Well, that is a mcedit 2 screenshot, which is still under early development. You should try the 1.x series if it's not working for you.
My suggestion is to open the schematic as a world and save it, if you want it to be flatland specifically you could try the same thing you did before on mcedit 1.x.
Also to convert a really old world in MC you need to open it with progressively newer versions, the world converters are only in specific MC versions. Just doing major versions (1.2->1.3->1.4) should be pretty safe.
What I ended up doing is installing Forge as well as Worldedit (Forge version) on my Single Player Minecraft. I added the schematic into the appropriate schematic folder. Then, I loaded up minecraft creating a new flatland world. Finally, using commands I was able to load and paste my schematic. I saved the world and copied the world into my Multiplayer Server.
Look I'm having a serious problem and I don't know what to do. MC edit keeps crashing whenever I try to save after pasting something into my world. I NEED A FIX, please do not ignore this. I don't know where to find the crash report and I don't know what keeps causing this.
The world that is crashing uses mods like Custom NPC, Better Builders Wands, Simply Addons and Mr. Crayfish Furniture Mod.Please help because I can't do ANYTHING in my world until this is fixed.
Everytime i try to save after pasting, MCedit crashes for me for both versions. That is why I did the following steps above. I guess it wouldn't help with your situation tho
### Hotfix
* Fixed error trying to open pocket worlds
* Fixed crash in chunk view
* Fixed log rotations not working
* Fixed title translations
* Fixed issue with translations when using Forester and Create Shops filters
### Enhancements
* Scrollbars are more reactive
* Very small scroll bars can now be dragged
OH THANK YOU GOD! I don't know what it was you did but it work. Thank you so much, I can finally go back to work on my RTS Build.
UPDATE: Nope... scratch that... it work for like a second but the moment I tried to save after pasting a building it died. Sorry, I don't know where the crash error report is, otherwise I would post it here for you.
Second Update: Upon further inspection, it seems to have something to do with the Blocks from Custom NPC, or at least one of the light blocks. I'll investigate further there.

I am unable to get to the download page for MCEdit 1.
Whenever I try I get a DNS failed to resolve error. Do you have a mirror link?
So this may be the wrong place to ask but i need help. i have an older world that i updated, when i did so all the chests in the world vanished, the first thing i did was open it in MCEdit to attempt to rectify it. the tile entity is intact but the block itself seems to have been replaced with ID:54 (should be 54:2)
as you can imagine all your chests vanishing is a bit upsetting so any help is nice help
here is a schematic containing two of the affected chests Link

If you updated using Minecraft you likely skipped the version that updated the chests properly, if you have a backup that'd be the way to do it. If not try putting the correct chests in those locations and saving, if you're lucky the nbt data will apply to the chests.
Also Kojla, we'd need more information. Current MCEdit 1.x versions don't even come in .zip files unless you're on OSX.
Anyway. New version that should fix a bunch of bugs, including crashes relating to eastern languages. The download link now points to a more reliable host.
* Added improved time editor to world information panel
* Added `Legacy Mode` for the `Create Shops` filter for compatibility with 1.8.X and 1.9.X
* Tool option panels can now be closed with the `ESC` key
* Added `The Void` to the `Set Biomes` filter
* Added many new block textures for PE
* Added some missing pocket entities
### Bug Fixes
* Fixed key error in pocket worlds containing unknown entities
* Fixed redstone repeaters giving off light
* Fixed `PlayerCache instance has no attribute '_cache' error
* Fixed crash on startup when user language uses non ASCII characters
* Fixed crash on startup when launching from non-latin directories under Windows
* Fixed error message not being displayed due to codepage issues
* Fixed crash when holding W and pressing Ctrl in certain circumstances
* Fixed cache error on close
* Fixed crash on case-sensitive OSX systems
* Fixed issue with signs getting erased after the world had been loading in minecraft
* Added missing labels to clone tool
### Changed
* Tool options are now translated on the fly
* Added better bullet handling for the internal NBT editor

i'll give it a shot, it was a 1.7 world to 1.9
on a side note is it normal that MCEDIT directs me to download and reinstall rather than just updating?
That is normal as the different versions (Linux, OSX, and Windows) all use different compilers(or lack thereof) so having something automatic is a bit tricky when they all work somewhat differently at the base level.

good to know. it really is only a couple more steps on my end but i wouldn't think it would be THAT hard on windows/linux as it just has to clone the remote repository to it's current location and both can do that from a terminal. not sure if mac can though. correct me if i am wrong
It doesn't run from raw source except on linux, so it would have to download the newest release, start the extraction and close itself (so the files can be overwritten), then restart itself afterwards, not a simple process especially with all 3 having different packaging methods and it being in python. There are libraries that can do this but they only work with 1 compiler generally.

i did something similar on windows using batch once... i'll have a look around and see if i can find a way to cleanly unzip files using native windows features... what compression algorithm do you use?
edit: looking at it further i see you set them up as self extracting archives
Yeah, we were having problems with people running the program from within the zip so windows was switched to Winrar's SFX system. Mac uses standard zips, and Linux uses .run files.

so the script i made can sucesfully install MCEDIT with auto detection for 32/64 bit. just having a bit of trouble making it pull the installer from github in batch
I've been using MCEdit on my Minecraft PE maps for a while and I've come across some lighting bugs that are unfixable. Whenever I edit the world in question, giant dark splotches appear at the edge of one side of the world, and the dark splotches grow when I place blocks in the general vicinity of the area.
I've also tried using MCEdit's relight chunks function, and although it works temporarily in removing the giant splotches of darkness, it always comes back, and additionally, creates giant dark areas on half slabs in the chunks where lighting has been relighted. It's fixable with glowstone, but a hassle.
Is there anyway to fix the lighting of the map and remove the lighting glitches? Thanks in advance!

Try the newest release, hopefully that should be fixed along with the pocket loading problem and some other things.

Are you using Windows? if so did you get the 32bit or the 64 bit? have you tried deleting MCEdit entirely and reinstalling?

You might want to post on a different forum. These are the ones to do with MCedit.
