It could be odd timing - I'll give you that. But what could cause such an issue beyond changes I ponder?
Dunno, I will say Ive noticed end of stream errors from other since Ive got the wrapper but Im not gonna point any fingers yet. I want to keep this wrapper, its the only one Ive got working on my server. >_ >
It seems whenever we use the Simple Server Wrapper quite a few people including myself get "end of stream" as an error. Most of the time it happens within 5 minutes of joining the server, but sometimes takes ages - any idea?
The "End of Stream" error generally occurs due to one of two issues:
1) There was an error parsing a packet. I think I weeded out of all these issues before RC1, but it was a common problem during development.
2) The server or the client closes the connection due to a lack of data or 'keep-alive'.
The next RC will include a "debug" argument that will enable printing of Exceptions to the console. Most exceptions are suppressed because they are expected; however, some may be valuable to help debug the issue. One thing you can try is changing render distance to normal, instead of far? I'm not sure if it will solve the issue, but at least discrediting that may help me get closer to the real issue ;D
Btw are you running RC2.1 or another version?
Edit: As a side note, RC does stand for "Release Candidate." ;D
Actually, could you guys do me a favor?
Can you post the Specs of your server and the general playing environment?
IE:
Processor/Speed
RAM of computer
Memory setting for server
Hosted at home, or a dedicated/virtual server?
Average number of players
When the errors usually occur?
Processor/Speed: 2.0 Ghz core 2 duo
RAM of computer: 2 Gig
Memory setting for server: 1 Gig
Hosted at home, or a dedicated/virtual server?: Dedicated at home? Im using a separete computer
Average number of players: 4-5ish
When the errors usually occur?: It seems to be random, the end of steam errors just showed up. If I had to wager a guess i would say 5-10 minutes into a game. Although sometimes the players could go hours without dropping. Seems to effect one player in general who lives on the east coast where as my server is hosted on the west coast if that helps.
A few things actually. If you tunnel can you not detect additional / commands? One complaint I have about the other wrapper is all of the spam from it. I don't care if bob joins and is an admin. I don't care if bob typed help. Etc.

Yeah actually the next RC will be cutting down on the spam a bit, since I'll be injecting messages on the stream instead of just wrapping around tell and say.
I don't want to be irrating - your blocking of lava is a godsend to us - but with the current issues with end of stream we won't be able to run it any more. Do you think tonight's RC might have a solution to that?
Possibly. It may also not solve the problem; however, I am including code which will log when EOFExceptions occur, and print them into nice little files I can look through to try and figure out what went wrong.
I'll say it one more time though:
RC means release candidate. IE This is still in testing! Just like minecraft itself, be prepared for some little bugs here and there : P
Yeah I know it's RC - but like I said without this wrapper hosting a server is pointless. because AFAIK no other mod etc can block lava can it? I mean block it really.
MCAdmin can but it has stability problems on linux : P
I think there might be one more? I haven't tried it yet though and it is likely windows only : (
Believe me I'm working quite hard to try to get this issue sorted out, but I just don't have enough data to figure out what's going wrong. That's why I added a possible fix AND added some "catch" code to dump out the data I need to figure out what's going wrong. It's certainly possible that I messed up somewhere, and I'm just trying to find out where. : P
If either of you want to test the next RC tonight before I release it, could you send me a PM?
I'm going to put it up on the forums at around 11 EST if neither of you reply : P

hey0's mod can block the placement of blacklisted blocks.

Here's the proposed changelog for RC3
Server now injects messages to users, instead of wrapping around "tell" command
Attempted fix to "End of Stream" errors
Added EOFException dump class. End of Stream errors should generate a dump file. Files will begin with "dump_"
Enabled using "debug" argument.
Added message to !kick and !ban
Added save-all before backup is started.
Added optional "debug" argument to launch
java -jar SimpleServer.jar debug

Like it runs server commands from in-game?
Might be insecure, idk...
