I have the same problem in windows 8, without antivirus, minecraft 1.5.2 with original minecraft.jar in the default location. I have downloaded AMIDST several times, and always have the same problem.
I have same problem too in windows 7. already disable antivirus protection with minecraft 1.3.1. downloaded all AMIDST versions but nothing happen when i click the icon.
Not sure what to tell you, works fine here. I have noticed that when selecting a profile that contains an older version of Minecraft, it may not run properly. Since the new launcher now supports all versions of Minecraft back to indev (I think, haven't tried the really old ones yet) it may choke on some of them. Seems beta versions will make it pop up a dialog about an unsupported version and alpha versions just make it go away. Check your task manager and see if javaw.exe is running after you click the icon. Also, it now doesn't start up to the main window, but pops up a small-ish dialog that asks you what profile to use, maybe you're just missing it?
So, I've got some semi-good news. It looks like I might be able to bypass some of the issues with deobfuscation... which might MAYBE mean snapshot support. It's not clear yet.
EDIT:
So, while it does increase load times, (for me it takes roughly 0.5-1.0 seconds longer to load) it should now detect versions much better... well... in theory. But the new system is MUCH MUCH less messy.
Second edit:
The new system also opens the possibility of more complicated things like block data for specific minecraft releases.
Sounds cool, it would be nice, if when you open a world, AMIDST could detect the version of Minecraft last used to run it, and search the .minecraft/versions folder for the correct jar to use for the terrain generator.

Well, it already uses .minecraft/versions when profiles are detected. I just haven't set up a last-profile detection system yet. You should put it on the bitbucket issue tracker as a suggestion.
Edit:
Just confirmed... the new changes will allow support for 1.8.1. Theoretically you could do an older version than that, but it would require a manual override... which I may support later on.
Same here but i test it again with he debug File and the programm searchs the file launcher_profile.json in AppData\Roaming\.minecraft
But i can't read so fast as the window closed so it is a bad debug if i don't get a log file :/
Edit:
ok found out you have to update to 1.6.2 btw. you have to download the new launcher fir minecraft and then update to 1.6.2 ...
if you don't make this you don't have this file because my minecraft is 1.5.2 and i don't have it
You should make a mark in the first post so user know this...
Edit 2: Ok after i select a profile it makes again errors but to fast to read :/
So there was a bug... well.. it was more that something said "false" instead of "true" that prevented you from loading without the new launcher. This will be fixed in the next update. I'll try to give you a dev build whenever I get up in the "morning" there's a few minor changes I need to make before releasing it.

OK, cool, I hadn't realized that, or even tested it much but thinking back a bit, going much further past the late alphas would be pointless because they didn't have biomes back then. When I started playing, somewhere around alpha 1.1.2, it was just "summer" and "winter" for the whole world, so maybe pop up a dialog that the chosen file was run on a version that didn't have biomes?

Wait, how do I work this? I select a profile and nothing happens.
EDIT: Bug! If minecraft save location isnt in appdata\roaming it breaks. My minecraft file is at C:\users\myname\desktop\game\minecraft\mc162 I used a profile with data in roaming and it worked fine.

Yup, sorry about that. It'll be fixed in the next update... It's not even that big of a bug to fix.
Awesome program! Really useful information without having to load up the world and walk around.
One question though: It shows biomes perfectly fine, but would it be at all possible to use the heightmap from the world generator to show a rough topographic or relief-shaded map? This would be very useful for scoping out cliffs, mountains and other geographical features.
I'm using it a lot for figuring out good large biomes seeds, which is often very difficult with default minecraft.
A feature that I'd like to see is an ability to see the player spawnpoint and/or the spawn chunks on the map, as a lot of what I look for in a seed is locations near the spawn and it's a bit harder when you've got to approximate where the spawn is. This tool is definitely a favorite and better than trying to generate each seed in MC.
[I'd also like to see an "official" tool for searching seeds for special qualifications, like WitchHut@spawn, Village@spawn, Structure@spawn, etc.]

The first bit about finding a spawn, that's pretty doable, except I won't be able to test for things like invalid spawn locations or spawn location fuzz. You'd still get a rough idea.
As for the last bit-- there was originally plans (and almost a complete implementation) for AMIDST to be entirely scriptable, but the amount of time that went into it wasn't really worth it. I may add something like that in the future.

Biome data is actually very separate from block data. While I've had test builds that do what you describe, it's VERY slow, buggy, and version dependant. With the release of an official modding API, I may be able to put something together, but until then it's better for me to focus on more realistic features.
So I was using this and it works amazing, if I want to find temples and just about anything else really. But the coords for a village are never right. I've tried 3 so far and they aren't there.
The coords for villages aren't/haven't been right, and with this version, it's crashed every time I try to load an existing world. New worlds are fine, but ones I've all ready played in crash.

I'll submit it to the bug tracker for you. Can you give me any more details?
Usually it's marked with a player icon. Lately, it's been Steve's face, it used to be the skin of the player, but that got dropped a while back, or it's not working for me. It was nice to open the Mindcrack server map and see all the famous youtube personalities in their own in game faces scattered around. Not sure what happened to that feature.

Villages are tricky, it seems Minecraft is really picky about where to put them. But with a little effort on your part, you can pretty much figure out where the valid ones are. For example, if a village marker is very close to a river in AMIDST, it probably won't be there in game. The safe ones are usually the ones in deserts and plains biomes.

That feature -should- be working... is it not at all?
P.S.
Sorry about the lack of a video tutorial. They're painfully awkward to record.

Testing here, I just get Steve's face, not my skin, for the couple worlds I have on this machine. It just lists "Player" and not my Minecraft name as well. Pretty sure the Mojang skins server is up, I can't test here as I'm at work. I also don't have a multiplayer world to try either, I will test tonight at home. But last few times I've tried it, I only get Steve. I don't recall what I got on the Mindcrack world, it's been a while since I opened that one.
Thanks so much for your hard work in creating and maintaining this excellent program! It's blazingly fast, which is essential for seed hunting. The new version is even better: random numbers when no seed is entered is perfect for seed hunting, as is copying the seed value directly using control C.
One question: how robust is the pseudorandom number generation? Is it the same as vanilla?
Doing some testing on the player location problem. On a single player world, it shows the player location as Steve's face. Going to the player dialog shows just "player" not the name. Funny thing, it takes a few clicks of the cancel or OK button for it to go away and show the player.
On a multiplayer world, it doesn't show any player icons. The goto player dialog only shows "player" at 0,0 and not all the other players that are on the map. AMIDST version 2.1 showed all the player icons in their skin and the goto player dialog listed them all by name.

hey i used it of my creative flatland as a test which is completely sand, and it showed a whole island? whats going on? and how do you use it on multiplayer?
AMIDST reads the seed and uses the terrain generator code to create a biome map based on that information. What you actually have in the map could be completely different. If it's a flat map, obviously the game ignores biome info and creates a map with a single biome. At least I guess that's how it works. For a multiplayer map, all you need is the seed.
