I feel like an idiot... I can't figure out how to make this work. I got as far as downloading Python than just sat thinking "What do I do now?" I used the guide thing at the beginning but still failed.
Hey, Dudecon, I heard Notch temporarily switched out the tree code for the old one. Do you know if he's working on something special with the trees? O:

Yes, he's turned them off because they take longer to generate than the "old" trees. It's a performance issue at this point. There is some effort going into upgrading the feature superclass (used right now for caves), which could also facilitate huge trees, up to 128 blocks wide, and as tall as the map. I know he is planning on putting the "new" trees back in eventually, perhaps with some optimizations to make them run faster, and the new branch block type.

Okay dudes I just got this game a while back and I stumbled across this forester thing. This looks amazingly awesome and makes me want to cry, but it won't work for me. I'm not exactly the most tech-savvy person so it's probably just a dumb mistake but here's what happens:
So I start with my .mclevel file in a folder, then I put forester.py in the same folder and run the script. it works until it comes up with an error message saying "TypeError: expected an object with the buffer interface"
I'm playing on Alpha, so is that the problem?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Alas cruel fate, i was looking for a tree tool and saw this thread and thought i found the answer to my prayers
but i remembered it from long ago, meaning it was too old to work :tongue.gif:
At hokihumby :
Simply, i dont think this can work with the current version of minecraft
because it says:
Only works on .mclevel files.
there is/are no .mclevel file(s) in Alpha :tongue.gif:
I got a question:
I'm working on a map at the moment, and if I install, this would it spawn trees or redo trees I've placed? Or does it just grow from saplings?

Well my problem isn't really running the map/level. It's applying the actual script itself to a .mclevel file that I have already created using Omen.
ah
i got this to work once too :/ so i know it works
so the answer to this:

This looks epic!

is it redos all trees i believe
back to the question of how to get it to work
you followed the instructions i assume?
is there anything else that pops up when it crashes? or the "TypeError: expected an object with the buffer interface" the only thing?
Hey guys. No updates since almost six months ago? Yeah, life's been busy. When I started this project I was only working 10 hours a week. Now I'm working full time (praise God!) which cuts into my free hours (aww...).
Notch has explicitly said that he is going to change the file format again to reduce the number of files. Therefore, I'm not planning on updating this script to work with the current Alpha file format. It would be a lot of work, and then I'd have to do it over again once he finalizes the format.
However, I am definitely planning on writing a server extension, as soon as Notch gets the extension API nailed down. Unless someone else beats me to it, that is.
OK so...does anyone mind like spelling this out for a complete computer idiot? I would really appreciate it, something easy to follow, step by step. Running windows 7. Someone went over it in a simple step - by - step manner, but it was still like greek to me. I know I'm dumb :sad.gif:

Cool, I hoped it was something like that. Thanks!

Redownloaded the script
ran it with no errors, though it is taking a long time
so im not sure, maybe post the .mclevel?

Also i believe you can use MCedit to move .mclevel parts or whole levels into Alpha maps
Just a tip for ya'll
It can still work though, just takes a little more effort then normal
