Thanks for this! It's probably very difficult to port to Linux or Mac ... instead, could you please post some World maps for us non-Windows people to check out?
Windows 7 32-bit
3gb ram
enough space
blahblah etcetc
When I create a new world the folder appears, but the button doesnt appear, when i try to overwrite it does nothing.
When i extract the .exe and try both of those, the cmd prompt thing crashes
I dunno what to do, it would be nice if someone could help

What button?
Edit1: I <3 the setting that lets you control how big the planets are, if you make a 64x64 map with both of the planet settings set to 4 you should get OVER 9000!!!! /lie, you should get over 7000.

Request for mode: Adminum layer.I hate falling in water,i want to insta-die,and open sky is quite laggy
of course lotsa mobs would spawn there, too.
How about Lava at the bottom of the Map instead of Adminium?
Why?It would still lag because no solid blocks would cover the void.
BUT if you meant lava + adminum, then I'm with you.
Actually since lava is Opaque the game wont attempt to render the endless void, but yes I did mean Lava + Adminium.
I figured I might aswell post this post instead of making another edit to make sure the Thread doesn't die =)
You can know use Open Sky for SMP since damage has been released, yay!
I am looking to forward to using this, if I can get it to work. It always says, when it's just about done, that windows has encountered a problem and needs to close. Anyone know how to fix that?

I was once mining out some iron, and the lava
fell in me.
But I lost 120 pounds in 4 seconds thanks to Lava!

It isnt a mod, it is an external Generator, as long as Notch doesnt change the level format or remove any kind of block type, this will work.

I can make you a map, or you can download one from the first page of the topic.
I generated a map, could someone tell me how to run the map? I'd rather e able to generate a limitless amount than be bound by the same specific ones over and over...
So, in general the way this thing works for single player:
1. You run it after unzipping it and it makes a world folder in the same location as the .exe itself (so the folder will be wherever you ran the program). For single player you should make a folder named something like World1, World2, etc.
2. You copy the folder into your saves folder (for windows, type %appdata% at a run prompt, open the minecraft folder, and then open the saves folder - you put the generated world folder here)
3. Run Minecraft and load the saved game that corresponds to the name of the folder you copied.
Note that if you have trouble with an "open sky" map, on with water below is likely to still work.
I don't see a saves folder... could someone help me out with this?
Never mind, I found the saves folder. After 15 minutes of grueling and bitter work tat left me so exhausted I could hardly feel my limbs. I'm lucky I could even edit this post after what I've endured.

Just so you know, I am making a server with this map generator as soon as it's SMP compatible. Because this is awesome. Also maybe you should think about adding dungeon planets? AKA planets made out of mossy cobblestone with a room inside with a spawner and loot chests.
EDIT: That would probably lag like hell though. Sorry. Here''s a cartograph of an average planetoids map to make up for it:
I would probably like this generator more if I knew where it saved the worlds to...
Well, just extract the zip file to a folder called Planetoids. It will ask you what to name the world you want to save, so name it something obvious like PLANETOIDWORLD1. It should create a folder full of around 300+ files of crap in the same folder you unzipped the exe file to. Move/copy that whole folder to your /AppData/Roaming/.minecraft/saves/ folder, and rename it to World1 through World5, and you can load it next time you launch minecraft.
In a universe, where Diamond is non-existent, wood and coal outnumber stone and dirt, and gravel is more valuable then any other material...
Lava: 0
Obisidian: 0
... And the nether is a mythical place...
Really need to randomize the cores of planets with more then one material, and give them lava inner cores. Its fun to play, but gets boring really fast when theres really nowhere to go and no reason to explore. All you have to do is get to a tree planet and you are set for a home, then get to a star and you have light.

Huh, there should be diamond there. I might have broken something when I added the gravel though. I'll take a look at that (mean to work on this a bit more in the next couple days).
For people wanting the source: this was written entirely in C#. I could see releasing it after a bit (I have two other generators I'm working on, and want to get them out before I flood the market :tongue.gif:). I also want to rework things a bit so it only "renders" a 3x3 chunk section at a time so the memory requirements aren't insane for large maps. It's bit tricky since blocks outside the current chunk can potentially illumninate blocks inside of it, but I'm pretty sure I can make it work.
Giving a couple other options for what's at the bottom should be easy enough too.
It looks like it's more of an issue of rarity. Currently 1/4 of the planetoids are stone, and of those, roughly 1% are diamond, 1% are gravel, and 1% are lava. In a smaller world you might not get any of those. It seems to make sense to increase at least the last two proabilities, maybe the diamond too.

I've been dying to make a map editor, but the file format is just so intimidating, I feel I'd never finish...

Dirt planets should have stone cores. The 2-3 layers isn't sufficient for any real construction.
Glass planets could have the rare occasion of having lava.
Stars could be bloodstone that is on fire. I saw what it looked like with a wood planet on fire and thought it looked better.
And that is all I have for suggestions.
