I don't really understand what I'm doing wrong. I cannot for the life of me figure out how to open a level.
I have MCEdit Alpha 94, Minecraft Beta 1.3.01, and am using Windows 7 x64 bit.
I open MCEdit and see no worlds available for opening. I press the Open button and browse to my save folder (by typing in %appdata% in the bar) and see my world folders. I double click the folder and inside are:
A folder named Region with various .mcr files. (7.81 MB)
A file named level.dat. (1 KB)
A file named level.dat_old. (1 KB)
A file named session.lock. (1 KB)
While in the MCEdit "Open" window, I can only see the Region folder and the level.dat file. When I open the Region folder, I can see no files inside of it. Attempting to open level.dat just creates an absolutely blank world in MCEdit.
Do I have the wrong version of something? Am I navigating to the wrong files? I'm stumped!
I use "MCEdit Alpha 94 [Updated Mar 23] (Beta 1.3 Compatible!)" in WinXP and running the MC server on Linux.. I have a friend that built a huge redstone calculator and I try to move it to a different location.. However, after deleting/clearing the calculator and save (even before I attempt to put in the schematic of the new calculator), I get lots of errors saying "[INFO] Attempted to place a tile entity where there was no entity tile!", I get about twenty of these errors and are unable to connect to the server.. So just by removing blocks with redstone on them, or redstone torches.. I get this error (I removed the redstone too ofc.)..!
Nice! Now I can quickly remove mistakes when speckling smooth stone walls with cobblestone and mossy cobblestone (when the mouse accidentally selects a corner edge and places the block in the air instead of inside another block when "Surface" is unchecked in the Brush tool.) Oh wow, I just found out that when you are inside the selection box you can't click on anything except the walls of the selection box....luckily Ctrl-D deselects. lol
However, in Alpha 94 64-bit, I've noticed that when you click on any side of the selection wall there will often times be a flash of another view. Here is an example of what it looks like (mad printscreen mashing to get the bottom pic). The upper pic is the normal view that I have moved the camera to. The bottom view is what flashes quickly when I click on the side of the selection box. It seems to do this anywhere with any size selection box. This doesn't seem to harm anything, does not last more than a few milliseconds, but it is a bit annoying.
Another thing is how the Brush tool and Chunk Redraw function while in the mode that does not move your view around while moving the mouse. I can use the Brush tool as many times as I like and the Chunk Redraw will not redraw (chunks stay red) and show the changes until after I right-click to enter the mode where you can move your camera view around with the mouse. This makes it a bit awkward to do many edits with the Brush tool. I'm not sure when this started, I think around version 92 or slightly prior to that. All other tools seem to update the chuck properly and instantly regardless of the right-click view/movement mode.
EDIT: The problem with the Chunk Redraw seems to be tied directly to the angle of the view. If the camera is angled from the horizon down it has this problem. When looking from the horizon up, with the camera, it does not have this problem. Just 1-2 blocks angled down from the horizon seems to slow down the Chunk Redraw while 3+ blocks down stops it completely until the view angle changes. This seems to happen differently when you have circled around to a different side of the same chunk. It is definitely view position related. Weird.

I've had this problem and it seems like it worked better after shrinking my MCEdit window a little bit -- in fact, the entire program seems to work a lot better when the window is smaller. I've had MCEdit crash and do weird things when in fullscreen. So, I always keep the window size moderate.

My god, I tried resizing the window and the program goes completely wonky. I can't test your fix for it with that method.
If I make he window smaller, nothing resizes inside the window. Instead, it stays the same size and sometimes repositions tools and stuff off the edges of the window where I can't access them. Then when I make the window full screen, the entire active content of the window becomes small and...well, this pic explains what it looks like
Top image is the smaller size window while I'm pressing Ctrl for the menu. You can't see all the Ctrl menu options.
Bottom image is making the window full screen after that. It stays the same size inside the window and leaves those empty black areas. Note the location of my mouse cursor. It is controlling the size of the selection box in that pic; it is offset. I can't click on "Ok" for dialog boxes that pop up because it is like the mouse cursor location is "ghosting" 2 inches below where it shows the cursor to be. Closing and opening the program fixes this problem; I just can't be playing around with the window size.

Mine handles resizing fine. I have Windows 7 64bit (and 64bit version of MCEdit). I use the Windows 7 theme. Why are you running at such low resolution?
It is the best resolution for a 17" CRT. MCEdit is wonky in all resolutions on this setup. At 1280 x 1024 max res for this monitor MCEdit only shows about half the screen most of the time in smaller windows.
Noob here, trying to make some adventures for my kids on a server I run for them.
Two problems I am having.
1-How do I place different mob spawners? So far the only one it lets me place is the pig spawner.
2-when i leave a water or lava block with a free side, so that it should flow, when the map loads up it doesn't flow into the adjoining blocks as it should.

Game has to detect block changes next to the water that happen while the game is running, in order to update water flow.

It sounds like you are making maps for SMP, right? Mob spawners that have any light near them in SMP seem to turn into pig spawners with pigs that can not be killed. So, if your spawners are making pigs then there might be light near them?
When I place water blocks in MCEdit, I always surround the block with fire blocks so the fire will die out when I enter the world. It updates the water block and allows it to flow. Of course, you can't have anything flammable near the fire blocks when doing this.
I have been using MCEdit for months now, and LOVE IT. only one problem i just discovered:
.lvl files are crazy looking when opened. I tried converting it to a dat, but that did not work. in the level, it is a
256x256x256 map that is empty of grass or stone and just a hole of adminium. it has a coliseum in it, plus a few other buildings. is there a way to efficiently convert it .lvl a .dat? Can an update be released opening .lvls? is there a way to open them? thanks for any help!
Running into a problem. Everything is working great except for the "set spawn point" feature. I set it and everything looks good but then when i die and respawn its putting me somewhere completely different. I am attempting to set my spawn in an enclosed structure . . . . could that have anything to do with it?
I try the next step but when it comes to opening mcedit.sh I get this -

You need the right MCEdit version for OS X 10.5.8: Download MCEdit-alpha85-linux.tgz and unpack it, then do:
cd ~/Downloads/MCEdit-linux
./mcedit.sh
I tried installing Mcedit and it did not work. I have tried to install it multiple times and have gotten the same error as above. I have also tried using MCEdit-alpha85 but this too has not worked. I'm running the same specs as the poster in quote. Any help would be nice. Thanks in advance.
I have a really good idea for MCEDIT!!!!!
When i could program, i had do it xDxD
My idea is, that we can upload a picture into mc edit and pixel it.
Then MCEdit can choose the nearest color of pixels and is making a
building of this picture. Please note my idea :smile.gif:)
Regards
Daniel
You can do something similar with omen. use file > import png (or 'from' png i dont remember, but it doesnt matter)
and then use it. you just have to make sure that the map is the samde dimensions as the picture, and it only works in classic, which are the two biggest downsides.

changing it to be like this makes it work regardless of the current directory
and the addition of exec also makes it more resource-effecient.
Removing the current directory requirement makes it easier to create a Desktop file (GUI launcher) for it.
