How's the development going?
I'd say it's going fine, other than the need for more help. Right now we only have one modeler and a coder active. But we have nothing to code quite yet so our coder isn't actually doing anything.
I'm trying to research as much as I can to write up info books for the animals you can get. But that's about the only thing I can do as I am too busy to do much else. Plus I have no skill in anything else. xP I tried modelling, but I don't really know how to go about it and I find it really difficult...

Oh, well that's alright! No worries. I did make a Github account though for the project, I posted that a while ago... I think I remember the password, I should double-check though. (I don't write accounts down anymore, I remember them quite easily.) But code what you can, and what you can't I'll find someone else to do it, or do myself I guess.
For the currency in pet stores and clinics, it could use gold nuggets, a la Diversity( a mod that adds more diversity to villages).

We MIGHT, possibly add fictional pets later. But as I've stated a few times already, we're focusing on the animals that have been left out by other mods/exotic pets. Plus you could always use Mo' Creatures as that adds tons of mythical creatures.
