Wouldn't it make more sense to put all this effort into defining the needs/requirements for notch to build an official API into Minecraft? Maybe even some sample code he could utilize to expedite the process?
I love me some mods but I also really love me some officially supported mods.
If you include a few toggle-able mobs, you will be legend.
I'm sure that's possible even on the basic Minecraft server. I know for sure this is possible on Hey0s mod because I have done this myself and removed creepers from the spawnlist.
Looking forward to this. Server and mod updates with Hey0 caused me to stop running my server after the Beta update killed all my favourite plugins (not to mention the server itself).
im confused, is this available for download?
if so, i have another question im running a hmod server now, i dont want to get rid of it but bukkit sound so much better and hmod is fazing out. with that said i dont want to loose my world map, anyway to switch it over. if not id like to see that feature.
thanks
Bloq: It's my understanding that they're simply making a library, that other plugins will be able to hook into. Unless I've misread things, someone will have to make a plugin that replicates the admin functionality.
Riotsafely: No, it's not available for download yet. You won't lose your world map, hey0 has absolutely no interaction with your world files.
if you agree with bucket being the only server moder to use for managin a server join the bukkit list by pasting your name (maybe someone can make site where we register and then put a self refreshing link to a page showing entire list?)

If you're not a fan of Java (we don't blame you), Bukkit's design allows for plugins to be written natively in any language with ease.
I'm really excited about this, but how exactly do you plan to do it? Will all plugins need *some* java to interface with the library, or what? On the wiki I only saw how to make a plugin in Java, no information on what plugin devs will have to do if they're using another language.
How do you figure that? There's already a functional, if somewhat threadbare, version of craftBukkit available. Plugins are being ported with abandon. I'd be surprised if a full release version is more than a month away.
We have not released any preview release. Anyone saying otherwise is incorrect. You *can* download our current builds by following that tutorial, but it is considered an unofficial release/build and it is not supported.
Why is this coming now, when Notch already announced that he will be implementing an official API?
Problem is, even though it was announced, you'll never know when it will be released. This may be tomorrow, next week, in a month, or even never. Plus, it will be released, wouldn't it be easier to implement an already coded API rather than for Notch and team to write a new one.
In the meanwhile, I'll enjoy whatever API I will be given, be it hMod, Bukkit, etc.
Ah, lesigh, I was just getting stuff working on the hmod too. all I had was figuring out how to get Iconomy to work for selling/buying between players. I'll have to hold until they get this guy up and running

Wait, if the Nether is where the damned go, what happens to the things you kill in the Nether?
Canada.

Disclaimer: ... but for all I know running this application will wreck your map or jump out of your screen and rape your dog.

And non-java plugin scripting!? :biggrin.gif:
