Hey, for all the Linux users who wanted a port, which distro would you like me to test on? If you don't have any specific demands, then I'll just test on the latest version of Ubuntu.
Does this fix 32x32 texture bugs like this project does? I use a mix of stuff I manually zipped together myself, but some of it is higher res. Having the texture fixes and the animations is a nice thing you miss when they don't work. :happy.gif:

Hi, and no, it does not fix the texture bugs. The reason for that is because of what you've just linked: it works great and there is no need for me to re-invent the wheel. Currently you can just apply this fix before running Minecrafter and it will work as expected.
The limitation in my program is that it only supports 32x32 blocks and lower. I was hoping to fix this in conjunction with integration with Xau's program (i.e. running his texture fix before Minecrafter's compilation process), but he was somwhat reluctant to provide Minecrafter hooks to his program. Hopefully he will change his mind in the future.

Ah, didn't realize you could run the program without installing a texture pack. Good to know.
Quick status update: Java port going very well, and I'd expect to see it sometime near the end of next week. This will be with Windows, Mac OS X and Linux support. Note that mod packages made in the C# version will be incompatible with the Java version. That being said, I'll be also discontinuing the C# version, as the Java version is just as capable and more stable, plus it saves me time by supporting only one code base.
I can definitely add some feature to launch external programs in conjunction with Minecraft, doesn't sound hard at all :smile.gif:
On another note, I was thinking of adding some kind of modders support in terms of easily testing out texture packs and the like. I was planning to do some sort of quick mod launch feature, but instead of selecting a zip file, you can select a folder. That way, you can have a folder with all your textures (as you do), then quick mod launch the folder and quickly view textures in-game. Would this appeal anyone?
*Note: Its not an app bundle!! You have to run it from terminal using the following: “java -jar -XstartOnFirstThread Minecrafter_1_1_0_mac[32/64].jar”. This is temporary until I can get someone to help me build an app bundle, or I figure it out myself sooner or later
Ported to Java, and requires at least JRE 1.5 and higher.
Mac OS X and Linux support (tested on Mac OS X 10.6.2 and Ubuntu 10.10) Xau's Texture Fix (automatically applied during launch, and toggle-able in the options tab). Yes, that means if you use HD texture packs, launching using Minecrafter will patch Minecraft automatically! Now you really don't need to fumble with JARs anymore :biggrin.gif:
Whats missing in 1.1.0 (i.e. notable bugs/limitations):
Block selector cursor not transparent in OSes other than Mac - don't ask me why
Not selecting pre-compiled mod (which is off by default) will still be backed up in temp. use the button in options to clear it out if the folder gets big
No app bundle for Mac users - Spent an hour fiddling with Jar bundler and couldn't for the life of me get it working. If someone kind can help me bundle the Mac JARs for me I'll love you forever.
A nice logo (switched to an ingot - pretty snazzy huh?)
No legends - only placed there to use up space, removed because making the UI is painful
Transparency doesn't work on images upscaled/downscaled. This is only for preview so don't worry, it will work in game!
On OSX when I enter the terminal command it says it's unable to access the jar file. And I tried it for the 32 and 64 bit version. I have a second gen 17" macbook pro, OSX version 10.6.4. I also tried dragging the jarfile right into terminal, that didn't work either. It said permission denied, and the files are read and write for all users. Any idea what's going on?

edit: also would it be possible for you to add something to be able to edit MOB spawners? it would be the first program able to do that on mac.

Thanks for your kind words. Really keeps me motivated to work on this more.
For all those with Mac troubles: if you can, copy and paste any error/exceptions that come out. I need the exact info so I can research it further - this is relating to the cannot "unable to access jar file" errors. I have no idea how to replicate this.
@for those who get exceptions (like PanasFANBOY), take a look at the exception more carefully:
This will tell you if you've downloaded the wrong version. From that line, he's downloaded the 32-bit version while having a 64-bit VM. So downloading the 64-bit version will solve the problems.

I currently have no plans to implement any type of inventory/level editor functionality, mainly because it's out of scope for this software. Depends what kind of niche I can carve if I ever look into it. If I can't offer anything special, then I won't implement it.

Beautiful, BUT.. you need to include the Custom Lava/Water fix to make it useful. Once you have that, I'll be using this so much.
Still need to figure out how to get it working. Granted, I'm not exactly sure what custom * changes, but patching it directly with the custom options selected froze Minecraft. Once I do more research, it will definitely be in the next version (with better grass as an option too).
On a Mac note, just saw Apple's keynote about the Mac App Store. If they have any decent support for Java, then hopefully they have wrapper to solve the issues I'm having with app bundles. But don't hold your breath..
EDIT: finally figured it out!! Geez, it seemed that the StartOnMainThread property isn't placed in the right place on the Jar Bundler program, but manually editing Info.plist works. I'll get the Mac app bundle version packaged and uploaded soon. Maybe I'll see if I can squeeze in VM checking code (if even possible) while I'm there.
Wonderfull, it works (64bit). I noticed it created a config file in the directory the app was in, I have not yet really used the tool, beside starting and checking the gui. So not sure if its a good idea, but you could set the working directory to either the inside of the app or well some other path. So that it does not clutter Applications path.
I may however, make Minecrafter support shortcuts, so you can make a shortcut to Minecrafter and specify a mod package so you can just double click the shortcut to launch. Something like that?
Yes! I request this heavily! I'm on OS X right now, but I use all three, and I thank you for giving me the same tool, with the same basic layout on every platform, WITH the native UI toolkits!

:biggrin.gif:. I'm surprised that there was a lot more people who wanted a Linux port than a Mac port (a ratio of like 4:1 or something like that, based on my poll). I'm starting the porting right now, hopefully I can give a rough estimate soon.
I run, as stated earlier, all three, but if I had to choose which one to ask for support on, I'd ask for linux. Everyone has access to it, for free, and it needs more games and game related applications anyway.

And now integrated with Xau's HD Texture Fix! It will be applied automatically when you launch Minecraft using this program :biggrin.gif:
