I've built a large 70X70 map, and when I am trying to export it, it gives me an memory error at around 90%. I am running it on 4GB of RAM at the moment.
Can anyone help?
if your getting the error when it starts caculating light then just make a new map in mcedit and copy the map you made in worldpainter to the mcedit map with MCEdit
Any chance of a response to my comments on the previous page?
It shows great potiential for uses for us in later Ultra Hardcore seasons but there are the issues I mentioned.
Currently I am creating a landscape and then slicing the top off and dropping onto an existing landmass in MCe. This gives more problems than there are words for.
Taiine already answered you, did you miss her answer? Everything she says is correct (and can be found many times over in this thread). In short: you are right that no dungeons, villages, strongholds, abandoned mineshafts or ravines are generated. Those are generated by Minecraft when it generates the landscape and there is no way for WorldPainter to induce Minecraft to generate them in chunks that have been pregenerated by WorldPainter.
At some point in the future I will add support to WorldPainter for generating various structures, but they will be different than the standard Minecraft structures.
In regard to the caverns breaking the surface: how else should it look?
And about the typo: no I didn't know about that yet, so thanks for pointing it out!

70x70 is quite large, it would not surprise me if it needs more than 4 GB, so give it more memory (if you have it). Check out this page for instructions.
If it crashed during the lighting calculation phase (which it must have if it was around 90%), the map will have been fully rendered. It will just be dark. You can try evoandroidevo's trick of loading the map into MCEdit first if you want, to let MCEdit finish the lighting calculations. I don't have experience with that, so I can't tell you whether that will work or whether MCEdit supports such a large map.
This is a pretty nice little program. Though I wonder, is there a way to remove trees?
Not with WorldPainter. You could probably do it pretty quickly with something like WorldEdit though, by replacing all wood and leaf blocks in a particular area with air blocks.
I just released version 0.6.11 of WorldPainter, which has a few new features:
Configure altitude to terrain type mapping!
This is the mapping used to determine which terrain to paint when right-clicking with a Terrain tool selected, or when using the Mountain tool. A new tab called Default Terrain has been added to the dimension properties editor (Edit -> Dimension properties... or Ctrl+P) which allows you to change the levels and default terrain types and add or remove terrain types. The same tab (called Terrain) is also available when importing a height map.
Just to be clear: this mapping has always existed, but it was set to a default and you could not edit it. Now you can!
Global operations!
Accessible as Edit -> Global operations... or by pressing Ctrl+G, this new screen allows you to quickly fill the entire world with a particular terrain type, layer or biome, and remove or invert layers.
Create the End dimension!
Support has been added for creating the End dimension with WorldPainter, just like you could already create the Nether! Select Edit -> Add End... to add an End dimension to the world, and select View -> View End to select it for editing for worlds which already have an End. Some changes to the defaults of the Nether dimension have also been made.
The update will be offered automatically when you next start WorldPainter, or you can download it from the first post. Enjoy, and let me know if you encounter any problems!
but also have resources turned off for speed havent try with them on
Reports are that it needs more memory when you turn on resources, so I don't think that will help. I'm looking into it, but it's a very strange phenomenon which I'm afraid is going to be extremely hard to debug...
hey, when I try to import a map (I cannot tell how much by how much it is but its 168mb) All I get is the light blue screen inside the worldpainter program screen, I can do everything else but just my landscape isnt showing up.
And you're not getting an error message? That is very strange. If this is only with one world? Can you import other worlds successfully?
It's possible you're running out of memory, although you really should get an error message if that happens. Have you tried increasing the memory allocation for WorldPainter? If that doesn't help, please send me this map you're trying to import so I can take a look at it.
Please redownload if you installed 0.6.9 or 0.6.10!
There was a bug in versions 0.6.9 and 0.6.10 which disabled the auto update checking. If you upgraded to (or installed) either of these versions you will have to manually upgrade to 0.6.11 by downloading the installer from the first post. Please do so in order to reenable update checking!
If you are still on 0.6.8 or earlier you don't have to do anything, you will automatically be offered the upgrade to 0.6.11, which does not have the bug.
I think pressure sensitivity from my bamboo tablet would be pretty epic....
Like the harder you press the deeper the brush goes.
Pressure sensitivity is already supported! It works exactly like you said, the pressure controls the intensity with which the brush is applied. Note that it is relative to the sensitivity slider, so to get the full range you should set it all the way to the right. You can also use the eraser end of the pen to perform the inverse operation, and use the buttons on the pen to increase and decrease the brush size.
Alright, well perhaps the map is corrupted or something. If you upload it to a file sharing site and send me the link (in a private message if you so desire) I'll take a look.
hey, ive been trying to build up the size of the world by creating new worlds in worldpainter building it up from 5 to 45
at 45 I got the same problem as with the other world I wanted to load... It says creating new world, then it is done loading and I am stuck with this light blue screen... I can still do everything else still, No errors, No signs of anything but the green bar down right which keeps going between 2 and 8 stripes
Hmmm. Well that pattern certainly seems to indicate that the problem is a lack of memory, although I can't explain why you don't get an error message. Perhaps the problem is that you don't have enough video RAM. What kind of video card do you have, and how much RAM does it have? You might try installing the latest video driver for your card from the manufacturer's website.
Also, are you sure that increasing the memory worked? How much did you give it, and what does the tooltip say then you hover your mouse over the memory monitor in WorldPainter's status bar?
Hey, I created a few worlds recently... There is no sign of peaceful mobs, only hostile ones when I turn up the difficulty. Did I mess something up?
P.S.: I'm loving the terrain features, so far. I plan on making a Skyrim-esque map, I've already tried it out on a small map. Surrounding it with mountains made with the height tool looks great!
Also, on my trackpad, using the "scrollwheel" (for me, it means moving my finger up or down the left edge of the trackpad) zooms in. I can't change the brush size.
And yet another edit - last night, I tried to give the program more memory. My computer won't let me save any changes to the .vmoptions file, it gives an error. I can only open it in notepad, if that matters. I'll get the error text in a bit - I'm making another world :]
I gave it 2 gb but I dont have a feeling it worked or that I did something wrong (yes I removed the #)
and what do you mean by "tooltip"
The memory monitor is the last control in the status bar (at the bottom of the window) of WorldPainter. It looks like a progress bar. If you hold your mouse still over it a text should pop up. What does it say?
Thanks for the correction, but you know you can edit your posts, right? That's a pretty cheap, older card, but it's not that ancient that it seems likely to be the cause of this problem. Have you tried updating the driver to the latest version from the manufacturer's site?
I don't know if this has been mentioned, but how do I add jungles and swamps to my map?
You can let Minecraft generate them, by setting the biome scheme to custom biomes, painting Jungle or Swampland biomes with the Biomes tool where you want them and then painting that area with the Populate layer.
Also, on my trackpad, using the "scrollwheel" (for me, it means moving my finger up or down the left edge of the trackpad) zooms in. I can't change the brush size.
WorldPainter only zooms in or out when the Ctrl key is held. If it zooms when you use the trackpad, your trackpad driver must be simulating the Ctrl key. See if you can change the configuration and tell it to send raw scrollwheel events.
Alternatively you can also change the size of the brush by pressing - and +, on the numeric keypad or on the main keyboard.
Select one of the border options on the Export screen.
(Seriously?!)

I can't tell from here. Mobs only spawn in the right biomes and on the right terrain. Don't ask me what the rules are exactly.

I guess getting the terrain right makes it more of a challenge... But that means more creativity. I'll be working with the biomes more often
Also, the "-" and "+" work great, but I have to press shift to enlarge it... my laptop is strange...
Thanks for the help, though. I already enjoy this.
Hey, I'd just like to say that this tool and its' creator are amazing... Almost every time I open the program it tells me there's an update with cool new features. KEEP IT UP.

I guess it's an extremely underrated gift after all the work you must have put into it, but +1.
By the way, I think this must be one of the best works made with worldpainter:
