So i own a copy of minecraft and i have limited access to stuff on my school computer. if i run this off my usb will it be compatible with normal servers and not just cracked ones?
As long as you log in, at a place that lets you get to Minecraft.net and its associated websites (some schools won't let you), you can get in officially and not use cracked servers. But if you can't log in and play multiplayer at school on an online server, I doubt you'll be able to use an offline one instead.
Being a bit OCD, I have to argue with the title, namely "Minecraft on your USB". That part of the title drives me up the wall, as USB is not synonymous with USB flash drive. USB stands for Universal Serial Bus, which is why the bus is called a USB port. A USB port can be used for far more than just plugging in USB flash drives. I'll list a few items that also store significant amounts of data that plug into a USB port as well: smart phones, MP3 players, digital cameras, external hard drives1, memory card readers2, the list goes on. Simply saying "Minecraft on your USB" makes you sound dumb, as well as being misleading if taken literally.
Now, I'll admit, this is a common misconception, but there are many people out there who will cringe at the sight of that comment. As for what you should change? I'd say reword the title with the correct terminology, otherwise you will likely have more people flaming you. Personally, I feel that if you don't know the proper tech terminology, you may not be much good at coding. I'm not saying you need to know everything, I'm simply saying that it's basic knowledge that "USB" refers to a USB port, and anyone who can code a quality program should know that. USB flash drives also often go by the names thumbdrive, flash drive, memory stick, and removable storage. I've probably missed a few names, but the first three a fairly universal, and always safe to use. "removable storage" is a bit more of a localized term, but I included it anyway.
Anyway, that's my rant. Feel free to ignore it as a rant, and nothing more. I am not directly insulting your programming skills, but saying that this issue may lower some people's expectations of the program. I have not used this program, so I cannot say how good or bad it is, but I'm more wary of using it than if that mistake wasn't in the title. Like I said, this was a rant, and I hope I've educated some of the people who read this, but if not, more power to you for already know this.
1. an external hard drive is dramatically different from a USB flash drive, in that USB flash drives are used to transfer data from computer to computer without hassle or drivers, while an external hard drive is much more permanent, in that it usually requires drivers, is not easy to transfer to a different computer properly, and is read by the computer completely differently.
2. the memory card reader doesn't store much data on it's own, but is used as an adapter so that users can easily pull data off memory cards, such as SD cards. Most digital cameras, many mp3 players and even some phones make use of memory cards for their data storage, and this makes it easy to upgrade/increase the data storage in the device, or to have a backup card should something go terribly wrong.
Ok I did exactly as the instructions said, the launcher poped up, I put in my Username and pass,l and it said minecraft is updating. When it was done it went to a black screen then froze there. What am I doing wrong?
That's weird, when I try to open it, it says==== Error loading Python DLL: C:\users\a135\temp\_ME1522\python27.dll (error code 1114)==== and by the way i have Ubuntu 12.04, 64 bit, and to make this more intense I have a partition of windows (So that directory i gave you was the windows directory)
Automatically downloads the launcher, so there's no need to download/update them manually yourself from the site.
but it´s great, that your programm looks, if there is a a minecraft.jar(launcher) already & not update it automatically. Because if you have no problems with a special version, it won´t be updated if you don´t want to. So your text would be better:
"Automatically downloads the launcher, so there's no need to download them manually yourself from the site."
->because the program doesn´t update the launcher, and that´s great i tried it with version 2.6 final. Or just createt a blank file - that wasn´t updated.
Why don´t you integrate the actual launcher to your actual verison? So at school f.e. ^^ you don´t have to get it anywhere else from. And - you don´t have to be afraid, that the new launcher doesn´t work on your system(if you have non launcher downloaded).
does the Force-Update-Functio not work? If not - that would be great.. so i can´t accidently update one version of Minecraft. So write it to the Features
this program is amazing! thanks for making it. im using it to make different versions of my custom client for my custom server, so newbies cant use all the features until they get promoted and i send them the new client.
