So I've been playing a lot of Test Pack Please Ignore lately, with galactic craft thrown in there. And I found myself using creative every once in a while when I felt too lazy to go through the process of making complicated blocks and items. I would usually just get the items I would need to make the object, then rather than actually make it, grab it through NEI and toss out the materials I would need (Kinda like an equivalent exchange thing). So, I had an idea;
What if there was a mod that you had only two blocks; a "Sell" block, and a "Buy" block.
I've seen similar systems used in many multiplayer servers, where you could go to a main hub and sell/buy things. The only issue with that, is that it requires a large multiplayer group where people can actually have a small economy with supply and demand aspects. For small servers and single player mode, where an economy can't be held, there should be a way to simulate an economy with a mod.
So here's the idea;
First off, the currency could either be a statistic that's tracked by the mod itself per player, or the currency could be Gold (The statistic would probably end up being better since Gold does take up inventory space).
How one would obtain currency (or gold), is through the Sell Block. Simply put, any object you wish to sell will have either a set value, or dynamic value. (With Mods in mind, I'd simply calculate a block's value (be it machine or not), through the value of the ingredients needed to make it.)
With Set Value; There isn't really a Supply/Demand aspect, no matter how much you flood the market with mud pies, they will still be the same price.
With Dynamic Value; There would be a Supply/Demand aspect, which can be tackled in two different ways. The first of which would be a simple calculation done by the mod to create a idea of Supply/Demand. Where over time there would be a demand, and the value of some items would increase. (This idea is still on the table to fiddle around with). The Second of which, would kinda have a synced server aspect, where the supply and demand would be of real-time aspect. So Player A in Game A would buy Item X, and if enough players in their own games bought said item, that item would increase in value, encouraging other people to create said item for profit.
How one would sell objects through the Sell Block; The idea I have is that the sell block's interface would look a little like NEI, with a simple spot to place a block, and a button that says "Sell". This way you place the block you wish to sell, and sell it. On the right, you can see a list of all the items you can buy, and what their value is. In the Buy block, you wold simply select which item you want to buy.
The idea of blocks; So, as stated, the original idea is to have a Buy and Sell block. The reasoning for this is so someone could use Buildcraft to setup an automatic factory that supplies the market with what ever it is you wish, which adds the tycoon aspect. The Buy block would be for buying items and blocks with currency. The idea of using two blocks can be merged into one "Marketplace" block.
This idea is on the table to be poked around with, and I would like help in making it. I'm not very code savvy, but I am good with textures and whatnot.

I prefer applicants to be of age 18 and up, but as long as you have enough to contribute, It would be awesome for you to help.
Feel free to pitch some ideas below, I'll be glad to discuss this idea even more. I kinda was just sitting on a couch, watching Zero Punctuation when I got the idea. Then hopped on a forum and typed out this. So the idea is pretty fresh in my mind, and I've noted that an earlier attempt was made by Hary4572, since the idea they posted was vague I don't quite know if credit is due. But props for the attempt, and it would of been great if they were successful in their ambition.
I do wish for this mod to be compatible with major mods such as industrial craft and Build Craft. But the idea is mainly so someone can build an epic factory that makes beds, and make a profit. Then use said profit to make another factory that makes cakes.
