@Chase:
The revert after /reload is normal, as /setgroup does not save the config automatically. I don't know whether it's a good idea to force-save the files after each /setgroup... But at the moment I can say that this is more or less intended.
But its strange concerning server restart, as the save should be executed... also the needed player relogin should not be neccessary... I'll look into it.. By the way, are you restarting the server properly by using the restart command, or do you use the stop command? This might help finding the problem. If you turn your server off by force (CTRL-C in the server console) then it's not surprising at all.. This is not a proper way to shut down the server.
EDIT: I can not verify your problem regarding server stop/restart - It works fine for me.. The problem with the required relogin should be fixed with the next release (first I'll look at some other bugs..)
As for my restarts, I am using the automated restart every 12 hours using SimpleServer.

Under 64bit Windows, I suggest you download the 64bit version of Java, for 2 reasons, you can allocate more than 1.7ish Gb of RAM to the server, second, it will run cleaner within the Host OS (Windows)
secondly, when installing Java it should automatically add itself to the PATH, so you havn't installed Java correctly anyway. After you install the 64bit JRE, see if the default launch.bat works :biggrin.gif:
EDIT: Oh and one other thing, DON'T uninstall the 32bit java, some applications don't work with the 64bit version. You can have both side-by-side. One installs to "Program Files(x86)" and the other to "Program Files".
You still want to manually add the 32bit java to the System PATH.

Hello. I recently had a computer crash, which ended up corrupting my world a bit. When simple server starts, it says:
"Chunk file at -14,13 is in the wrong location; relocating. <Expected -14,13, got -5,18>"
Does anyone know if the "chunk file at -14,13" is the long/lat of the bad chunk, or is this something else? I went there in the world and everything seemed fine! :smile.gif:
My only problem is that if one specific player now logs on, the server crashes. I guess he is in the bad chunk?
I know this is not really a simple server question, except for the part about interpreting the consol output regarding the bad chunk...

It can relocate it properly, but there's a chance that it's preventing -5,18 from working properly.
I'm sure there's a way to repair your world, but if you've been using SimpleServer's backup feature (I hope you have, in fact it's the reason I use SimpleServer myself) you can probably restore from the last backup before that crash.

Thanks for the response, Covarr. Unfortunately, the crash happened while I was away for a couple of days and the backup has been overwritten with copies of the post-crash world... Arg.
i've set up the server properly from what i can see, but whenever i try one of the server commands within the simpleserver folder (like /motd) in the console it just says that 'Fortune188 tried an unknown command /motd' I've tried dling the posts in the previous comments (not the OP), but it just tells me that the .jar is not recognizable. Does it have dependencies for java 1.6? Im runing Mac OSX 10.4.11. Any suggestions?

1. Are you using the latest version? (see first post of this thread for the download link)
2. Is useSlashes enabled in your simpleserver.properties? Otherwise the command prefix is ! instead of /
3. Are you starting your server with the launch.sh? If you just start minecraft_server.jar, SimpleServer is not running.
4. You are issuing the commands ingame, right? Because on the server console only a couple of them work.
Ok thank you, it was the useSlashes toggle that got me. I didnt see that at first in my initial scan of the properties file.
Thank you do much for this... I can finally stop my server! XD
Previously for the last few months I've been unable to do anything but restart in-game, so this is a HUGE help. Damn fine work!
Edit: Looks like I spoke too soon... this breaks half of my plugins on bukkit 766 (latest recommended build)
...thank god I only put this on my test server.
I did not change the configuration, but perhaps I need to... the changelog and installation instructions mention nothing as far as I can tell about updating from 7.1 though... so please give some guidance or illumination as to what is going wrong! I see zero errors, plugins seem to startup correctly, but then I can't right click sign shops, use /money, or most other commands. I can for some reason do things like /time day, but the rest seems completely borked.
edit2: Yeah, I've tried tweaking settings without success for about a half an hour now, and I just don't have time to keep this up... if someone has a solution please share it, otherwise this update is useless to me :/ It did look really nice, though... Perhaps it simply doesn't have bukkit support?
Sounds good, hopefully gonna get it soon
I got 1 question tho
Could you add a /setspawn and /spawn command? one thing that annoys me about the standard server is that you cant change the spawn point for players who havent sleped in your server before! i want to make an epic creature spitting out lava at the spawn, with a minecart track coming out its mouth and missing the lava :biggrin.gif:

After following the instructions on the wiki about incorporating Bukkit, whenever i try to connect, it stays at the loading screen and terminal says:
It tells me that bukkit is running alongside Simple Server. I can run the server without bukkit normally. But i cant run a bukkit server because it gives me the same problem. Running Mac osx 10.4.11. There are no plugins in the plugin folder. Can anyone help?

If a group is not specified in the group attribute, and has permission to use the !give or !giveplayer command, then they will have unrestricted access to the command.
For example. Group 1 are donators, they have access to the !give command as a reward for donating, but to prevent them from giving themselves diamond blocks, I would add the following entry, nested within the <permissions> and <give> elements:
Yes yes yes! This is exactly what I've been wanting too! I've been looking into to adding this myself, but after pouring over the source code for a couple days, I have to admit an early defeat, I just don't "get" Java.
i have read the FAQ and everything. im trying to make myself a admin in my own server but nothing works! i have read the FAQ guide but still nothing bellow is what my permission file looks like.
I tried downloading the first post, but when i mount it, it says 'not recognizable'. Most likely because of a dependency on a version of Java my computer cant update to. I've tried launching it in terminal, same story.
How could i change the dependency list? I remember seeing something on youtube about changing Minecraft(app) dependency...
I've unzipped the SimpleServer.jar and poked around inside, found the Main.class but couldnt find any problem/solution.

@sadimusi it still doesnt work... what do i do.. my minecraft user is Minecraft_m4n could you put up a pic of what my permission page should look like if im trying to make myself "owner" of my own server? please it would really help
thanks,
Your configuration seems to be correct, why do you know you're not owner? If you can't build or destroy blocks around the spawnpoint it's expected behavior.
Hello. Thanks everyone for help keeping this great app running!
I have an idea: One thing that bothers me is that if you are an admin, then you cannot tell whether a chest has been locked by another player. I think that giving them a notification when they open or destroy it would be handy. You could go as far as implementing something like the 'OK' response for the !visit command, but that would probably be overkill. A simple notification would be fine.

Doesn't it say "Locked Chest" in the title of the inventory when you open it?
@sadimusi It appears that the /setgroup command is not properly adding the person to the .xml file, it seems to be 2 spaces short... And I'd like the /setgroup to save after use, since I use it as "authenticating" a new user from guest status to regular status.
And maybe coordinate-based teleporting (ex. warpcoord [player] <x,y,z>)
Ok. My mom shut down my computer when the server was running and it no longer works.
It was working fine before i left and i came back a few hours later and it was dun broke.
I redownloaded the 7.2-dev-4c78333 build and it doesnt work still. Redownloaded port map. No luck. Tried running a vanilla server. Nope. I just dont even know what happened.
