I'm finally done with my Worldpainter map, and I'm really satisfied with it.
I forgot to get the MCmap pic from it before I started building, so you can see what I've built so far, too
First, here is the MCmap picture, highly compressed, because the map is 6400x6400 block, so it's not exactly a small map, and the picture became 54,8 Mb large, too big to upload...
To make rivers, flowing lava and jungle, I had to edit the map in-game, because worldpainter can't make those, so here are some in-game picture of some of the beatiful places there is to see:
one of the rivers/ a little taste of the fjord in the middle of the map:
and here is the castle that I'm currently working on, it's a large castle, so it's going to take a while getting it done... I've been working on it for about 2 weeks on and off.
you can see here, that it's a very big castle, to get the whole thing, I had to install a mod, which allowed me to set the render distance to extreme with the Optifine HD mod (this render distance is used with most screen shots showed in this post)
the walkway to the gate
the castle harbour is located inside the caves, inspired by Solitude in Skyrim.
Tytus_of_Asfalt, kudos on the map, it turned out well. Have you considered cleaning up the ground cover materials? It'd just be to minimize noise, which isn't very easy on the eyes, and would really help the final product appear more planned than haphazard.
Kaioti, you're going to want more of a sea-buffer, otherwise, if you travel by sea, new chunks may be generated.
New images from Atlas. I'm open to comments, n'stuff.
A few more islands with refined terrain, definitely not finished anywhere yet. Haven't even touched Biomes, but I do know that there will be a large desert on the main island, and that the north most island will be completely snow covered. I actually had a few rivers put in, but they seem to have disappeared, along with all of the mountain work on the big one...hooray for not saving!
I do not know why this one is small.
The caldera is going to be fun on this one. It's a bit bigger than the spawn-bowl from the BETA 1.7 and older "gargamel" seed.
Can I get a copy of that map? Just the way it is now- I love it.

"I often think about that old metaphor, the one that says we are all islands on a wide sea. Especially these days, now that things are more difficult than before and the world appears to be harsher than we once imagined it to be. We are all like islands, the philosopher said. Perhaps it's true. Yet I cannot help but remember an older saying, scratched on a cave wall somewhere by a long-forgotten prophet: in the end, the sea will claim everything."
I made the first layout of the basic landscape in the adventure map "Secrets of the Paragon Island" with World Painter. A very handy tool indeed! The map is now released and here is the trailer so you can see at least a bit what I managed to do with the program (although the landscape is heavily adjusted with MCedit later)
Here's a map I've been working on for an hour or so, it's my first map and therefore was meant for a learning experience, I still didn't really get the hang of the biomes though and there are a few other things in which I can still get better, so until then I won't be making any overly large maps.
This is a 1024 x 1024 large map
This next Image shows the three very high cliffs at the bottom center of the map
Here you can see two of the three cliffs seen from the cliff nearest to the right of the map
This is the Island located on the top right of the map, seen from the south
These are the two flat islands to the east of the map, seen from the south
These are the three jungle islands to the west of the map, seen from the south
This image was taken while looking into the bay located to the south of the map
And for the final image, the lake in the center of the map, seen from the south
I hope you guys liked the map, but if you didn't, keep in mind that this is my first map and was meant to be a learning experience
This is my current map build for a custom server. It is suppose to be a lunar/alien landscape. I am just about to the point that I can start adding biomes and resource mapping. The current size of the map is 3584x3584 and well over 200mb at this stage. If you are interested in supporting me you can find it on planetminecraft just search for Mellavana. Once biomes and resources are set voxel sniper work will begin to bring finer detail to the map.
Hey people I don't really know.
I am currently working on the server Lorecraft, and am in need of a person who can create a custom map for me! I can't seem to get the hang of worldpainter. :/ Anyways, if you have good experience working with this and would like to help a server, contact me through Skype (Dezarith-Benb) and we can talk the map through.
EDIT: Also if you might post a few pictures of waht you've done so im not handing over control to some random Joe.
Work in Progress Menzoberranzan (no ceiling yet, haven't tested that in-editor).
Note that coloration is entirely from the overlayed image, which I left on for this screenshot because it makes seeing the terrain areas a bit easier.

The terrain looks great, and you've definitely managed to a believably cratered landscape. There are a few things you'll want to consider though, the first being that, lacking atmosphere/weather/water/wind there wouldn't be any other erosion, which would mean that, after initial formation of the asteroid/moon, only crater marks would change the surface, and only new crater marks would change old crater marks. The other thing, I see two huge majestic craters, partially cut-off by the edges of the map, which would mean that building, even just traveling, there would possibly generate normal terrain outside of that, which I'm guessing you do not want.

I'll send you a message through Skype, but if you see this first, you can find more about me by clicking the image/link in my signature. It just goes to a Facebook page, peruse the pictures, see if you like.

I'd be willing to distribute the map once the terrain and biomes map are done, but no sooner. You really do not want what is there so far, it is very unusable, has only 2 biomes, and would be 12,800x12,800 blocks worth of render, upload and download time.
I might put up Islands as I finish them, some of them.
New stuff from Atlas
Island names, although, I wont just be using Latin. I intend to mutila-...modify the words a slight amount, maybe just cutting parts off or adding ending consonants. Dunno.
Scale images of three maps, the in-progress Atlas, Daedenroc, Massivecraft's Jungle world, and Legacy, my old Minecraft Server. The 'quote' is just there to fill the space and be pointless otherwise, deal with it.
The river that will be running through one of the Jungle biomes on Atlas Prime.
Nearly finished mountains peaks capping out around 190, just need some touching up and ground cover adjustments.
This is going to be the smaller mountain range, with the other having peaks between 220-255.
Some of the better mountain rendering I've seen, although still stylized. You'd probably benefit from using the Dimension Properties to set the default ground cover and erasing (which is actually painting the the current default settings) with a ground cover tool, full round brush, full blast. On top of that, your tree-line ends at the base of the mountain, no doubt caused by the stone ground, but it'd be more immersive if that went about 1/3 the way up to the snow (with trees of course).
That little rendering program does some nice tricks, I haven't had a chance to render anything worth posting with it specifically yet.
Hey guys. I could use some help. I need a map for my new RP PvP fantasy server and I am not very good with World Painter. I know there are a lot of phenomenal maps and map creators and I would like some help from one. I'm looking for a map about 4000x4000 and I need about a 450x450 ocean in the middle where i will insert my spawn island that I have created. The map needs to be primarily water-based, with very big continents around it. Message me if you experienced with WorldPainter and would like to help me! Thanks(: You can also skype me at dezarith-benb.
I have been getting good results using BO2 objects to make rivers. The idea is to use overlapping BO2 objects to remove the ground to form a river bed and fill the lower part of the river bed with water. Since WorldPainter places them randomly, the bo2 objects don't hit some areas, and these blocks remain as obstacles. The technique is described in more detail in a post in the main WorldPainter forum (reply #3665 on June 15, 2012 in the forum "WORLDPAINTER -NEW MAP CREATOR/GENERATOR -WORK IN PROGRESS"). I encourage you try out the BO2 object included in that reply and let me know how it works.
