I'm currently generating a 200x200(40000 chunk) map. It's going slow, but I'm handling it on a separate computer. I may take a nap as well. A few hours should help pass the waiting time.
I'm currently at around 7% at the 30 minute mark. If it continues at this pace, it won't be finished for another 6.5-7 hours. That's slightly depressing, but hopefully it will be worth it.
I'll, of course, report back with a subtle taste of my experiences with the world, and opinions I may want to share on it. With the overwhelmingly positive reviews it's getting, it should be quite enjoyable.
I figured 200 would be a decent size though. Each chunk, as far as my small investigation went, is 16x16x128 blocks. Meaning that my generated map will be 3200 blocks to a side, or have a surface area of 10.24 million blocks^2, and a volume of 1.31072 billion blocks^3. I felt that would be sufficient for me. =P Especially considering I tend to lose interest in things rather quickly.
I shall dub this world the "Endless Sands", to set up the mood. EDIT:
Yes, I feel that it's not generating the world at a consistent rate, as at only 40 min(10 min since it was at 7.3%) it's progressed another 2.4-2.5%. Either will, will report back when I have a chance to play around in the world.
Made a small test world to check it out, and I won't give away some of the features to the people that are thinking about using this, but it's literally breath taking. If a customizable version of this were worked into the official game, I would cry tears of bliss. Generating a larger map now to play. Thanks. :biggrin.gif:
This thing is EPIC. Someone needs to make a public server with this...
Also, whenever I start a new world, the mobs that spawn in the dungeons set off a ton of the traps. I don't think there's much anyone can do about this, but I figured you might want to know.
Oh, and when I tried to create a 64x64 world, it crashed. Does anyone know why?
On that note, I ended up spending like 9 hours generating the 200x200 map. It then refused to finish "compressing" it. I finally figured out how to fix that, by running in compatibility mode, and generated a 64x64 world. Not sure if that's large enough to truly enjoy this, though. Opinions anyone? I can probably generate a 200x200 or larger map if I leave it going overnight/tomorrow, and until I'm free tomorrow.
i love this generator. BY FAR my favorite =D... only thing that kind of pisses me off is that im making a 256x256 chunk map, and it has been going 5 hours and is only at 9.23.......% something.. please update so it goes faster.
also for anyone wondering, 64x64 chunk maps are definately ok. they eventually run out, but you get quite a good amount of map. a good starting amount.
If it gets stuck compressing it usually means one of the GZip processes died. If that happens, you can kill the program and the map will still work, it will just be missing the one chunk where compression failed. You shouldn't need to run in compatibility mode.
I have a plan now for speeding this thing up (involves memoization), but I don't expect to get it implemented until next week.
800x800 should take maybe an hour longer than that, assuming things work out to scale with my system. If you want to play it safe, maybe 600x600 (this is already ridiculously huge).
800x800 is 49 square miles of map. 600x600 is 25 square miles.

that's 3.5x the size of the Oblivion game world :3... or was it fallout 3?
Street rat?
Riff-raff?
I don't... buy that!
If only they'd look closer...
Would they see a poor boy?
No sir!

Trying this now.
Just spent 2 horus in this. The amazement didn't cease for a minute!
Considering the complexity of what's underground, I'm surprised it doesn't take even longer!
