What IS canary?
- Canary is the continuation of hMod, the popular administrative mod made by hey0, but uses the hMod source code, from the unofficial 137 build made by Meaglin.
- We like to see ourselves as an alternative to Bukkit if you didn't move on and stuck with hMod like I, and a few others, have. You can choose to use us, or not. The choice is yours.
Will we need to update/port plugins over?
- No. If a plugin works with hMod builds 135-137, then they have a high chance of working. We only have minor tweaks in the code and plan to make sure it works well for everyone. After Minecraft updates though, you will need an update. We, as the dev team, will try to update ASAP during Minecraft updates to make it easier for everyone.
For the time being, since Meaglin used some of Bukkit's code for optimization, we aren't legallaly allowed to make releases, but we are able to make builds available for download, if you'd like to try us out.

Crow Builds?
Crow builds are the nightly testing builds we use to test for minecraft updates, or new features. They are usually incomplete code and not recommended unless you want to test to help us out. They are also available during Minecraft updates once the team has updated the code to work.
Where can I download plugins?
Recently, we've set up a plugin repository by the name Plugin Nest located at http://canarymod.net/nest and contains plugins sorted by category and soon, build version they are compatible with.
If you use Canary and want to help make it more known, then please copy one of these codes into your signature.

will it have fixes with plugins like realms or cuboid that use sanctuary to prevent monsters from spawning? it doesnt work and aparently as i was told it was something to do with a bug in hmod

The sanctuaries work on my server, I found out you have to change the whole server to pvp, and sanctuaries should work. and then in-game type /cmod globaltoggle pvp and once it says specific areas you will have the whole map as protected form pvp but able to pvp in specific areas, like what i have on my server.

Cuboid sanctuary works great on my server, you'll never be able to spawn any inside a sanctuary either. And iI have to say i do love cuboid so much more than iZones on Bukkit :smile.gif:
i use realms, because its polygonal and easier to set up a zone, sanctuary doesnt work in cuboiid either though. server spawns them whether spawning is disabled in a sanctuary or not

Sorry, may be I didn't use clear enough words, but I am not talking about Bukkit. There's a special reason I don't use Bukkit to drive my server.
I ment meaglin's hmod and Canary as I said 'two continuations of hMod'. As I did not see meaglin on your team list, I concluded there will be two different hmods + Bukkit in the future.

This sounds a little like 'meaglin will not continue his work on hmod'. As I didn't read something like this anywhere until now, this is the reason for my confusion.
Well Meaglin has told me that he wants to start working on his own mod that he has started. I don't know the full features of it yet, but I do know that updating hMod each update will take up more of his time, so I made hMod so he can lift away from the stress and go on with his life, if he chooses to.

It's all up to whoever wants to continue the plugin on Canary, but 90% of plugins, as stated before, will work with Canary if the said plugins worked on hMod 135+ at least.
Why rename it btw? would be easier to keep the old name, and use the old forums, everyone knows about the old forum, .. and what is the difference between this and the old hmod 137? any code changes that can break plugins?

Renaming: To take the load off hey0 so he can go about his business.
Old forums: same thing, so hey0 doesn't have to keep hosting the mod and spending his money on it.
Differences: None yet, but a few features are being added such as simple protection, chest protection, custom server messages, such as in a properties file you'll be able to put in your own banned message, and a repo with a way to instantly install a plugin through console without having to download, put into plugins folder, yada yada and it'll do it itself. The options for protections and chest protection will be completely toggleable if someone wants to use a plugin through the API for their own version, such as LWC or WorldEdit. We're also trying out best to keep the API safe so plugins wont break too often as well.
Also, Meaglin has mentioned to me that he would like to work on his own mod instead of having to update hMod, but will continue to update hMod until we have a steady team updating each update.
Yay canary is finally out. I just have one question. This happened to me on meaglin's 137 as well. When my friend has tryed to join my server it always says timed out. i have port-forwarded properly and everything. Please help me out.

When I launch the server, it says minecraft_servero.jar does not much the checksum..
Where should I get the new servero.jar?
