Upon execution of the program I receive "Eihort.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." and the program refuses to start. What might be causing this? I rarely encounter this type of problem while using ANY application.

Just tried the 64-bit version on Ubuntu.
It consistently freezes my system to the point only the magic SysRq key will solve it, right upon trying to render a world.
The 32-bit version running on 32-bit Ubuntu (on different hardware) will freeze and not work at all, but at least the system will stay responsive. Checking with htop reveals it's not consuming too much resources – not more than Firefox anyway.
