Wondering if any coders out there have thought about building a world generator application that uses the same algorithms that Minecraft uses in-game to generate worlds? It would be great to load up a program, specify the desired size of the map, and have the tool generate a world of that size.
Main reason why this would be great for me is so I can generate a large world, view the world in a map viewer, and determine if I'm happy with the biomes and layout of the map before I load it up in Minecraft and start building. Also would likely improve performance in-game since the chunks are already generated.
With some editable parameters, this could be a powerful tool. Like height variation, for instance, if you want flat or mountainous maps, or the ability to change the frequency of each biome. Want.
jerx99 wins. I wasn't aware of this tool but just set up a server and used it to generate a 5000 x 5000 world. Copied the world into single player and it works like a dream. Having this work with BiomeTerrain when it's updated will be the icing on the cake!

Any thoughts?
