I rarely post about terrain generators, but this is simply brilliant! After leaving the forest worlds for a small earthanoid, and finding the stone, metallic, marine, and desert (which was the trickiest) planets, I've managed to make a sizable house on the area.
Due to the unbreakable wall, I shall make it my quest to reach the nearest star, construct a portal, and warp to the real world! It'll be funky whenever I die and get warped to the galaxy zone, though.
Also, CAT makes a great song for the ambiance, even if you can't get the record until after reaching the Nether and entering the "real" Minecraft world!
this looks awesome but i think it would be better if the planets were bigger and if there was a way to stand upside down on the bottom side of the planet but idk if it is possible
I was thinking through the portal idea last night, and it occurred to me that I don't actually spawn any gravel (didn't think of it before or I would have mentioned it). Hence, there isn't any flint to be had either. Can you open a portal using lava?
Also, I'm experimenting with larger planet sizes. I don't like the way it looks personally, but it's easy enough to make it a parameter.
For reference a 128x128 map almost completely destroyed my Laptop. So if you could make a version that generates maps slower, I'd be grateful and you'd get a from me.
Edit1: Nevermind, I just found out a 16x16 map makes 150 Planetoids,
Edit2: Could you make it to where It might make a Tree on a Dirt Planetoid?

There is a minecraft/infiniminer clone being made right now that has a moon motif. You walk around a planetoid.
Hmm... The .exe for the planetoid map generator keeps crashing whenever it start saving the chunks. The chunks are 16x16 and its set to save in world 5, which is not being taken.... I dont even know...

Hmm... It's running GZip at that point. You're not trying to run this from the compressed file, are you? That would fail the way you're describing. Otherwise, I'm not sure.
So, in general the way this thing works for single player:
1. You run it after unzipping it and it makes a world folder in the same location as the .exe itself (so the folder will be wherever you ran the program). For single player you should make a folder named something like World1, World2, etc.
2. You copy the folder into your saves folder (for windows, type %appdata% at a run prompt, open the minecraft folder, and then open the saves folder - you put the generated world folder here)
3. Run Minecraft and load the saved game that corresponds to the name of the folder you copied.
Note that if you have trouble with an "open sky" map, on with water below is likely to still work.
Ah I saw my problem! I was running the exe from a briefcase. For some reason that made it broke. It was not in the zip folder. I know the dangers of running something directly from the .zip ( )
1. Yes there is snow, but it acts kind of weird (maybe because of biomes?) when you dig up one patch you usually destroy any nearby snow too.
2. Some of the sand planets are stable and some aren't. They all seem to be safe if you don't dig at them though.

It seems like it would make an interesting map to try to play on, but there isn't really much to explore since all the planets are just spheres.

Did you copy the world folder it generated into the Minecraft "saves" folder? You should start on a planetoid - not really possible to miss them.

But I would really really like to see gravel. I want very much to get flint and stell and burn a tree planet but I can't
