I'm planning on putting out some "work in progress" builds for 1.8.9. They won't have all the features of the 1.7.10 versions, but it should be a good start. (In fact, some features might never make it to 1.8.9, especially those that make less sense in Thaumcraft 5.) They will also feature some entirely new things.

What is going to be the biggest change between 1.7.10 and 1.8.9 function-wise? My guess is on replacing centavis with aura or the like. I certainly hope these will be flux-free, as I don't want a bigger reason to flux up my base using automation tools. That fear is solely speculation, as I haven't gotten that far, but I've heard horror stories of such things.
I'm all for the fluxing for the record, but having more tools to handle it as well!
Agreed. Some flux management tools would be great, considering there's no flood of such in actual TC5. Although as of recently, there is a pattern crafting machine, so perhaps Golems have competition now. .
If you have any suggestions for aura/flux management, feel free to post them. I haven't had a lot of time to actually play around with the new mechanics (I've so far only brought over devices that I don't think need to rely on the aura), so I'm not sure what's needed beyond what TC already has.
A device that condenses aura types into large 'cores' that can be stored or re-fed to diffuse the vis back in, so you can transport large amounts. Could be used with flux. The cores are fragile, however, and breaking them can exhibit dangerous effects based on the type that suddenly spiked back into the aura.
Similarly, a device that absorbs flux to emit wonky effects, but prevents taint directly.
A 'bomb' that cripples all life temporarily, or just Taint. Shimmerleaf++.
Some way to slurp up a bunch of Flux Goo. Honestly the Flux Scrubber from TC4 would already be a step up, if maybe a way to increase its range.
That's what I've got so far. There were a lot of great ideas on the TC5 thread, scattered about.

Awesome. This is easily my favorite Thaumcraft addon and I'm missing it terribly in 1.8.9. So, this image suggests that Azanor has now made it more possible to interact directly with golems and add things to them?
Version 2.0.1 (for Minecraft 1.8.9) has been released.
2.0.1
- Ported:
-- Slivers of magic.
-- All variants of redcrystal, Waila provider for redcrystal.
-- Hourglass, magic hourglass, Waila provider for hourglasses.
-- Redstone inversion torch.
-- Remote comparator.
-- Crystalline eye.
-- Enchanted paper, bound enchanting paper, enchanting bookshelf.
-- Runic whitelist, runic blacklist.
-- Tally box, tally box lenses.
-- Vishroom stew. (No research or soup.)
- New:
-- Shear Seal and Advanced Shear Seal.
-- The direction tally boxes output redstone signals can now be changed using a wand. Multiple directions can be used. You can even output into the block it is reading from.
(Yep, I skipped past v1.x in favor of v2.x. Automagy for TC 5 feels more like "Automagy version 2" than version 1.0. Perhaps I'll even put out a version 1.0 for 1.7.10, if there's something that needs fixing or polishing.)

For flux, how about a Flux Centrifuge that centrifuges Vitium? Basically, it uses Aer, Terra and Aqua vis to turn Vitium into Perditio and Potentia, which is further reduced into Ignis and Ordo.

Perhaps some way of turning aural vitium into tainted shards in a way that greatly reduces the amount of vitium in the aura? Naturally it would be expensive to make, and might require voidmetal as such...
Edit: On the subject of vitium shards, maybe Vitium slivers will be a thing at some point.
liking the shear seal. this remains one of my two favourite thaumcraft addons along with thaumic horizons. very nice.
Same here, such a shame how Thaumic Horizons got mostly abandoned... I get that TheKentington (or whatever his name is...) has been having issues IRL, but I still wonder why he hasn't at least tried to find someone else to take care of the mod while he's away... I mean, wouldn't it be cool to have creature and self infusions in 1.8? Or a modified version of the planar vortex to fit in with the new nodal mechanics? Maybe not the animation powder/focus since golems have changed so much, but everything else I can think of would fit so well...

I hope someday there's more magic in Minecraft, though I know it's not likely to happen. In the meantime, I play modded a lot. I enjoy a lot of other games too, so don't expect me to be on the forums all the time.
Just wanted to say thank you. My tome mirrors work perfectly now!
A progress update.

Automagy for Thaumcraft 5 and 4.2 - Automation, Logistics, and Other Toys
Consider me thriiiiiiiiiiiilled! I'll report any shenanigans in the WIPs, if desired. (Golly, I missed Redcrystal.)
