I'm planning to do exactly that, maybe borrowing the idea from BetterStorage (again o.o)
But then i'd have to remove the armor value form the backpack... tradeoffs.
That's ok, technically a backpack wouldn't really provide much armor value so having it's own slot will encourage use of them since they can now wear them over their preferred armor. if you left them as is, then you get people asking you to allow enchantments then they'll want you to allow them to make stronger version for better protection, and well, yeah...
Ok, so nice to report no crashes...however, hadn't realized this before, you may want to change your keybind to say H as Q is how you toss items out of your inventory.
Ok, so testing, You may want to better outline how the keys and functions are used, The keybind being what switches between one tank or the other and shift and scroll to set the hose mode. That said, the hose doesn't work if it is in the green slot of the backpack and if either the bed or the hose are in a green slot you cannot place the other in there. I also could not seem to get the sleeping bag/bed to work at night. No errors or messages, it just was not doing anything.
The only way I could get the hose to work was if I had it in my hotbar.

The hose only works in the hotbar that's by design. You deploy a sleeping bag from the backpack by placing it in the ground and prssing the corresponding button in the GUI. I'm going to update the main post :/

Double posting FTW!!!
Version 0.6.5 is up. Fixed localizations, made some optimizations in general.
Behind the scenes I've started working in the "equip the backpack without using an armor slot" thingamajig. It's going to be a little more complex than expected. Well, a lot more complex. Infernally complex, actually. But it's coming.
If it's not up in curse yet, you can find the downloads in the githubs, btw

Glad to hear it! Been testing and so far so good! Quick question, do you plan to have the backpacks include any inventory space besides the 6 slots?
I ask, because if so, this would make a perfect and better replacement for other backpack mods as that is the only thing it is lacking at the moment. Maybe have a regular chest worth of inventory for most backpacks and the ones that are emerald, diamond, etc, have a double chest worth? Maybe even an ender chest style backpack that could possibly link with chickenbones enderstorage if the mod is installed? that would even make it a great replacement for the ender pouches if you could just right click the backpack on say an enderstorage chest to link it....

erdferdf made a mod review! It is now posted on the first post. My eternal appreciation goes to him. Go check it out, it explains a lot. Also it showed me a lot of stuff is broken!
Thank you, server info is of special value to me because its hard to replicate a sserver in my machine. I don't have enough powah.
Next build in an hour or so will have an experimental fix for this issue.
Please try to keep bug reports in the Github Issue tracker, makes it easier to track the issues
How many issues could an issue tracker track if an issue tracker could track issues?

Yes, I'll work on an backpack upgrade to add half a chest of space. I want to keep it small because I'm not competing with other backpack mods that offer silly big inventories
Just as I finish work on the "not using an armor slot thing"

I might suggest you may actually want to compete with them. Being a modpack creator myself I can tell you that it is the overall features that are a large part of the decision on which of a number of similar mods to use. As a player, I would rather have one mod do all the things than two or three similar to get all the features I want.
With yours, having tanks is a phenomenal step forward and even if I have to upgrade your backpacks to carry a half chest but have the option of multiple upgrades to say a double chest, that would be the deathknell for any other backpack mod, yours would just be the one-stop shop for backpacks at that point and I would have no reason to clutter my inventory with tons of different mod backpacks with yours installed.
So, in short, if you have to make it progressively more expensive to cap out at 54 storage slots, it would still be worth it.
That's a good point. Still, I don't really like a backpack that's bigger than the main inventory. Sure they'll get a (much needed) enhancement soon, but i'll keep it somewhat compact. I have to keep the tradeoff of carrying fluids valid with the item inventory. For all the rest, I agree with you. Let's compete with everyone, why not.
It seems like a pretty good mod! Can I use it in my modpack, can you add Craftable Animals compatibility (E.G. craft a Creeper item with a Backpack to get a creeper backpack), Twilight Forest Mob Backpacks compatibility, and Liquipack compatibility?

I wouldn't rush to include in a modpack yet. It is still very much beta and you should wait until he gets the majority of his planned features and bigfixes out of the way.
As for whether or not you can, This mod is under the GNU LESSER GENERAL PUBLIC LICENSE Version 3. which he placed in the OP will have all the answers you need.

Ok, ladies and gentlemen. Some news.
On monday, I will be hopping on the inside of a flying machine to the prospect of a new life in a different country. I will update the mod, as soon as I can get my grabby appendages on a new computer. Until then, I can't make any promise about anything to anybody anywhere. I won't be gone for long, but at least one to two weeks will have me flying, probably not crashing into a fireball, settling in a new place, and doing an awful lot of running.
I (hopefully) leave this thing mostly working as it is. The new content will start soon. Please keep the bug reports at the github so I can browse them appropiately when the time comes. However, I'm always checking here to see if something comes up. If Wi-Fi allows it in the airport, even then.
You can post videos, songs, poems, complaints, insults and whatever meanwhile. I would love seeing what you guys are doing with this.

Edit: 0.6.6 doesn't fix the server crash, the real fix in the post below.

It fixes a weird event problem and makes things way more electrifying now. Go get zapped.
