I'm just being impatient here. When will Bukkit be updated to Beta_1.5? All my favorite servers aren't working and I keep getting the errors:
End of Stream
or
Internal Exception: java.netSocketException: Connection reset
It's really starting to bug me now. Pretty much ALL the good servers that I go to, run on Bukkit...

this really does need to be upated..... its been a while....
most servers i use ALL use bukket and are in temp worlds making me unable to even finish some of the stuff i have built.....
We have had a 1.5_02 compatible update done for a while now (2 days ago, infact!). We're just sorting out some really annoying issues before we promote a recommended build.
You can get the test build here, but please remember that it is a TEST ONLY build and shouldn't be used on a production server until you're sure it's fine: http://goo.gl/s4pHU
Sorry that I don't check these forums that often..it always logs me out...

My friends and I have an existing server and wanted to integrate craftbukkit into that server. However, I am running into SERIOUS issues trying to get the .jar file to load the world. If I copy the entire contents of the old server into the folder with the extracted materials from the .jar file it refuses to load the "world" folder contents. If I launch the original .exe downloaded from minecraft.net before the .jar batch file, the whole thing goes great but no craftbukkit. Once I launch the .jar file, neither works in the old world. A new world is replaced (NOT generated) every time I launch the .jar. Any explanation or decent guides as to how to actually fix this problem or integrate beyond simply "copy your world folder over and launch?"
Do maps that use Bukkit break on update? Or is it simply a matter of running the map using the origonal minecraft server? What I'm really saying is can a map that has been used in Bukkit be used by the default minecraft server?
Sorry to bump this thread, but will bukkit ever be updated to the 1.9 pre-release? Has devolopment already started?
They wont update until it is out. And when they do it will probably be 1 update to make it compatible and thats it. They never fix bukkit issues, they just bring them over from previous releases.
Bukkit is a great server tool.
Bukkit forum, however is a less than great tool for finding support for bukkit plugins.
I can no longer say that it is a one-stop shop for all the bukkit plugins I use, or that it is a well run site, in my experience.
Bukkit dev is not, as yet, providing the promised solution to the problems of Bukkit forum.
I await further developments of the Bukkit Dev site in the hope that it can provide better service in the future.
Bukkit is an amazing server modification, however the website administrators have some problems, they recently banned a user simply for disagreeing with them, they even went as far to censor the download links for his mods and to lock the threads, so no users can download or get support for his quite popular mods.
They even began spreading false information about him claiming that his plugins weren't actually his, when he coded 100% of all but one mod, and the last one he had taken control of over a year ago when the developer passed it off.
They also delete any topics started about the mod author, his mods, the fact they're censoring us, and his website and even threaten bans on us for "helping him bypass his ban" even though all were doing is trying to get users updated versions of his popular mods.
This post was kept name free and is in no way meant to flame bukkit or start any arguments, this is simply a review of their most recent interactions.
Edit: After awhile they seem to be at least attempting to offer to make things right as far as I'm concerned, so this may have been a hiccup, we'll see what the future holds, either way they still make great software. :smile.gif:

tl;dr
Great software, not so great web admins.
The user banned was spreading misinformation, twisting words and insulting the Bukkit team after multiple warnings to stop his childish actions. After waiting a long time for him to stop, the Bukkit team stepped in and banished him from the community entirely. You can see their comments on the issue here.
I was impressed with their patience in letting him continue his abusive posts for so long before the ban. I'd argue they're an effective and intelligent administrative team. :smile.gif:
they recently banned a user simply for disagreeing with them,
Two things here. First, it's their site. It's up to them to decide what they want to have on the site and what they don't want to have on the site. Free speech does not apply; it's a privilege to able to be allowed to post on their forum in the first place, and if they see fit to revoke that privilege, that is their prerogative.
Second, yes; this user (who I will continue not to name) did disagree with them, and this user was banned. But what evidence can you present to prove that they were banned because they disagreed with the Bukkit team? Correlation does not equal causation. If you had been following this situation right from the start, I believe you would have seen a different story. Yes, this user was disagreeing with the Bukkit team, but forget about that detail for the moment. The basic content of that user's post is not relevant to the situation; it's not what he was banned for. What he was banned for was the way the content was presented; his attitude, if you like. Suppose he had presented the same content in the form of a carefully reasoned argument. Do you really think the Bukkit team would have banned him for that? I don't believe they would have.
Now, I haven't followed the situation in detail; I saw some of the user's posts, which struck me as kind of... I dunno, condescending or something... but I think I missed most of the worst of them near the end. So, don't take me as an ultimate authority on this situation. At the same time, try to do your research before you make claims based on rumour, speculation, and (perhaps) bitter remarks from the user who was banned. There is much, much more to this situation than your post would suggest, to the extent that you're majorly misrepresenting the situation as a whole.
All the rest of the so-called "issues" in your post were simply a logical consequence of the user being banned. The user was banned for a reason: the team decided that they did not want that user on their site because the user's presence lowered the overall quality of experience there in some way.
They even began spreading false information about him claiming that his plugins weren't actually his, when he coded 100% of all but one mod, and the last one he had taken control of over a year ago when the developer passed it off.
Everyone makes mistakes. I'm not entirely sure whether his plugins were originally his (I can see at least four of the six plugins he has were not originally his, but two of those imply he rewrote them from the ground up), but that the admin team made this claim may simply mean they are misinformed. On the other hand, it may be you who are misinformed. My main point is that you're reading malice into a statement that could just as easily have been made in ignorance, and in could even have been fact.
They also delete any topics started about the mod author, his mods, the fact they're censoring us, and his website and even threaten bans on us for "helping him bypass his ban" even though all were doing is trying to get users updated versions of his popular mods.
I can't speak for the team, but I would suspect that's because most of the people starting such topics are making the same mistake that user made, which is to say they're whining and flaming and generally being negative, a bit like your post here but less polite.
this is simply a review of their most recent interactions.
Oh sure, it's a review. It's a very one-sided review that shows only a small fraction of the big picture, though.
Like the user that was banned, you're spreading misinformation. It doesn't seem to me that you're doing it purposely though; I get the impression that you yourself are misinformed about the situation and of the belief that said misinformation is fact. I don't really know or care why this may be the case. My goal here is to point out some of the things you have missed and question some of the conclusions you or your sources have jumped to. Personally I don't think the Bukkit team has acted unreasonably in this situation, for the most part. The ban, at least, seems perfectly reasonable to me, and most of the rest I think is a bit out of annoyance that so many people simply can't see what's in front of their eyes.
If that was too long for you, here's a brief summary. :smile.gif: What you posted is not the whole story, and is misrepresenting the full picture. If you saw the full picture, you may even agree that the user deserved the ban, not for disagreeing but for his attitude.
But what evidence can you present to prove that they were banned because they disagreed with the Bukkit team?
What evidence do you have that I wasn't? I disagreed very vocally with the push to BukkitDev, the Bukkit team disappears to BlizzCon where they're all shown wearing Curse shirts, then come back and ban me. Sounds like a Curse order to me :wink.gif:
What he was banned for was the way the content was presented; his attitude, if you like. Suppose he had presented the same content in the form of a carefully reasoned argument. Do you really think the Bukkit team would have banned him for that? I don't believe they would have.
I believe they would have, but we will never know, because that is my general attitude towards people who push things on their community without discussing it.
but I think I missed most of the worst of them near the end. So, don't take me as an ultimate authority on this situation. At the same time, try to do your research before you make claims based on rumour, speculation, and (perhaps) bitter remarks from the user who was banned. More to the situation? All of my posts are publicly available to you, I never received PMs, only have one infraction from 6 months ago. You can see everything I saw.
Everyone makes mistakes. I'm not entirely sure whether his plugins were originally his (I can see at least four of the six plugins he has were not originally his, but two of those imply he rewrote them from the ground up), but that the admin team made this claim may simply mean they are misinformed. Hmm, really? You see 4? Which plugins would those be? Care to provide some proof of this, some existing code I based them off of? Or are you just spreading lies like the Bukkit staff? As I've said MANY times, the ONLY plugin with a codebase of another plugin is Stargate, everything else is based on an IDEA with 100% my own code.
I can't speak for the team, but I would suspect that's because most of the people starting such topics are making the same mistake that user made, which is to say they're whining and flaming and generally being negative, a bit like your post here but less polite.
Actually there was one post added to the end of each of my topics with a link to my new support forum, this wasn't done by me, this was done by the owner of the server I work for. These posts were removed for "helping me bypass my ban", the topics were then locked for the same invalid reason.
If you saw the full picture, you may even agree that the user deserved the ban, not for disagreeing but for his attitude.
I had 2500 posts, a large portion of the disagreeing posts were in Bukkit+, a location new users can't even see, and they are trying to claim I made the forums "unwelcoming". To me, banning a user for disagreeing with how things are being done (And that is the real reason they banned me), blatantly censoring user posts, banning people for trying to offer alternate routes of support for popular plugins, forcing a change to a completely broken and worthless system, and in general being heavy-handed and controlling is far more unwelcoming than anything I did.
Want to know how you don't run a community? You don't replace all instances of "thedgtl.net" with "google.com" without informing users, just because you don't have confidence in your ability to keep your community alive.
You make a lot of claims with no information or proof to back them up.
Yes, I am loud, yes I can be rude, but I am not ashamed of that, I am not afraid of people seeing what I act like, here is every post that I posted on the Bukkit forums that anybody who was a newcomer to the community could stumble upon: http://forums.bukkit.org/search/member?user_id=3041
people who push things on their community without discussing it.
It's hilarious that you believe any of these communities (whether Bukkit forums, Minecraft forums, or really any major forums) are a democracy. They are not. Whoever runs the community has the final say on things relating to the community. Obviously if they completely ignore what their users think, the community will just die, so they do need to have some consideration of their users; however, at the same time they're under no obligation to discuss things with the community before doing something.
You have no deleted posts? That's interesting, I was not aware of that. Of course, that also means that everyone can see for themselves how deserved (or undeserved) your ban truly is. :wink.gif: (Well, at least everyone with access to the Bukkit+ forum, I guess.)
Hmm, really? You see 4? Which plugins would those be?
Stargate and its DHD add-on are the main ones. The edge case ones were iChat and um... I think it was InvTool, the former because it's essentially Niji's plugin and the other because there was a note in the post saying that it already existed for hMod and you rewrote it for Bukkit. I call them "edge cases" for a reason though; basically the idea was not yours but from what I could tell all the code was. I had 2500 posts, a large portion of the disagreeing posts were in Bukkit+, a location new users can't even see, and they are trying to claim I made the forums "unwelcoming".
Even so, Bukkit+ is a significant part of the community. Sure, your disagreements may have been hidden from a large chunk of the community, but the portion that could see the whole situation is still quite a significant chunk of the community. Basically what I mean is that an argument that you kept "unwelcoming" posts to the Bukkit+ forum does not imply that you did not make the forum "unwelcoming" because most people could not see your posts.
This is at best a hyperbole; it does have its flaws, but at a basic level it's reasonably good. I can't help wondering, did you ever actually try it?
On a final note, a large number of plugin developers are now using BukkitDev without complaint. I won't say that BukkitDev is perfect, because it clearly isn't; I think on the whole it's superior to the forum system, but it still has a few fairly major flaws to be worked out, and this is pretty slow in happening, which is of course annoying. But apart from you and a few other significant complainers, most people seem to be adapting quite well.

I imagine it's the "vocally" part they had an issue with more than the "disagreed" part. More specifically, the way in which you were vocal about it.
Ultimately, it's probably exactly this attitude (perhaps taken to extremes) which led to your ban.
It's hilarious that you believe any of these communities (whether Bukkit forums, Minecraft forums, or really any major forums) are a democracy. They are not.
