Sounds good, I still can't get it to work at the moment, but am trying a few things before I just go and create a fresh .jar. Will post the results later.
You will need, at least, Notch's version of dm.class to be in the jar when you run the installer. I am not sure if the installer will blow up if the two mojang files are already removed from the META-INF directory, as I didn't write the installer.
Yeah, if you can make a version compatible for older hardware it'd be greatly appreciated!
We will look into this. It is a major pain using XNA 3.1 though, since it does not support the latest development tools.
And neither do half the computers people here. I was looking forward to this only to find out I can't run it.
I'm very disgusted.
First of all, it was no secret that we were requiring .NET and XNA 4. Without those frameworks, this project would not be.
Call us lazy if you like, but we are not OpenGL or Java experts, but rather .NET programmers by profession. We played to our strengths to make the most powerful mapping tool we could, not the most compatible mapping tool possible. I suggest you use Simple Map, as it has recently been re-released and uses Java.
It says Connection Refused when I open the program. I already install the .NET 4 and XNA 4.
Minecraft must be running before you start the AutoMap and you cannot have blocked the local socket communication with a firewall.
The first time you start AutoMap, it should take you through a very simple install process (basically just a spree of clicking 'OK') which will install the mod into minecraft.jar.
Receiving an error.. and I installed the other bits as required:
No suitable graphics card found.
Could not find a direct3d device that supports the XNA Framework HiDef profile.
Verify that a suitable graphics device is installed.
Ack. This XNA framework just might require DX10. Are you in Vista or newer with a DX10 gfx card?
No.. I'm running Windows XP SP 3.. there is no DX10 for WinXP -that I know of at the moment-... do you have any suggestions?
I have looked into this issue and I found the problem! :biggrin.gif:
I can build the project using either the HiDef profile (more features, less compatibility), or the Reach profile (less features, more compatibility). I see no reason to build it in HiDef, but that was the default, so that is what we built. It should be as easy as flipping the switch to fix it on XP and older hardware.
Update: New build coming shortly that should work on XP with a much wider variety of hardware. Unfortunately, I have no XP machine to test it on anymore!
You may want to have 2 versions, one built with the HiDef option, and one built with the Reach option. Just a thought.
(I have it working by the way)
One thing though, you may want to make it so that you can set each ore to a different toggle key, I guess I didn't explain that well enough before, (or you didn't see that part), oh well.

I don't think there is any visible difference between Reach and HiDef. HiDef provided extra features that we did not use - stuff for 3d games and such. What I mean is I do not think we lost anything by switching to Reach.
Glad to hear it is working!
I think the mineral detection toggle is best as a simple one-key thing. There are already a whole lot of hotkeys to remember, and this would mean 4 more. Perhaps I will add those keys in a future version, and just have them all bound to the same key by default. I don't "think" their toggled states would get out of sync...
I am encountering an error, however it brings up the Microsoft Error report.. do you want me to paste it to you in a message? It's not giving any detailed information about what's causing the error.
To note:
- Deleted Bin folder so I could automatically download a fresh copy.
- Ran MCAM patcher without Minecraft running.
- After patched, opened Minecraft, and once in-game, opened MCAM.
- It shows the blue window of starting up, but then it errors.. no details in error message, just a Microsoft Error Report bit.

Strange. That startup procedure sounds correct. What graphics card do you have, and how much RAM? Also send the contents of the crashdump.txt file in the MinecraftAM folder, if there is one.
Graphics Card: ATI Radeon X300/X550/X1050 Series
1GB of Ram.. and I wish there was a crashdump.txt files in the folder but there is none.
Note: Tried again, deleted the bin folder, and this time deleted MCAM.. re-downloaded both, ran the installer for MCAM without the game running.. then when the game was running I tried to run it and it errored out again.

Hmm. If there is any detailed information at all given in the error message, it would be very helpful.
Here are a few ideas.
1. Try a different (perhaps even a new) world in Minecraft. We have seen some maps that gave the static mapper some trouble.
2. Delete the 'mts' folder in C:\Users\.......\AppData\Roaming\
-- This is where the program building the static maps keeps its cache. It has gotten bugged for us a few times during development.
3. If you have a 'MinecraftAMSettings.txt' in the MinecraftAM folder, open it and change the following value:
Tried all of the above except for deleting the MTS folder... which oddly enough I do not seem to have any sort of 'roaming' folder anywhere in my directory.
I see a couple of files appearing on my desktop whenever I turn on Minecraft.. Automapserver.txt and Automapserver.log.lck

The Automapserver files are created by the mod installed into Minecraft - they most likely contain no useful information at this time.
I guess on XP you wouldn't have a Roaming folder. The 'mts' folder will be in one of your Application Data folders. If I recall, XP has a Local Settings/Application Data folder along with the normal Application Data. Or something like that.
Usually, the only time you get an error with no message like that is when you do not have .NET 4.0 or XNA 4.0 installed. Double check those, please. We are getting an XP box set up to test with, so maybe we can confirm that this is the behavior when one of those frameworks is missing in XP.

Definitely a candidate for Simple Map. Wait... if your laptop doesn't support Direct3D, how does it support OpenGL for Minecraft?

Changes are:
More useful error message when connection is refused (saying, basically, to start Minecraft and not block it with a firewall).
Built with Reach profile instead of HiDef profile, so it should work with dx9 and Win XP!

Haveing them all set to the same thing by default was how I had thought it would be, so go for it.

One last thought: Since there is no crashdump.txt file, it is likely the problem lies outside of AutoMap. Have you updated your graphics drivers lately?
