It's hard to tell. The same thing happened to me once and I figured out it was the ladder rendering code that had an error. Then I fixed that. It could be pretty much anything (except ladders!). I need more information to debug it, and I'm adding crash reports to fix that. So right now there is nothing to do about it unfortunately.
No problem, I can still use other maps if I want. I think I was just being a little picky choosing this one. It was the very first thing I had ever made in Minecraft so it looked bad anyways.
lens effects and atmospheric effects would be cool. Like lens flare in a hot desert scene or fog for swamps etc.
An option to render mobs? Don't know if that is possible since spawning is localized around the player.
built in sky maps
rain, rain puddles, snow fall, snow deformation on surfaces, tracks in snow and sand (from mobs mentioned before, still a stretch), particles such as smoke
first person render (as if playing)
once speed is improved, could add camera paths for animation or integration with CamStudio
Did you select the area you wanted to view. It doesn't render the entire world, just the parts you want to see. To select an area, leave you finger on shift and drag the area you would like to render.
Yep that did it for me.
But I've gotten a new problem. It seems that after I finished rendering a fairly large image (1280x1024), the program started rendering a new frame immediately before I could save the one I waited 5 hours to render out:/
Is there anyway I can get it to stop after the image is done?
Also a suggested feature, Option to use swampland colors or not instead of always being on. Since updating to 1.2.5, my biome data changed and the building I want to render is in a choppy swampland making the picture awful.

Yes, I should add an option to disable the biome colors! I'll put that in the next release.

Ouch! That was unfortunate! Did you look in the directory where you started Chunky though? It should have saved in-progress renders. Currently there is no good way of stopping AND saving the render, which I really should fix. I think a Pause option would work nicely.

Just throwing ideas out there
I'll definitely add fog some time in the future. Rendering mobs is tricky, probably won't do that anytime soon. Weather effects like rain and snow are also tricky but more doable. The first person idea is something I've thought about a bit, wouldn't be too hard to add.
Yea... but sadly, there's a flipped chunk in the back (and I think it's a bug of Chunky, though I had both MC and the render running at that time so it could be some temporar save corruption).
Also, there's another problem I've found - I can't set the canvas size to higher values then my resolution. That's quite bad when I want to render images for my widescreen laptop on my pc. However, this is probably a Windows limitation.
An idea - maybe you could add a separate taskbar entry for each chunky window - when I render "fullscreen" images, it's hard to switch between render controls and 3D view (render view).
I have no idea if you're aware but some blocks aren't rendering properly - enchantment table, dragon egg, end portal and it's frames to name a few.
Given how water looks compared to ingame, the End Portal could probably be given a really awesome effect while the others are just differently shaped blocks. The enchantment table book is an entity, I believe, but you could probably fake it somehow.
I am aware of these rendering issues. Will be fixed in the future.

And last thing: keep up the good work!
Yes running Chunky while MC is running can cause chunk load errors in Chunky.
Note that the canvas size is not the same as the size of the 3D view window. If you set a size larger than your desktop you will still be rendering the size you chose for the canvas view. Try using the "Save Current Frame" button to verify that the rendered image is size you chose.
The image is just scaled to fit the 3D view window.
New user here, and I have to say that this is a great program man, this is incredible!
However I do have one question:
Is there a way to see the position of the sun other than trial and error? I don't particularly like rendering small versions of my main shot over and over to try and get the sun's angle and color just right.
Dude i must say that this is one of the most amazing things that i have ever seen, Super easy and really amazing results. Only question is that if there is a way to pan the camera around the scene before rendering??
Here is one of my renders:
Again, Thanks a lot and keep up the great work!! ^_^/

Glad you like it! No, unfortunately there is no way to see the shadows without rendering a test shot.
I would love it if wools would show as different colours, I made a giant model from wool blocks, but I couldn;t render it D:
Yes different colored wool should work. Try using the latest version (1.0.4) it should load the different colored wools from the default Minecraft texture pack, if you have Minecraft installed.
By the way it seems many people are still using version 1.0.3 and previous. I urge you to please update to version 1.0.4. There have been many bug fixes and rendering improvements.
Im getting a problem where about 10 minuets into my render I get a message box that pops up saying:
could not open renders directory
and then a whole description.
I made a Scenes folder in the directory it specified with no luck.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks

Does it work if you just rename the current Scenes directory? This happens when you try to save the scene or when the renderer tries to save a "dump". Last resort would be to disable the dump saving (there is a check box in the General tab) - then it shouldn't try to create the directory.
Pretty nice! I don't like the UI but I suppose it's serviceable and better than some unix-like CLI
I would have preferred if the UI looked native, instead of this out-of-place default SWING look and feel, but it's the best alternative I've found. It might be possible to make SWING look more native, or to use SWT but now I'm so deep in SWING that there's no point switching.
Edit: Okay this is going to sound really stupid, but I just tried setting system look and feel thingy in SWING and it works. I have no idea how I screwed that up last time I tried!
okay... I REALLY want to use this program but it's being a pain.
When I boot up the program it works good and I can select chunks and stuff but when I press render the 3d viewer comes up and this little message box shows up in front of it and says "could not open render directory" and I went to system 32 in the windows folder and made a scenes folder but the same message comes up! I've tried everything and it's frustrating!!
help please?
