I see several problems in the latest version of MF2:
(1) There is a recipe coflict between the steel bar and the pig iron ingot. This makes the pig iron ingot uncraftable, and in turn makes it impossible to researce steel without cheating in the ingot.
(2a) I cannot research heavy armor. OK, I never really use heavy armor, but since this is where the metal plates are I tried. I even cheated my skill levels to all 100 and went through the creative tab researching litterally every researchable item in the game. I still have 0 of 3 items researched.
(2b) When trying to research black steel I have seen it say I've researched several parts while using the research table, but it still reads 0 of 4 (I think). Maybe this is the same bug that effected heavy armor?
I haven't looked much at the actual code for the last couple weeks, other things on my mind and needing to be done. However, at this point these errors blocking progression make the mod not very playable in its current state.

Pig Iron issue already fixed in my fork, steel crafting requires coal dust (temp workaround).
I don't know about second issue, look it today.

I have not seen any of these issues in the version from AP. I've researched heavy armor, and made some, and have been working my way towards doing so in black steel also.
I have progressed to the colored steels, which means I have made pig iron and turned it into steel...
Trying turning it into a pig iron ingot -- its impossible, since the recipe produces steel bars, not the ingot. (Or, if you have not progressed to steel, it will produce nothing).
This might not be a problem if you played part of the game on an ealier version -- I progressed to mithril and admantium on an old version that didn't use the current research system. But couldn't in the current version because of the above problem.
Is this mod seeing any movement forward? I'm really looking forward to the minetweaker and nei integration for 1710
It's had minor activity on the Github but nothing spectacular. It'll never really die. If it goes completely stagnant, I already promised that i'd pick it up.
I have been having some problems with the mod. Been playing for a while then all the sudden every time my husband hits any mob he gets a weapons level up. Is there anyway to fix it. He took it off and put it back on still same issue.

Disable equipment leveling through the configuration file. It doesn't really serve a purpose yet anyways.
Hi, I have simply tried everything in creative, every single crucible in all sorts of combinations, but I cannot get Adamantium Smelting to work and i do not know why
My updating to newer Minecraft versions is on hold for now since I no longer have home internet and so can't upload changes, setup new dev environments, or compile using Forge gradle -- plus I have several other projects that might need to be done first, since they are teaching me how to do things I'd need for this anyway. The code I have so far is on my githup (http://www.github.com/blackjar72) -- though not much is done and its based on the last official version and so lacks Sirse's fixes.
I've got a few other mods that add new materials, which seem to have "hooked" into MF2 - meaning, I can make weapons and armor out of said new materials. I added another mod, Simply Platinum, for some more variety and tiers, but it did *not* hook into MF2, and I'm wondering why that might be?

Materials should be added through MF API, but some materials (StainlessSteel, Titanium, Thaumium, Void, Manasteel, ElvenElementium, Terrasteel) are hardcoded in MF and been available if they registered in oredict.
I don't have free time now, but i has semi-working MineTweaker methods for materials manipulations. I will try to release build with these methods on next week.
So are you the official upkeeper of the code since AP has disappeared again? My hubby wants to update Minecraft but this is one of the few mods holding us back.

If you're looking for a build for a more up to date version of minecraft, I'll probably do it once I find the time past real life problems. For now im jjust watching Sirse polishing this up nicely on 1.7.10. I have a dream to use this alongside the ice and fire mod so I'll probably push this to 1.12 sometime in the future.

Try craft pig iron bar and convert it to ingot
