Would it be possible before moving on to 1.8 to add in config options to allow which blocks can be broken with your fist, such as Glowstone and Ice or Sand and Dirt? Or simply making only leaves breakable, or said config option for that?
Only reason I'm asking is because I'm trying to make a very specific survival pack, and punching blocks of any kind without the correct tool is something I've been looking for.
Thanks if possible and if not good luck on 1.8.
Edit: Also, Stone Bricks from Vanilla Minecraft don't function, say, like Stone or Cobblestone, being able to be broken by your fist-slowly but surely-with no repercussions. Also, Botania stone blocks act much the same as well as some stone blocks from Tinkers' Construct. Any chance for a fix? If nothing else, just an option to disable everything from being broken without the correct tools. That's my biggest wish before 1.7.10 is done.

A config option like that will be released in the version immediately after 1.8, and it will take only a couple of weeks at most. The current block-breaking algorithm is very buggy, and a newer, more reliable, and more compatible algorithm is already implemented in the source code for the 1.8 update. After the 1.8 update this new algorithm will also be applied to the 1.7 version as well.
I love this mod! Great work. One problem I face is that I cannot break redstone ore. Regardless of what tool I use it always gives me the wrong tool message. Even a diamond axe doesn't work. I tried changing the config under the Always Breakable section, and either it doesn't work or I am not putting it in the right way. I have tried the following formats for the id name: "minecraft:redstone_ore", "minecraft:lit_redstone_ore", 'minecraft:redstone_ore', 'minecraft:lit_redstone_ore', <minecraft:redstone_ore>, <minecraft:lit_redstone_ore>
Please help if you can. Everything else in this mod works great, but I enjoy the full experience if I can't harvest redstone.

This is a known bug. It will be fixed in the next 1.7.10 version and the initial 1.8 version. The same issue happens with obsidian and a couple more blocks.
Is there any feature where help in needed more urgently needed then in others? Or if not are there features that are almost done?
Right now, the 1.8 update is top priority, and has been for a few months now. Afterward I will prioritize compatibility and modularization for the 0.9.5 update, which will be the last non-bugfix update for 1.7.10. Only once that's done will new features be added, and by then only to the 1.8+ version.
To make it perfectly clear, Forge's update to 1.8 is the biggest update for modders of all time. This update makes 1.7.10 look like child's play, especially for rendering code. One feature that my mod has that most users probably take for granted is the partially transparent blocks and items in the GUI's. Unfortunately, Minecraft's massive overhaul of the rendering engine makes the method by which I did that in 1.7.10 impossible. Rendering the block/item over the GUI is difficult enough already in 1.8, but I also have to make it partially transparent. So, I have been looking for alternatives in half a dozen different help threads. As GL11 rendering is quite advanced code (even in Java), they get very few replies. This, combined with real life, is why the update has taken so long. The rest of the update is fairly straightforward, but this bit of rendering code is very troublesome.
So I've killed 3 cows, 4-5 pigs, and ended up with 32 rawhides. What are they used for? I can't make any leather strips too since cows aren't dropping leather at all. Pigs and cows are just dropping rawhide only. I thought I could outwit using leather and cut down some vines for twines and use it to make my first axe, but- NOPE. Axe's requires leather strips... how does one acquire leather from this mod? The video tutorial shows killing cows, but when I do that, all I get are rawhides. Am I supposed to smelt the rawhides into leather somehow? I'm out of ideas on how to progress at this point, and since there is no wiki, I am stuck. Can someone, anyone, who's played this mod before tell me how you progress at this point?
MY SETUP SO FAR:
Made Flint Knife, got some sticks, twine, raw meat, and tons of raw hides(purpose?). No way to get string or silk right now and becoming extremely hungry. I've been traveling all this time and death would result with me spawning hundreds of blocks away and risk me losing all my items I've acquired so far. I'm unable to chop any trees, and my temperature(provided by Enviromine) is dropping by the second now risking my health to hypothermia. This world is put on halt as well as this mod until someone can help me out, please. This mod seems like a really good addition to hardcore players, and I would hate to take this mod out just because I don't know how to play it properly- even though I've read your OP and watched the video, there is no mention of raw hides, unless it was within the 16 pages on this forum somewhere (I only read the first 8).
Thank you so much for that input, yeah you're correct. It turns out, another mod, ReasonableRealism makes mobs drop raw hide, which in turn needs to be dried into leather first. While it is a good idea, it won't go good with this mod at all. The tanner requires wood, but with BB installed too, there's no way to get wood before leather. Hey mod author, perhaps you can integrate the ideology of turning hide into leather with your mod too?
Glad I could help. Rather than removing either of the mods, since it seems like you enjoy the realism, you could add minetweaker3 to your modlist. It allows you to alter crafting recipes. It also allows you to rename items. So to keep your realism intact you could rename the leather strips to rawhide strips, then add a crafting recipe to use a BB knife on rawhide to get the strips.
One of the planned features of v1.0 is the ability to easily add and remove recipes for all furnaces and the double workbench via config. I think I know how to implement it, but I'm still thinking it through.
Just because I'm interested are you thinking about using Forge' normal system or will you implement a completely new system, or will you use a system made by someone else?
Not sure what you mean. Recipes for the double workbench are not added the same way as regular workbench recipes. The same is true for the furnaces' recipes. I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to create my own (probably JSON-based) system for loading recipes.
I found a rather extreme bug, or maybe it's intentional, and if it
is, please tell me how to get around it. Whenever I try to break
obsidian or redstone ore with any pickaxe, even diamond, it says in chat
"[Better Beginnings] Wrong tool!" With the redstone, i thought it was
intentional, so I started using TNT to break it, although that's very
inefficient and difficult, but I just recently got my first diamond
pickaxe in survival using this mod, and I want my obsidian!
Here are pics of my failed attempts to mine redstone and obsidian

As you are the third person to point this bug out, I have added this to the FAQ. This will be fixed in the next 1.7.10 version, and the first 1.8 version.
Thanks for the info, and may I ask, approximately when will this update be released?
Right now I'm working on rendering code. It's very difficult and I'm currently trying to get an already opaque block or item to render as partially transparent in the GUI, as well as in the world. Beyond that it's mostly pre-release testing; the rest of the code is almost completely updated and functional. I honestly can't give an estimation date, but it'll be about a week after the rendering trickiness is finished.

@Magician_DC
Are you sure you don't have any other mods that may be conflicting?
The .jar has no texture for rawhide, nor have I ever seen one drop using the mod.

Once it is fully released, I will definitely base this mod around my modpack. Keep up the wonderful work.

I just found another small bug. I tried cooking a cactus into cactus green dye, and none of the furnaces work.
Thanks. I just made a bug on the bug tracker for this.
