Excited to see an update to this program / mod. Even though it crashes a lot, I still consider this the best minimap.
Splitting up the map into multiple regions and displaying only a couple high-res at once is a good idea. Would it be possible to also export a full detailed map in TGA form, using a button in the options menu?
I should be able to get the stability patch out tonight. I didn't really do that much, but for me it has completely eliminated the crashes.
And yes, with the 4th generation static map I certainly could put in a button to export a full-detail TGA map. But it may be weeks or months before I even start on the 4th generation
Maybe I can contribute some patches? I can build the java part, but I'm having trouble getting the C# part working (I don't have any experience with C#).
What I try to do:
Open up MinecraftAM.sln in Visual Studio 11 Beta. I get
---------------------------
Microsoft Visual Studio
---------------------------
One or more projects in the solution were not loaded correctly.
Please see the Output Window for details.
---------------------------
And the errors are:
C:\...\MinecraftAM_Source\src\MinecraftAM\MinecraftAM\MinecraftAM.csproj : error : The project file 'C:\...\MinecraftAM_Source\src\MinecraftAM\MinecraftAM\MinecraftAM.csproj' cannot be opened.
AutoMap worked fine before the 1.2.5 version, but now that I've tried to get the latest version of AutoMap working it won't connect to Minecraft. I have done everything like the installation guide says. Please help. :/
Chances are good that some part of your install is out-of-date. There is a good chance that all you need to do is run Patchminecraft.bat (located in your newest automap folder) and then start Minecraft and AutoMap.
If that doesn't work, try getting everything fresh. Delete the mod_automap folder which is found in ".minecraft/mods". Delete Minecraft's bin folder and re-run the Minecraft launcher to download minecraft again. Then install just ModLoader (don't install any other mods. in fact, if there are other mods in the "mods" folder, move them out temporarily). Finally, download the latest AutoMap again and extract to a new, empty folder. Run AutoMap. It should go through its patching process and then close itself. At this point it should be correctly installed.
As things stand, I doubt the map display will ever be fully integrated into Minecraft, but once they release a proper modding API or something, I should be able to make it less necessary to switch focus to the automap window to do things like add waypoints, zoom in and out, etc.
Hey... I LOST MY HOUSE... anyway the map in game isn't big enough to show me my house like its not on the map, i was wondering if this would help me find it? The problem is i cant get it to work i did everything the install guide said and ive read thru this post for some answers and tried redoing everything like deleting the bin file mod file and letting minecraft patch a new bin then doing the whole process over again but i still cant get it to do ANYTHING. When i go into minecraft it will say that it was uploaded or whatever in yellow on the bottom left nd i click on Automap but nothing ever pops op or runs in task manager that i can see that looks like it. I cant get it to do anything ive tried rebooting my computer and running as administrator. Im running 64bit windows 7 4gb ddr3, 2,8ghz i7 laptop if that helps. I downloaded both frameworks. idk what else to try, PLEASE HELP.
Are you sure you are running MinecraftAM.exe and nothing happens and MinecraftAM does not appear in task manager? Your system should be more than capable of handling it. It sounds like you have done everything else correctly. All you should have to do is open MinecraftAM.exe and the AutoMap window will appear (it is a separate window from Minecraft).
Also, AutoMap will not currently generate full-world maps in singleplayer. This broke when the Anvil map format was released and I have not gotten around to fixing it. I think you will find it easier to locate your house using one of the other tools here: http://www.minecraft...Mapping#Mappers
The only one I've tried from that list was JourneyMap and I was not happy with the quality of map it produced, so if I were you I would try something else like Minecraft Overviewer. Unless of course you lost your house on a multiplayer server you don't have the map files for. Then AutoMap really is your best bet.
I'd like to give you the same advice as the guy above. AutoMap is currently only able to show you places that you have been (or been near) while AutoMap is running properly. A better option for you might be to find a program that will generate a map of your entire world. You can use that to figure out where you are in relation to where you want to be. A list of suitable programs is here: http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Programs_and_editors/Mapping#Mappers
After you have generated a full world map, if you still want to use AutoMap, read on:
The first time you open a world after starting Minecraft, you should see some text saying AutoMap Java code was initialized. If you do not see this, run PatchMinecraft.bat (in your AutoMap folder) and make sure you have ModLoader installed correctly.
If you DO see the message in Minecraft, and AutoMap still can't connect, then your "hosts" file is most likely configured wrong. Go to C:\Windows\system32\drivers\etc\ and open the file called "hosts" in notepad. In there, you will probably find that "localhost" has been mapped to 0.0.0.0 or something. It needs to be mapped to 127.0.0.1 before AutoMap will work. If you don't want to mess with that, you can open up automap's settings file (should be right next to MinecraftAM.exe) and find the text "localhost" and replace it with "127.0.0.1" without quotes.
I've used AutoMap in the past, but I'm having issues getting this latest version to work correctly. I'm running a fresh version of minecraft. installed ModLoader, ran the steps to install AutoMap. The install "appears" to go correctly. Shows the moving files into the "mods" directory, shows moving the .class files into the .jar, etc. When I run minecraft, I get a string of messages on the screen when playing.
If Minecraft is already running and a world is loaded, you may have forgotten to install Risugami's ModLoader, or the Automap mod may not be installed correctly. Try connecting again...
I've verified that .net4 and xna4 are installed, ModLoader is installed. When I play minecraft after installing ModLoader, it works fine. It isn't until I run the AutoMap install that I get those errors. Any ideas? Thanks!
Also, not sure if this helps, but here is my modloader.txt file:

Ok, I feel like a dolt. I ran Minecraft with Administrator Privileges (something I've never had to do before) and it works. Not sure why my permissions are jacked.
Hi. A lot of people have been experiencing this lately. It is crashing because it can't write the log file (in the same place the Minecraft launcher is). If you put the Minecraft launcher somewhere with looser write permission (supposedly the desktop works), you won't need to run as administrator.
If I think of it, I will move the log file to the .minecraft folder in the next Automap update. That should solve the write permission issues. (well, it seems to work for every other mod)
Hi, I've installed Industrail Craft 2 mod, and added ores ID in options, but Automap shows them as a stone. IC2, doesn't have terrain.png only (there are many others texture files, and required ore texture is located in \industrialcraft-2-client_1.97.jar\ic2\sprites\block_0.png). I manualy added ores to terrain.png in minecraft.jar and in Automap folder via PaintNET, but still it doesn't work.
I have been putting off supporting textures for 3rd party blocks in Automap. It would be a huge manual effort (mostly for the person using it) to map each new block ID to a position in a specific image file. I figured almost nobody would use such a feature, so I haven't spent the time on it (you are only the second person I remember asking for that in the nearly two years that Automap has been around).
Anyway, I have pretty much put new Automap features on hold while awaiting the official modding API. Depending on what Mojang does with it, I may be able to add 3rd party texture support then.
I have a possibly stupid or already answered question....
I used to use the low light warning feature with great success. But this seems to not work now. I just get either mostly red maps or shading that seems to not corrospond to anything at all.
I know the light thing is marked as experimental, but it was extremely handy when dropping dozens of torches onto the land. Is it broken for everyone or am I doing it wrong?

It looks like I must have coded it to use the wrong value when I started using MCP to build automap. I will try and remember to fix it for the next Minecraft version which is due out in about a week if I recall.

Install that and the problems should vanish.
Though it might not be compatible with that version of visual studio. I'm not sure.
If you'd like to contribute something, please feel free! You'd be the first.

Fully integrating this into Minecraft would be neat!
