You are amazing. This is exactly what I've been looking for, and now I have some idea of how to go about it. For the record: I have a save file on my friend's Macbook, and Minecraft doesn't want to run on my Macbook (Java problem), so I need a way to preserve my save file until I can get my system working again.
um yeah i used it and backed up my saves but now minecraft keeps crashing
Sorry but it's not the fault of Treasurechest as it only copies some stuff around.

Could anybody upload a mirror of the program? I'm not able to download it from Rapidshare
Downloads are online most of the time but it get's really annoying sundays because rapidshare is overloaded (or at least that's what they're trying to tell you). I'm not going to offer mirrors for this version but with v4 I'll promise that I'll provide more download options.

Wow great idea. I mean its not like I know how to copy pasta my Minecraft folder stored in home/appdata/roaming/minecraft.........
Wow, what a great posting. Maybe not everyone likes to copy it by hand. Maybe even some like the idea of repairing corrupt save games or the comfort of managing everything save game related with some simple clicks. It's not that you have to use it. I just don't get some people...
After some requests I decided to change the downloads from rapidshare to my own host. You can now download the program without waiting. The link are on the official TreasureChest page.
And: Yes, I'm still working on version four. I did a quick side project but I'm working 100% on TreasureChest again. Stability increased perfectly and I'm trying to perfect the repair mechanism and add new ones. You'll love it :smile.gif:
So the Halloween update made this program useless (so to say) and i have my backups on here. Please could you make a compatible version (for windows as well) =] It would be appreciated.

Would you be so kind and explain why it's useless now? Tested it yesterday evening and made a wonderful backup of my world including the new realm. Repairing also works great :smile.gif:

I meant no harm when I called it useless lol, it was just my expression for saying it "broke" for me. =P
So my problem was I went to back up my file shortly after upgrading to Minecraft Version 1.2.0_02 because of the bug in Minecraft that when you died you lost all of your items. (he shortly fixed that the morning after the release of the update) But when I went to backup my file the backup completed within no time. I would say less than 20 seconds. Looking back under the description that shows up in the main program it said:
Starting backup of World1 ...
Copied 0 Files (0 Mb) in 47 seconds
Done.
So I tried it two or three more times and it was unsuccessful.I obtained the same message each time. I went and re-downloaded it, and tried one last time. Still no luck. I ended up just making a hard copy backup on my desktop. No biggie.
That was my problem lol. My world still played fine, and in fact had a blast in the Nether/Slip (did lose a few things but nothing I couldn't get back without too much trouble)
I checked again today, and for some reason it works now , but I thought I would report to you the trouble that I was having.
I love this program btw. I have experienced problems with saves before in Minecraft, and had trouble getting them back into proper shape. This just gives me that sense of security lol. I appreciate the Program mucho. =]
"An exception of class NilObjectException was not handled. The application must shut down"
EDIT: Oh never mind, I don't have any saves yet (I cleaned out my .minecraft folder so I don't even have a "Saves" folder. Stupid me, ignore this.
O.k. but that error is still something I have to change. It's kinda uninformative. It should say "You don't have any saves, what do you want to backup?" :tongue.gif:
I've gotten the same error, because somehow my saves magically disappeared. I did, however, back up my main save. Once. Now I want to restore! How do I do that?
EDIT: About two seconds after I posted this, I realized I could make a new game and overwrite it with my backup. It would still be nice to check for backups if there are no saves and offer to restore one of them.

Treasurechest can do this already. Well, at least it should. Thats strange. It's scanning both the savegames and the backups and SHOULD show an empty world with it's backups. If not it should at least give you a repair option which should also bring back your savegame. But your way also works :wink.gif:
Still working on the next version with a lots of improvements. This WILL work 100% the next time. Not sure when I'm finished but I'm trying to get it perfect from the start this time.
I was wondering if you had any plans to make it so you can carry your save from one OS to another. I play on Windows at home, and this program works great for backups, but I play on a Mac in class, and would love to be able to easily pop my save in and play in class, then go home and load my save back up on my Windows PC.
So my power went out when I was playing MC, and my backup battery failed. Now the world I was playing is gone, and treasure chest won't load. The error it gives is: "An exception of class NilObjectException was not handled. The application must shut down."
Holy moses I could've used this for the last 4 days. After the last MC update it's been crashing a lot more lately and I end up respawning in the middle of the ground where I was mining before the crash.
This is awesome, and it's working awesome, but one small tip:
You should add a version number in an 'About' window in the app. It's a standard Mac convention. It also makes it easier to see the version without having to bail to the Finder.
Under the 'TreasureChest' menu, the first item should be 'About TreasureChest'. It can be super simple, just say the current version number. I'd throw in the icon too, but I'm visual.
Thank you so much!

Re-downloaded it, still having the same problem. Probably due to the Halloween update, it worked fine before it.

What can I do to fix this?

Thanks so much for this!

Hope that helps!
Edit: Looked through the thread and saw it's coming in v4. Can't wait.
