Greetings and Salutations everyone! Welcome to my first mod concept for MC 1.8. This mod would increase the challenge and rewards for one of the most important activities in the game, which is harvesting. Simply put, it adds stone, dirt, ores (WIP) and wood(WIP) block variants with increasing hardness and resistances aka more dense/different composition/etc.
Why? Honestly, once you've gotten your stone pickaxe or iron axe, nothing really stands in your way since dirt, ores, wood and stone blocks are relatively the same. There are some exemptions of course but hopefully you get the point. So this got me to question, why have all those nice tools when the blocks that you use them on stay the same, in terms of properties, all the time? No "tiered" versions so to speak. And realistically speaking, not all stones or dirt or wood materials are the same anyway. Plus the wear and tear on your tool would and should vary.
Right now the mod is nearly complete for an "early" release, with 2 variants for dirt and stone which spawn in "pockets" in the Overworld similar to ores. These blocks are either darker in color or have unusual pigmentation so they are easier to spot. The Dense stone variants drops "tougher" versions of cobblestones, while dirt blocks drop just regular dirt.
Dense Ore Blocks have the possibility to drop more "regular" ore blocks
Damage to tools will decrease or increase depending on material
Have items that can be crafted from these more dense versions
So what do you think? BTW the mod would be part of another ongoing project that I hope I can share later. I'll post the link once the mod is ready. In the meantime, I am open to constructive comments/criticisms/suggestions. Thank you and Cheers!
