OK I came here looking for a tool that does EXACTLY what this one is supposed to do, but I can't get it to work.
I've done these steps:
- Downloaded the 1.7 vanilla server zip.
- Extracted the zip file somewhere
- Ran MLG_Initial_Setup_Windows.cmd (I'm using windows 7)
- Got a bunch of text output that I didn't have time to read.
- After it finished, I looked for the 'Run_MLG' file as per the instructions, but I can't find it?
Overviewer is going too slow to render my 2500x2500 map. Is there a way to speed it up/anything faster?
No, and "yes".
The first initial render of Overview is painfully slow. You have to just deal with it, or use something else.
The only way to make it faster is to use make sure it is properly set up using as many processor cores as you have.
(Oh, and there is a little trick I've used in the past - dont know if it still works:)
If you have multiple computers networked together, you can set up overviewer in a shared folder - then have multiple computers work on it at the same time. Unfortunately they may be some "collisions" where 2 computers are trying to do the same section at the same time, so after all the computers are done, run it once more on one computer to fix them and make the final map.
this exploits the cache feature of overviewer, and only needs to be done the first time, as then the map is already all cached. after this, only the changed chunks will get updated.
make sure all the computers have the same version of overviewer and you use the same settings.
just wait till you've rendered a 50,000 x 50,000 map in overviewer! the initial render takes DAYS!

I'll add a pause in the initial setup script. I wonder why it didnt work for you. you were connected to the net right?
Oops! I had an older version of the windows script in the release.
A new version has been uploaded.
you can change it manually by editing the script:
Original with the error: (It has "MLG_Update_Files_(Windows).txt" instead of "MLG_Update_Files_Windows.txt")

I've made a lot of progress with 1.7.1 last night and today!
Still a lot more to do!
I've perfected the the perfect squares code, and with it I've perfected region filling.
stay tuned for more info!

If those mods are server mods, then yes. MLG works with all server mods (Multiworld mods may not generate, though), and any version of the Minecraft Server!
The link for Mystcraft says it works for servers, so it should work.

Hi, I frogot to answer: I said
Your program gets problems, if there is a "+" in the path it should run from.
Just wanted to say, easy to solve, but hard to detect.

is it possible to get a bedrock boarder around your maps with your MLg ?. i took a look at buiildawall but i cant get it to work on my server :/
anyone know of a editor that i can use via command line to get this done ?
not with MLG. (At least not yet. With 12w37a / 1.4, you can set a superflat world with options, and then you can set it to be all bedrock, then with the currently unfinished MLG 1.7.1 (the current 1.7.0 has a slight bug that would affect this), you could set your world to be 24 blocks wider, and generate a chunk sized border of bedrock. - this is just theoretical, but possible without mods.)
right this minute, there are probably mods, and bukkit plugins that can do it, but i don't know what they are.

I'm going to push out 1.7.1 fairly soon, and 2.0 is getting much closer.
Regarding 2.0, the screenshot a few posts ago was made in SWT, but I've decided to make it in Swing instead (due to external libraries with SWT). I'm currently working on making the GUI look nice, but it will look a bit different than previously posted.
My goal is to have 2.0 released before MLG's 2 year anniversary (November 7th)

It would be nice to just specify the world in which should be generated by name. If none was supplied then use the default world specified in the server.properties file as you are doing now.

I hear ya, but currently its impossible without a bukkit plugin. I once tried to make one, but it kept crashing the server.
there are bukkit plugins that do work, and you should use those for multiworld worlds

I've hopped around a few pages of this topic and I can't figure this one out:
I'm trying to use this to expand my single player map. I switched it over to be my server map, I ran the program from the server's directory, it says it output just fine with no errors but... nothing? I'm left with an unchanged world file. The world's name is correct, I ran this both through Run_MLG and a manual command line, but it's the same each time.

win7 Ultimate 64-bit
Assumptions:
you have both 64 and 32 bit Java installed.
you ran the initial setup (with no errors displayed)
you copied your world folder into the MLG folder, and changed your world folder to "world", and left everything else the same.
lets say you choose to expand to 1000x1000.
does it loop 9 times after the initial check? (or does it fail somewhere?)
are those 9 loops practically instantaneous?
do you get a message saying that a warning was found?

I have both versions of java, yeah.
I did just copy the folder and rename it, but it still ran and there's no other worlds it could be affecting. The one I'm trying to expand is literally the only one currently on my HDD. It also didn't loop or return any errors. It appears to run normally and then I'm left with the same world afterwards.

Should I just remove Java 32?
don't remove java 32.
ok, if it didn't loop, then its failing at the initial launch for some reason.
try:
java -jar MinecraftLandGenerator.jar 1000 1000 -w
Or:
java -jar MinecraftLandGenerator.jar 1000 1000 -a
and see if one of those works for you.
if you still have problems, could you post the last 20-30 lines of your server.log file, as that could be helpful

1. Just to clarify, this will run with mods that add ores like IC2 and Redpower.

(if you are using an offset, or other flags, it will look something like this:)
of course, if when using mods, you still run into problems, change the "-w" into "-a" to run in Alternate (Compatibility) Mode.
