Well nvm.. I just got video support to work.. now I have to get sound sync to work.. I am super excited now... and I apparently have to fix a crash when the video is finished.... but I fixed the issue with running out of memory.. !
but it doesn't do well with high resolution.. I have tested it at 640x480 and it works good,
That is both unexpected and awesome! And I can work with 480p XD at any rate it allows much faster render times. I look forward to the update! No hurry though, like I said it'll be a while before I'm ready to add cutscenes to the map
I want to start a thread in the Mapping section of this forum officially announcing my map as a WIP map. Is it alright if I mention this mod on the thread? I will post a link to this thread.

So Video support may be canned for for now. The library's available for java are just not great. And seem to cause too much stress on it. Most use old Codec formats. So recording a 1 min video in Avi is 56mb (depending on quality and resolution) while the same video encoded under .mp4 is 6mbs. I Did get Video to technically work, and may release that. I am still sort of working with FunwayGuy on supporting video in other ways..

Ok one question wouldn't it be possible to create the video support using VLC?
I think I have read somewhere about a Java API that would make that possible.

You are correct, VLC would be possible, I just didn't want to force ppl to have to have VLC to download my mod. I would have rather it be pure java code, and not use a third party program. It may be a good addon mod, but not for the main mod (at least not yet). Video support was going to be a bonus. When I started this, it reminded me of old school games and how they told stories, still images ,animated images, and Text based story telling. Although I am up for any suggestions... and I have a little help with this. So if there is a way I am sure we can figure it out.

Also just so you guys know I am actually working on stuff. Here is a small preview of the next update with animated Gif support. Now I will say gif support will only work with Gifs that have been optimized and all images are same size inside gif. but it works. I will be looking at ways to improve it more later on.

Hey, that's pretty good! If you can't get video support to work, I can work with gifs. I've already experimented a bit with encoding animations in a gif format, and it works great. Keep up the good work! This mod is awesome!

well it seems to be vlc had two java versions.. JVLC which was abandoned and VLCJ which is still being developed.... It really may be the best option.. I am working with someone on this and we have some ideas on it.

There is one big thing that we need and that is either gif with sound support or vidoe support. I know you can already kinda make videos but its way too hard rn ^^
Evertyhing else is bloody good work
Edit: I just saw your update Video about the gifs and wondered if you might make a tool to make thos cutscene gifs since they have to be optimized that much ^^
Still up for that translation buddy? Otherwise I could jump in
no need, I think if I get video support, I will be using vlcj now. I am working with someone, and we have to figure out the correct way to use it because of the license it uses.

I'll get a tutorial to do the gifs, but there are already tools out there to make animated gifs. I will probably fix the code to accept all types of Gifs. but it wont be hard. also sound support is already in there, but syncing with a gif is nothing more than playing the sound and gif at the same time. of course, doesn't mean it will stay in sync if the gif has a specific action.
also videos are kinda hard if your doing high frame rates, but again I never really had in mind for these high frame rates. It was more meant to be slide show style story telling, And the best part with the non video side, is that you can have multiple translations. Unless I was able to support subtitles, which I cant. and I have a few future updates, I don't want to spoil just yet. but I will give you some spoilers soon. hopefully I will make an ingame editor (not any time soon) to help with the editing process.
Thanks for your reply ^^ Im just rely excited because I am a modpack creator and this would fit perfectly in our new modpack update to have an login animation ^^
I'll try to get an update out tonight. if I get a chance.. I know its been a while. It will include the Gif support, full screen images stretching so you can have borders on the screen, & some optimization. The code is starting to get cluttered, so before I port to another version I will have to clean it up. But I will try to get a 1.8.9 version as soon as I can. seems like a lot of ppl are waiting for that.

There is one thing all those cool "config" mods (mods that are made to be used by editing its configs) are lacking. A detailed description (in text and maybe video) on how to setup their mods. And I do not only mean some example but a list of parameters that can be used, where resources are stored and so on. In detail and followed by some examples that can be viewed online (the config and the outcome).
Please add such a thing. This is as important as new features.
Also remember that this is still in beta, so release version may be different that current versions.. so I may change how I lay this stuff out. but I do try to keep these pages up to date between versions.

I have searched a little bit in German forums and found that somebody solved it.

I think you could at least try the code there as its partially in English. would send you a translation but I need to go to school in 10 minutes
