This mod is all about realistic wood for a more challenging early survival stages of the game. Recipes for vanilla work bench, wood slabs, and plank blocks will be disabled.
Features:
- Ability to use an axe to chop your logs all the way down to working materials.
- In world crafting. Place planks to create a pattern, use wooden stakes and a hammer to create the desired wooden vanilla blocks.
- Directional blocks. Useful for decoration.
- Ability to store planks in Piles.
- Available in all vanilla colors.
Think you can just survive by punching trees and making a quick house? Think again. Entities can't collide with my blocks so mobs will go right through them unless you have gone through all the steps to get your vanilla wooden blocks to keep them out. An unfinished fortress will just not do.
Planned:
- Tables (Maybe)
- Chairs (Maybe)
- Adding more wooden vanilla blocks to the mod
I have a working proof of concept but there is only 1 wood type enabled at the moment. Still getting my ideas together to see which direction this mod will take.
I decided to change it up and keep it simple. I hate when mods start to get over-complicated. This mod will basically now make it a little more difficult to craft planks, which means it will take a little longer to get them crafted by having to cut down logs into individual plank pieces to then craft a plank block.
I think that should be a good start.
Will be renamed to 'Harder Wood Mod'
Oh and I got slightly better textures. I finally figured out a way to make the planks stack correctly in formations such as that mod that allows you to stack ingots ( forgot the name ).
Planning to use the sideways log cuts for parts to assemble the crafting bench, trap doors, and some other blocks. Each log still yields enough materials for x4 plank blocks just as in vanilla. Later will use planks to assemble other things too.
Damn that took some time. I'm a noob texturer, so I had to figure out how to make the textures I was given permission to use work so that the planks looked like they were stacking. I will use the progression and textures as templates for all other woods.
Techne only allows 16x16 textures, and I finally figured that I could enlarge my 16x16 to 32x32, then add detail, and it still works!
Finished establishing my wood system, fixed bugs, and now I'm adding the vanilla colors with all other vanilla woods. I wanna rename this mod to something more fitting.
After all that is done I will then work on the in-world crafting system with stakes, hammers, and all that good stuff.
Not anymore. I had an idea but it would over complicate things. I'm staying focused around wood, and world crafting. Basically a carpentry mod where you get to actually craft things, not just place assorted blocks on the crafting bench to magically craft your stuff.
It should. The vanilla wood planks have not been modified in anyway. Whatever recipe uses them will still be able to use them. Now if there are mods that add their own plank pieces (not blocks), I could try and see what I can depending on how said mod is balanced.
Chisel I'm not sure. I havent played chisel much. I have to see what would need to be compatible.
This mod looks great! I'm excited to try it out and I know one of my friends will love it as he's studying carpentry. It sounds like it would fit in perfectly with the mega-mod I suggested yesterday. If only I knew how to make mods...
Cool I will also be making a clay mod which will allow you to bake in-world pots for gathering water early in game with no iron, storing things, and more. I also plan to make a metal working part with actual metal processing (heating, shaping, smelting). I'm trying to decide if I wanna make it all into a gigantic mod or just make it into modules. It will have compatibility with tinkers and stuff.

I like the sound of all of that! Seems like our ideals are very much aligned! Be sure to check out some the ideas I suggested in my thread if you consider making a metal processing mod. My ideas are more focused towards the mining and processing of the ore before smelting, but they would fit in perfectly with your ideas of making realistic smelting and forging. I would highly suggest it all be made modular so people can pick and choose which parts they want. Also, having a core file that everything requires would be helpful, I imagine.
If you're willing to help me, I'll be more than happy to start learning how I can help with the development! I've had experience with writing Java, just never kept it going and I'm not familiar with Minecraft's code specifically.
Thanks! I will keep that in mind. I definitely read your post. I will go back to it when the time comes to see what things I can incorporate. I'm trying to keep the vanilla feel and look, but I'm open to ideas and see how I can do things while keeping it vanilla.
quick question, which version are you developing your mod for?
I'm developing for 1.7.10 currently, then porting directly to the newest version. Currently development is paused. I have multiple mods and I'm trying to figure out how to make them relevant to each other in a way that's also compatible to other mods.
I really like all your ideas. I can translate to Spanish if you want when you are finished, blocks and GuideBook if you add one. I'm tired of using mods like Better with mods and Tinkers Construct just for the "modules" your mod's add, and yours are better in my opinion. Keep up the good work!
1.7.10 is too old, too few ppl play it, and I don't feel it's even worth it to keep on going as a result. I stopped doing research to learn how to code certain things in java once I looked at the 1.12.2 code. It's WAY different and I would have needed to re-code everything from scratch to port it to 1.12.2. Now 1.13 changes the code a butt load as well.
I also started out with mcreator 1.7.10 and learned how the mc code worked, then started my own version of the mod in eclipse. 1.7.10 is not supported by forge anymore. There are very few ppl able to help and they are either too busy or not interested in 1.7.10 code any longer. It's understandable, since the code is so different on 1.12.2+
It's dead...
I killed the project, buried it, and deleted it. RIP
I do have a folder with all the textures I modified from the Kitsu's ForgeCraft mod. I had asked him for permission.

I'm about 50% done with the initial release which does not include in-world crafting yet!!!

Only need Acacia wood and FINALLY I will move to world crafting. This is so time consuming!

1.13 finally did it for me. I will move on to 1.12.2+, and I will keep modding in those versions.
What do you mean by "1.13 finally did it for me".
I was just keeping an eye on your mod, Harder wood. If you don't mind me asking what's the reason why it's dead?
