I'm a developer at Bukkit. What can Canary offer in terms of GUI interface and easy understanding code? I'm not criticizing I'm just asking questions. Thanks.
I think the same could be asked for Bukkit. I had used bukkit since it came out until your team decided to drop the ball on the 1.9.5 update. I have NEVER seen any GUI for it at all, and installing it and getting it to run on a remote server was always a pain in the ass. I have also grown really tired of the elitist attitude your team has displayed towards other modders. I refuse to use bukkit anymore for these reasons and many others, and would rather use Canary any day.

I honestly have no real comment on the GUI interface, as we haven't touched that aspect so whatever is in the default Minecraft is basically what you'll have. As for easy understanding of the code, there are parts that are actually quite simple for java beginners to use to make plugins, but I'll admit that there are some downsides to the coding structure as it uses the older hMod code which is actually a little unstable. However, we are in the process of doing a complete recode that will simplify our API and our coding structure, one to increase overall performance, two to increase our small API into a much larger source for plugins to develop upon with an easy to update to interface from old plugins to the new code, and three to be as simple as before, but maybe even simpler.
Ah I remember the great old days of hmod, even when bukkit was first released I fully supported hmod untill people started to develop some really fantastic plugins and wiped hmod from the board.
I really want to see this get up, but with bukkit's empire founded on a certain set of fancy plugins, I cant see something like this overcome it. Its just that I dont see why someone would chose a hmod revival over it, due to the simple and dreadful fact that server owners like to use "cookie cutter" designs and outfit their servers with the same plugins/etc. If I am mistaken on your goals for this wrapper, enlighten me.
I put my support to this in hopes for a wrapper that can compete with bukkit.
The only reason bukkit has a larger number of members is popularity. If bukkit was made after Canary and all hMod users went to Canary at the start, it would be more popular. We'd have more devs making awesome stuff.
Most people don't know about Canary.
The only features bukkit has over Canary, in my opinion, is multiworld and spout. I don't think multiworld is needed and I don't like the idea of anything client-side (spout).
I think if CanaryMod could find a way to get better known, the ease of use would pull people in, because it's so much simpler.
I wouldn't say it's fair to compare the two things,
since CanaryMod is a Vanilla server mod and Bukkit is a completely new software altogether.
Anyway, CanaryMod for 1.1.0 was released quite a few days ago and no one has bumped it, so...
*Bump.*
The Canary Plugin Nest has been finished and set up. It's a localized repository for all CanaryMod plugins. Located here: http://canarymod.net/nest it contains a link through the forums for easier control of your plugins. Enjoy!
Hmm, I fail to compile the source, any tips?
I followed the readme precisly.
Make sure you're using the build.xml and ant building, also we don't commit to the master branch unless it's a Canary build, so use our crow branch as it has the most up-to-date code

Have you not heard that spout is moving away from bukkit? Spout is working on their own custom game engine that is independant of bukkit and even minecraft itself. On top of that, they are thinking of canary and are working on a bukkit-canary-modloader-spout bridge to gat all types of plugins/mods to work together nicely. I'm sorry if I sound like I'm advertising Spout, I just like people to know the facts.
P.S. I felt a little insulted when you said that you didn't like client stuff as 90% of my time on minecraft was in singleplayer.
P.P.S. Sorry for necro-replying, I often don't notice when the posts are really old.

I help out when I can.
