Just as Herronelou said. Set your camera hight to the maximum value.
But first, start Minetographer in manual mode. Instructions for manual mode is detailed in the main post. Then set the value -Xmx to about 75% of your total system ram. For example, if you have 4GB installed, set the value to "-Xmx3g".
So yes it's rendering my nether, but it's rendering all the top layer of bedrock (that should be present in all legit nether world) so we can't see anything..
It's been doing that since the 1st version i tried, that's why i keep asking what you're going to do about the nether :tongue.gif:
Modify the 4 digit number -Xmx####m to be whatever amount of RAM you are trying to use. I use half of my 8 gigs, so 4096mb is about 4gigs. If you devote all of your systems RAM you will run into problems, Windows needs its fair share :wink.gif:
After you type in that command line, hit enter. Minetographer will start up with the new RAM parameters.
but how do i start the linux version... all i see is a jar file and ds_store file and some txt files
how do i start the linux version so i can run it?
You start the linux version with the windows command console. You get to that by clicking start, or the circular windows symbol on the taskbar for Win7, and typing "cmd" into the "Search Programs and Files" area. Hit enter, and a small black box will pop up. That is the command window. It should say something like C:\Users\Rawblin\ (This is where you should have extracted all the files of the linux Minetographer)
When you see that, just type in the command line "java -Xmx4096m -jar Minetographer.jar -run" (without quotes)
That command tells java to run the Minetographer.jar file. It also tells it how much RAM to allocate to the program.

First of all, awesome program, thanks for that. I do have some concerns though. Some are from 0.7.5, some are new to 0.7.6
since 0.7.5:
* the program generates one more zoom level than specified. a setting of 2 would generate 3 levels etc. not a big deal, I can compensate for that.
* rendering a map, then changing settings, then hitting render again does not work. I have to close to the application and start it again to render the same world. a bit annoying but not a big deal once I've found nice settings to stick with.
new in 0.7.6:
* biggest height from floor 24 is too close for my taste. I used 32 in 0.7.5 and even planned on going up to 48. I appreciate the option to generate really detailed maps but I cba to upload 1GB+ maps very often. :smile.gif:
So this is a fairly big deal to me. Here's a suggestion for the levels (imo the current 2-step increases on the higher end is way too granular)
2 4 8 12 16 20 24 32 40 48
Or you could enable the option again to enter the number manually.
Again, thanks for your hard work, it's just that I have to return to 0.7.5 for the time being. :smile.gif:
Thanks for all this info. This is exactly what I like to get from the community!
I have added most of these are already implemented for the next release. And Ill take the others into consideration.
Hmm that may explain it. I haven't done any testing on Linux at all. I was just going to deal with bugs as they come along. Ill add Ubuntu testing to my todo list for the next release.
So! I have a bug report for you. I have no idea how much or how little of this is helpful. how did this get here, I am not very good with computer, etc.

Good job! Program looks good and is easy to install / operate. However, I would suggest that it give an estimated time or % of rendering finished, so I can calm myself when I think it's going to kill my computer. Or maybe a pause button on the rendering so my computer doesn't have to run about 190 MB/247 MB of RAM for 2 hours straight.

"EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGSEGV)" is quite often a sign of a failing RAM stick. If you are running Windows I would recommend going here: http://oca.microsoft.../en/windiag.asp and running a memory test. If you are on a Mac, boot into single user mode and type the following command to initiate a memory test: "memtest all 2".
You might want to just Google "EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGSEGV)" and get more detailed instructions on handling this issue. Best of luck!

I can be a tester if you fix the download. I use Ubuntu, but also use Windows (XP), so I can check for bugs there too.

OH I see what you mean.. I'll investigate this.
I use the linux version of minetographer for this. Link is in the first post.
Once you have that installed, click "Start", type in "cmd" and then hit "enter".
Once the black command window is open, type in
"java -Xmx4096m -jar Minetographer.jar -run" (without quotes)

Hope that helps.
Zombiecraft Maps!
Are you running Ubuntu? Just a hunch.
Buying the keys for RB3 soon, and yes, my skyrim is in the mail.
Zombiecraft Maps!
You didn't type the command we gave you correctly.

Little issue i noticed: Not all players are clickable, some are here but we can't click them..

Anyway, like I said, really cool program!

It just loads for like 30 seconds, then closes the tab. (or, if I opened it in the same tab, it just stays on the page.)

Downloads work fine for me. All three of them.
