Howdy there folks! It's not often I use the Minecraft Forums, but after diving into alternate timeline mods for Beta/Alpha + Indev versions I got the motivation to make my own and decided to upload the initial release here, this mod is mostly inspired by SamMaddie's Back2Beta mod, great mod btw.
So, what is this mod about?
Well to put it bluntly, this is essentially my own take of how the game could've progressed with it's original survival sandbox before Beta 1.8/1.9 and release 1.0 came around which added a lot of things I'm sure everyone is familiar with, Hunger, Enchanting, Ender Dragon, etc, my mod is aimed to stay away from any of that, just keeping the game to it's pure survival sandbox the previous versions were known for.
What is this mod's goal?
This mod is essentially meant to be my preferred version of the game with features that I feel should've been added, now granted, Modern Minecraft does add some nice features that I wish were in beta, so this mod will also be backporting some features from Modern Minecraft whilst adding some unique features of it's own overtime.
Why did you make this?
Well for me personally, with the state Modern Minecraft is in now I can never feel motivated to keep a long-term world going due to factors like Enchanting, Elytra's, Progression in general etc, granted, all of these are technically optional, but at the same time, you do feel sort of pressured into eventually doing them, Enchantments especially.
Is it compatible with other mods?
Unfortunately no, due to the many changes this mod makes internally it is highly unlikely that other Beta 1.7.3 mods will work with this.
What are the current mod features?
The current features of the mod are pretty small at the moment, but will hopefully continue to expand further.
Version 1.7.4 has the current features listed in the spoiler below:
Initial release 1.7.4 changelog:
Features: Concrete + Concrete Powder from 1.12, functions the same way as it does in 1.12 and has the same crafting recipe for each color, also has a new QoL tweak that allows Concrete Powder items dropped in water to harden instantly.
Backported Nether Bricks along with the stair and fence variants, Nether Bricks can be obtained by smelting Netherrack in a furnace. Backported 1.16's Nether Gold Ore, drops Gold Nuggets when broken, can be found throughout the Nether.
Backported various inventory mouse tweaks from the Modern Game, such as drag clicking, shift clicking to equip armor, etc. Backported Stone Bricks from Beta 1.8, regular Stone Bricks are made from 4 stone, Mossy Stone Bricks are acquired by combining Vines with Stone Bricks, and Cracked Stone Bricks are obtained by smelting Stone Bricks in a furnace, Chiseled Stone Bricks are also backported but currently inaccessible without modifying your inventory.
Backported additional stair types, Stone Brick Stairs, Brick Stairs and Sandstone Stairs along with Mossy Cobblestone Stairs.
Backported Cave Spiders, function the same way as regular spiders, just smaller and don't inflict Poison, Dungeons have a small chance of containing a Cave Spider Spawner.
Cobwebs drop from Spiders.
Rain Forest biome modified to spawn in Release 1.2.5's Jungle Features, this also backports Jungle Logs, Jungle Leaves, Jungle Saplings and Vines respectively.
Backported Tall Mushrooms from Beta 1.8, you can use bonemeal on mushrooms to grow them into tall ones, this obviously also backports the mushroom related blocks, all of them can be obtained by simply breaking them.
Backported Upside down stairs and slabs, additionally, slab blocks can be placed sideways *Vertical Slabs*
Backported Raw Beef and Cooked beef, Cooked Porkchops use their Beta 1.8 texture due to this.
Backported Raw Chicken and Cooked Chicken.
Backported Sea Lanterns, currently inaccessible.
Brightness option setting added.
Game Changes:
Cobblestone and Brick textures use their pre-beta-1.7 versions.
Glass Blocks drop themselves when broken.
Gold Tools have been updated to be more useful, they now have 761 durability and have been upgraded to Stone Tool tier, they are also much faster at breaking blocks, additionally, Gold Ore can be broken with Stone Tools now, Gold Tools also have updated textures.
Oak Leaves have a chance of dropping Apples.
Sponges have regained their water absorbing ability and can be rarely obtained via fishing.
Stair recipes have been changed to give 6 stairs instead of 4.
Bricks when crafted now give 4 bricks instead of 1.
Mossy Cobblestone can be crafted by combining Cobblestone and Vines together.
Build Height increased to 256 from 127, the terrain generator has also been slightly adjusted to allow terrain to go just above Y 127, no more trees getting cut off at build limit
Block ID limit increased from 256 to 4096.
Terrain.png and Items.png ditched completely in favor of release 1.5's texture loading system, if you want to make a texture pack then you'll need to make it in similar vein to how texture packs are made for release 1.5
Backported Lava's faster flow mechanic in the Nether from 1.5, it also spreads further in the Nether.
Unused Ice Deserts biome re-enabled.
F3 Menu updated to include some more information, such as the world seed, day counter and what biome you're in.
Bug Fixes:
Farmland is no longer trampled on by just walking on it, no more shift to replace seeds!
Fixed not being able to place fences without a block under them.
Fixed the annoying whirlpool bug, A.K.A Flowing water not converting to source blocks if it's on water.
Fixed the issue with Flowing Lava not receding properly if it's source block is destroyed/moved.
Fixed Cave generation getting cut off at chunk borders quite frequently.
Fixed water's top texture being invisible under Ice.
Fixed many blocks not breaking fast enough when the right tool is equipped, Fences, Redstone ore, Furnaces, Crafting table's etc.
Food is no longer consumed at full health.
Special thanks to Birevan from the Modification Station discord for implementing 4096 Block ID's, 256 World height along with adding 1.5's texture loading system along with some other changes

Version beta 1.7.4_01.
Version 1.7.4_01 Changelog below:
Download: Get version 1.7.4_02 instead, this version and the initial release version are bugged and crash on java 8.
Bug Fixes: Fixed all other log types using Oak log's side texture.
Known bugs: Same as before, use version Beta 1.7.4_02!
Changes: Changed the top texture for all the log variants to their intended textures rather than re-using oak log's top texture.
Disabled debug code for placing beds with F4.
Fixes:
Fixed Acacia leaves not decaying.
Fixed Ghast's fireball sound not playing in Multiplayer, same goes for blazes.
Fix Skeleton's bow firing sound not playing in Multiplayer.
Backported Soul Fire from 1.16 Added Reinforced variants of Axes, Shovels + Pickaxes for Iron, Gold and Diamond. These are this mod's version of the Unbreaking enchantment, the reinforced tool variants are the same as their normal versions, with only their durability being increased. The durability of each reinforced tool tier is as follows: Iron = 650, Gold = 1024, Diamond = 2341. ^^^ Crafting said tools will require a fresh tool each that has not had any durability used, attempting to use a tool that's used some durability will not work. Each tool can be crafted with a respective tool in the center of the crafting grid and a Bedrock Chunk on each side.
Backported Ravine generation from Beta 1.8 Added Unstable Bedrock Bricks, can be crafted the same way as Stone Bricks via the new Unstable Bedrock Brick item dropped from Unstable Bedrock. Backported Prismarine/Prismarine bricks from 1.8, along with Prismarine Crystals + Shards. Added Soul Stone + Soul Stone Bricks. Soul Stone can be made via smelting Soul Sand in a furnace + Soul Stone Bricks can be made by combining 4 Soul Stone together. Backported Rotten Flesh from Beta 1.8, eating will decrease your health rather than healing, eating with less than 2 hearts left will kill you. Backported Red Nether Bricks and it's variants, added Red Nether Brick Fences alongside it. Red Nether Bricks can be crafted by surrounding regular Nether Bricks with Red Dye. Sea Lanterns are now accessible due to the introduction of Prismarine Crystals/Shards.
Changes:
Gold tool durability decreased to 512 from 761. Iron tool durability has been buffed slightly, 325 total uses compared to 250. Changed the Dream Light Obelisk recipe to use Lapis Lazuli instead of Diamonds. Unstable Bedrock can now be destroyed, which will yield Bedrock chunks rarely, used for making the reinforced tools. Unstable Bedrock is still immune to explosions however. Changed several items in the Nether Dungeon chest loot: String has been replaced with Glowstone Dust, Wheat has been replaced with Obsidian, Bread has been replaced with Mushroom Stew. Changed Charcoal's texture to it's modern version instead of re-using Coal's texture. Bows are now rendered properly in third person. Skeleton's now use their arm positions from Beta 1.8 to match with Bow handling. Ghast spawn rate reduced, the Nether should no longer be filled with Ghast's constantly. Crafting signs now yields 3 instead of 1. Changed the cobblestone platform generated with the bed teleporting function in the Skylands to be 5x5, instead of 3x3. Teleporting to the skylands will now position you on top of the bed rather than clipping inside of it, this should hopefully mitigate any potential issues of falling through the cobblestone platform and immediately falling into the void. Removed all files/code related to Glass Panes and Iron Bars due to bugs whilst backporting them, may attempt to backport them again at a later date. Zombies now drop Rotten Flesh instead of Feathers. Zombie Pigmen now drop Rotten Flesh instead of Cooked Porkchops. With the introduction of Prismarine Shards/Crystals, Fishing now has a chance to reel them in alongside the existing loot pool with Sponges and Fish. /list is now usable by non-opped players on servers.
Fixes:
Fixed Redstone blocks missing their tooltip in the inventory. Fixed Blazes not dropping 2-4 Glowstone Dust as intended. Fixed a bug in which sleeping in the skylands to return to the overworld would often immediately send you back to the skylands. Fixed Fishing loot missing Sponges in Singleplayer.
Added Soul Fire smelting to furnaces, Soul Sand can be used as a fuel source to smelt items at a quicker rate than regular smelting. Added durability info to all items with durability in their tooltips, number changes color as durability gets lower. Added the unused Paeonia, an unused flower that was meant to be added in release 1.7.2 Added 1.16's Nether Brick Sounds, both nether bricks and red nether bricks now use the appropriate sounds. Added the Flower Forest from release 1.7.2. Added all the single flower types from release 1.7.2, they can be found in the Flower Forest biome. Added Nether Fortresses from release 1.0.0, Nether Dungeons will remain as is and can still be found throughout the nether. Added Nether Wart plants. Added the FOV slider option.
Changes:
Unstable Bedrock is now referred to as Adminium, Updated Moss stone and Moss Stone stairs to use their modern tooltip name. Updated all Wood Logs to have their correct tooltip name depending on the log, Birch Log, Oak log, etc. Updated the wall Sign models to fix an obvious gap behind them and the block they are placed on. Renamed the Ice Desert's biome name in F3 to Polar Desert. Changed the Oak Sapling texture to it's 1.2.1 version. Changed the skylands <--> overworld teleportation sound to a higher pitched nether portal travel sound. Updated Fence collision + hitbox to their modern version from release 1.0.0 Fences now also connect to other solid blocks and not just fences, same behavior as release 1.0.0 Updated the Savanna biome to generate tall grass Updated the textures for Soul Stone + Soul Stone Bricks, Adminium Bricks and Adminium Chunk Thanks Critfish! Updated the Crying Obsidian texture, thanks Hazel! Disabled the nightmare mechanic for beds entirely, mobs will no longer wake you up when trying to sleep. Nether Wart has now been assigned an item ID. Rotten Flesh can be smelted in a furnace for Leather. Changed the Red Nether Bricks recipe to use Nether Wart instead of Red Dye.
Fixes:
Fixed missing tooltips for several items/blocks Fixed the player's arm distorting into a weird position when riding entities. Fixed a duplicate sound playing when traveling to the skylands from the overworld. Fixed Water and Lava lakes being able to generate on Ice blocks.
Added the ability to place fences that don't connect to blocks, simply shift while placing fences and they won't connect to blocks but will still connect to other fences. Added Soul Sand Stone, credit to Critfish for the texture! Added Soul Fire blazes, nasty versions of Blazes who you really don't want to be set on fire from. Thanks Critfish for the texture! Added the ability to toggle sneak, pressing shift once keeps you in the sneak position without having to hold the shift key, pressing it again will un-sneak you. Opening any containers + your inventory and pausing the game will un-sneak you. Added Creeper spawners to dungeons, these are far rarer than the normal mobs normally found in dungeons. Added a new biome known as the Alpha Lands, a cameo to Minecraft's early Alpha's with the classic bright green neon grass and trees. This biome generates exclusively in the Skylands and not the overworld. Added a visual indicator for slab placements to make their placement less confusing due to sideways and upside down slabs, when holding any slab in your hand, a visual indicator will appear on the block your facing showing where the slab will be placed and in what position. Added a seasonal change to the mod, during December 1st to the 31st the main menu buttons will change into icy variants, the mod version on the top left will also pulsate slowly between white, red and green, the main colors of Christmas Backported Blaze Powder, blazes will drop 1-2 blaze powder upon death alongside their current glowstone dust drop. Blaze powder can be used as a fuel source in furances as a cheaper alternative to coal but don't last as long as coal does. Enabled Soul Fire smelting in furnaces for servers. Added a soul fire variant of Blaze Powder, dropped from Soul Fire Blazes.
Changes:
Cobwebs now drop themselves when broken with shears. Spawners with Slimes now function. Dungeons found in the Skylands now have a chance of containing a Slime spawner. Bone Mealing grass now generates the other flowers. Cave Spider dungeons are now much more common. Changed all stonebrick textures contrast slightly to better fit with Beta's crunchy aesthetic Backported Beta 1.8's change of adding snouts to the pig model. Ice no longer turns into water in the Nether whether it's broken normally or melted via light. Ice can now be crafted by condensing 9 snow blocks in a crafting table. Snowballs can now be stacked up to 64 instead of 16. Golden Apples are no longer craftable. Blocks destroyed by explosions will now drop 100% of the time, rather than 30% Soul Smelting now uses Soul Blaze Powder instead of Soul Sand.
Fixes:
Fixed Shears not taking durability damage when shearing vines. Fixed Soul Fire player burning not persisting across world save/loads. Fixed Savanna biomes in the Skylands missing tall grass generation. Fixed Flower Forest biome missing it's tree and flower generation in the Skylands. Fixed the FOV slider causing the player's hand to also stretch, now the hand will always render at a fixed 70° FOV regardless of the setting. Hopefully fixed a bug with Oak Leaves rarely dropping Acacia Saplings.
Added the missing stair variants of Soul Stone, Soul Stone Bricks, Adminium Bricks, Soul Sandstone, Prismarine, Prismarine Bricks and Dark Prismarine. Slabs will come eventually. Backported Dark Prismarine, crafted the same way as modern using 8 prismarine shards and 1 ink sac, gives 8 dark prismarine instead of 1 however.
Changes:
Nether Dungeons now have a 50/50 chance of either being a blaze or soul blaze spawner. This also fixes server side nether dungeons always containing a soul blaze spawner. Sandstone and Soul Sandstone recipes now give 4 of their respective block instead of 1.
Fixes:
Fixed shovels not being effective against Alpha Grass. Fixed Acacia log's tooltip showing as Oak Log. Fixed a merging bug related to stonebricks and it's variants. Fixed Nether Dungeons still using their existing spawner list of just blazes in singleplayer.
Known issues:
Mushroom stems/caps have their tooltips incorrectly list them as Birch/Jungle logs.
If you are interested then please feel free to check the mod out
Using MultiMC is highly recommended to install this mod! If you're unfamiliar with how to install MultiMC instances then simply drag the .zip file you've downloaded into MultiMC's main window and a new window will come up to import the .zip as a new instance, simply click ok. Very easy

Frozen's Better Beta 1.7.7_01 MultiMC Instance
Version Beta 1.7.8
Version Beta 1.7.8 changelog:
Addtions:
Added a seasonal change to the mod, during December 1st to the 31st the main menu buttons will change into icy variants, the mod version on the top left will also pulsate slowly between white, red and green, the main colors of Christmas
Backported Blaze Powder, blazes will drop 1-2 blaze powder upon death alongside their current glowstone dust drop.
Changed all stonebrick textures contrast slightly to better fit with Beta's crunchy aesthetic
Backported Beta 1.8's change of adding snouts to the pig model.
Ice no longer turns into water in the Nether whether it's broken normally or melted via light.
Ice can now be crafted by condensing 9 snow blocks in a crafting table.
Snowballs can now be stacked up to 64 instead of 16.
Golden Apples are no longer craftable.
Blocks destroyed by explosions will now drop 100% of the time, rather than 30%
Soul Smelting now uses Soul Blaze Powder instead of Soul Sand.
Frozen's Better Beta 1.7.8 MultiMC Instance
Version Beta 1.7.8_01
Version Beta 1.7.8_01 changelog:
