Can you please talk with some plugin developers to make their plugins craftbukkit-compatible (wild grass, etc)
LOL i laugh at ppl who think doing this will help them push those ppl whom don't have anything to do with bukkit further.. i think most everything is waiting on the CB to be released so to speak b4 doing anything on there mods.. there is not a reason to work on there mods if they don't know if CB will be supporting the protical or the API will allow them to use it a certian way.. so just go play and just wait like the rest of us

CB works pretty well in general and is pretty well supported by plugin developers. Many people ported plugins or duplicated functionality of existing plugins already. I'd give it at least 1
Introducing Bukkit - a new Minecraft Server mod
Postby EvilSeph » Sat Jan 01, 2011 10:01 pm
OK the perfect binary posting time 01/01/11 10:01 and the fact that we're goin on two months since the announcement has made me wonder if it was just a nerd tease. But I see all the bukkit references elsewhere so it must be real.
Now with minecraft 1.3 out, and the hMod (which I use on my 1.2 server) upgrade delayed... is there any chance we could get an alpha pre-release no-guarantee taste of bukkit? I notice serveral mods already have the bukkit stamp, so...
That's hilarious. I didn't even realised I posted at that specific time.
Take a look at http://wiki.bukkit.org/Setting_up_a_server for information on how to start using Bukkit. Please note, this is a development build and will change rapidly. You will, most likely, want to use our Recommended Builds unless you want to help us test Bukkit and don't mind dealing with rapid development and bugs or issues.
We had a Minecraft 1.3 compatible release ~6-7 hours or so after the Minecraft update went live.
Thank you sir! Up and runnin, looks good so far :smile.gif: Now I can start with the upgraded (bukkit!) addons and bring my old worldata forward (fingers crossed).
Can't wait for this to come out officially very excited. I use it now and its only a pre-release version I can only imagine the completed version.
I do agree I was able to pick up hey0 faster but I did notice how redundant it was. I'm glad something is coming out with the mindset of doing it the right way instead of just adding more until it works.
Question: So this will have all the commands that hMod had? And can I get it to run with MCAdmin, as I've been able to with hMod?
It will be up to the plugin developers to write the commands. The aim of Bukkit is to provide the tools plugin developers need to do whatever the hell we want. So we won't be forced with white lists, blacklists, message of the day etc. You pretty much get to choose exactly what your server does.
So wait...Will I need to know how to code to use this? It isn't just a plug in I can install that already has things like setspawn and sethome, but instead, provide me the tools for me to do it myself?
For most of the plugins, you download the plugin, and drop it into the plugin directory. There is some small editing of a file or two for some plugins , but this is all plain English editing. (By plain English I mean that there isn't any programming involved.)
I'm having issues trying to get a bukkit server running. I'm running Ubuntu x64 server 10.10 with 4GB ram and an Athlon X3 processor. I can start the server up fine and once it's started I can enter console commands no problem.
However once a player connects (myself, for instance, to test it out) the server then breaks down. Within 4 seconds the server console stops accepting commands and the game client times out. The console accepts commands (hitting enter after entering a command gives me a new line with a fresh carat) but it doesn't actually execute the command, or even give me an "invalid command" warning. Nobody can connect and I can't even execute "stop". I have to kill the server using sudo killall java.
Here's some example console output (note that there are no java exceptions or warnings at all):
20:33:21 [INFO] This server is running Craftbukkit version git-Bukkit-0.0.0-523-g1e5ec12-b533jnks (MC: 1.3)

Great job man. You should be a sales man. You could almost sell nuke waste to someone. Not saying Bukkit is nuke waste xD. It's great.
Well that's productive. I'm new to Minecraft server administration and some google searches came up with Bukkit so I decided to give it a shot. I'm using hMod right now anyways (since I'm unable to get Bukkit to work).
Next time you decide to say something snarky without providing any real help to somebody's inquiry, keep your snide remarks to yourself.

I think he was talking to me?
Anyway, you ran into issues as you were running a (potentially unstable) development build and we encountered a bug that would lock up the server with that specific build, so you were just unlucky. In the future, I suggest you stick with our recommended builds instead.
I don't know too much about programming, but it sounds like it will be possible to create a "creative" mode (i.e. building without needing to mine for resources) with this .

It's really starting to bug me now. Pretty much ALL the good servers that I go to, run on Bukkit...
