@Applebloom Just FYI Spritecraft just picks the closest color to the original when choosing a material. So the reason you are seeing cactus green when you expect lime green is because cactus green is a closer match. And after you turn off cactus green, the reason you see wood is because... well it's still a closer match then lime green. The RGB values don't lie
Dithering "fixes" this because it's a little more sophisticated- instead of looking at only one pixel it considers the pixels around it and uses different colors to make it look more close to the original (this is both an over- AND under-simplification of dithering, for more info just google it- the algorithm is fairly simple).
It's possible there is some way to make it "look" better by weighting certain color values higher than others- I've read that humans are more sensitive to changes in green, for instance. So even though wood is actually a closer match than lime green, to our eyes it might look worse because the green value of lime green is closer to the original. Maybe I will play around with this is in a future release of Spritecraft.
@SkoGaming - It sounds like you have the "free" version (vs. the "full" version). Just go get the full version and you'll have the features you are missing.
Some troubleshooting tips for anyone who might be having problems:
Spritecraft Doesn't Run
You will need Java to run Spritecraft. You can get it here: http://www.java.com. Once you have java installed, you should just need to double-click the file to run it.
If Java is installed and the program doesn't run, you can try running it from the command line. Use your command line client to go to the directory where SpritecraftFull.jar is, and type: "java -jar Xmx512m SpritecraftFull.jar"
Memory Problems
Spritecraft should be able to handle massive images without running out of memory, but it may be forced to reduce the quality of the output image to do so. For example, if you are using the standard texture pack, each block is 16x16 pixels. If you run a 2048x2048 image through Spritecraft with no max height or width, the output would be 2048*2048*16*16*3 bytes; 3 GB total. Instead of trying to use 3 GB of memory, Spritecraft will reduce the quality of the output image.
If Spritecraft gives you an error that it has run out of memory, you can allow it to use a larger amount of memory when you run it. You'll have to run it via the command line like so: "java -jar Xmx1024m SpritecraftFull.jar". The "1024" indicates that java can use 1024 MB of memory. Use a larger number for more memory (for example, 2048 for 2 GB of memory). Allowing Spritecraft to use more memory can also increase the quality of the output image.
Feedback/Still Having Trouble
Please feel free to e-mail either myself ([email protected]) or K ([email protected]) if you are having problems or if you have any suggestions. The tool is still pretty new, but thus far we don't know of any major bugs, so feedback would be greatly appreciated.
I love this when i want big pictures, but is there a way i can get a 6 by 3 picture?
I'm importing large images into this, and when I turn them into a schematic, they're coming out vertical, is there a way to make the schematic flat?
I realize it's easy to fix in MCedit by rotating and flipping, but it the image is so large that rotating, then placing it down seems to crash it at times...
EDIT: Wait, disregard this comment, I think I figured it out.
this is a great tool! but i think you should have like a grid to make counting easier and to tell you which block and if you click on it, it should tell which row its on or and how many blocks in from the start of the row it is, but no rush though, take all the time you need, i just sometimes miscount ans have to fix a bunch of things

I can't get this program to open at all. I've done everything that people have recommended:
I am using Window's 7, and I am using my administrator account.
My version of Java is JRE7.
I downloaded the FULL version.
I selected Javaw.exe to launch
- No success
I've tried creating the .bat file as others suggested.
- No success
I've tried running it from the command prompt.
- No success
Nothing happens. The screen sometimes flashes, but no SpriteCraft prompts come up.
Why isn't this working?! What am I missing or what could be wrong?!
Sorry to say that, but you´r tool is not legit, in the terms of minecraft.net:
http://www.minecraft.net/terms
It means that you´re not allowed to sell it for a amount of x-money.
Anyway, it´s awesome.
So, even if it is not legit, I don´t think Mojang has something against it.
You're not allowed to sell a tool. But you can ask for DONATIONS for it while offering the tool for FREE. So he isn't going against the terms at all.
I can open it perfectly fine, but when I press either the "options" or "Create Minecraft Blueprint" buttons, the program freezes and I am unable to use it. If it helps, my current OS is Windows 7 64-bit. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated from anybody.
This program has been incredibly useful to me. Are you planning on updating it anytime soon to add the new block types?
Some other suggestions:
- since logs can be placed sideways in 1.3, have the log top and side textures as separate options
- have an option to add a grid to the final blueprint for when building by hand
- might be difficult to implement, but I've seen pixel art in screenshots and on youtube and such that uses layers and the shadows generated by them to get more colors, would there be a way to add that in? You could have it as a third view option; top view, side view, layered side view.

There's a new version up. This might help some of those who've had trouble running it- we now have everything in a zip file, so for most people you can just extract the contents of the zip file, double click on "SpritecraftFull.jar", and you are good to go. If that doesn't work and you are on Windows, try double-clicking "RunSpritecraftFull.bat".
The new version has emerald now, and a couple of small UI enhancements, but nothing major.

I was thinking of having a mouse-over that would just tell you the x/y of the block you were over. Or maybe we'll just draw a grid... I'm still not sure what the best approach is.

It seems like most people are having problems with either
1) Not unzipping the files before trying to run them
2) Having an older version of java

Hey everybody I am on a Mac 10.5.8 and I cant launch Spritecraft but It used to work before. is it because of my version of Java? I am updating right now to see if it works but please try to make it work a bit better if updating Java doesnt worknope still doesnt work

You need a dash in front of the Xmx... part:
java -jar -Xmx512m SpritecraftFull.jar

Why this?
Also, the .bat file just closes right after I open it....
http://www.planetminecraft.com/project/zombiearchery-11-egyptian-temple/
com.diamondpants.spritecraft.frotend.mainframe. program will exit
thats the jar file and the bat just closes
