Could you put that world up for download?
PLEASE!!!
It's a custom map for a server... wouldn't be right to just let anyone download it. You can make similar stuff with World Painter with just a little practice. :smile.gif:
Here's some work I've done recently in World Painter. This group of continents spans 4000x4000 blocks, 43 square miles (or about 6.5 x 6.5 miles). Paint time was about 18 hours, though that also includes exporting the map several times for viewing in MCedit. Made for:Fantasycraft
So this is my first map. I call it Karthax. I don't really have any in game pictures yet since i can't seem to get a screen capture. I've read that just pushing F2 should create a screen capture. but that doesn't really seem to be doing it.

Wow... that really looks very cool. I have been playing with it but mine look NOTHING like that.

Thank you
It looks pretty much the way i wanted it. Though a bit smaller than I was thinking though. I still need a lot of practice with it to get the landforms i'm aiming for.

Whats the dimensions for the tiles? Im making a supercontinent with 50x50 made a lot of progress, but yours is pretty amazing. Dimensions?
That map was 32 x 32 tiles. It could have been bigger. I'm hoping to use the heightmap import function to create even larger areas and polish them up by hand. File size can get big pretty quick though.

Im working on a 50x50 super continent, just finished the desert and a few of the mountain ranges.
Here's an over view of the map I've been working off and on again since about Minecraft beta 1.8.
The map itself is about 1200 blocks wide and the same long.
I've creatively dubbed it "My Island". It's still a WIP, though I'm mostly done with the work in WorldPainter.
Next up is voxel sniper and finishing off the rivers, do some overhangs, and some minor touch-ups.
Then I'll probably do a bit in McEdit to add me some abandoned mines and villages.
I decided to set out recreating Middle Earth from Lord of the Rings. The map is about 5000x5000, but I might be wrong. About three hours of work so far, but all I've really worked on is Mordor (which I am still not done with).
The map at large so far:
Orodruin (Mt. Doom) and the lands of Mordor:
I might upload the map somewhere when I'm done with it.
Great work all around! Glad to see other people's work. It would be great to get a .world upload or a finished map upload of some of these.
Also, RedSyndicate, dear lord. You are one ambitious man (woman?)
Looking forward to what you turn out!
Thanks! I am nearing completion, and I will definitely upload the map once done.
I first need to work out some kinks in the biomes, as well as thin out the woods that don't need to be as dense as Mirkwood or Fangorn. It takes three hours to compile into a minecraft save.
Here's a few samples of what I've got so far:
The map:
Gap of Rohan:
Minas Tirith, Dead Marsh, Black Gates, Orodruin, Pelenor Fields, etc.
Panoramic shot of Minas Tirith to Minas Morgul.
The Lonely Mountain (Erebor), Long Lake, Dale, and Mirkwood
Plateau of Gorgoroth, in Mordor, viewed from above, and within:

and the Richat Structure:
from real world data. They aren't tweaked to be serious maps as they were just to test the method, but they are accurate, although not to scale.
wanna see how? check out the tutorial i made:

Good luck with the heightmap!

Tell me what you think!
Impressive. I'd love to see some in-game shots.
I created WorldPainter. For support, please visit the WorldPainter subreddit.
note: the biomes have not been reconfigured, so shrooms will NOT spawn in the mycelium, you have to change that using the biome brush

WorldPainter is awesome.

I'm definitively going to steal you that..
So simple! How in the humanity didn't I come up with this?
