I perfer a free playable, if slightly buggy version like what TheTechnicLord is attempting
Could be right, but so far TTL is just talking, not "attempting". And he previously admitted he can't even code in Java, so he's lowered the bar a bit.
Talking isn't doing, it's talking. But if he can produce something, I will gladly support him.
I perfer a free playable, if slightly buggy version like what TheTechnicLord is attempting instead of this project turning into the ships mod where we players need to pay to access the best features... which is a highly illegal way to breech the minecraft EULA and has made me view Cuchaz in a slightly darker light ever since ive started using his ships mod and come across pay walls left and right :/
Those are some pretty strong claims. What are the "best features" that are behind "pay walls left and right" ? What am I doing that in violation of the Minecraft EULA? As far as I know, nothing I am doing violates the Minecraft EULA. If someone else has a different opinion, I'd like to know why.
I will gladly support you Cuchaz if you upload a beta version. I need to see the proof something is happening then I will help it move along.
The last few months have been nothing but talk, no updates or anything.
Yeah, the project got stalled for a while because someone pulled the rug out from under me. But the project has recovered and is progressing again. Right now, I'm working on rebuilding my mod loader. Sadly this isn't sexy work and there are no screenshots to show off. I won't score any bonus points for getting my mod loader working, but it's is a necessary step for getting Tall Worlds working again. I'll keep you guys updated with the progress, as always. =)

Unfortunately its a bit of a chicken and egg situation, it's hard to prove to people what you can do when you don't have the resources to do anything. Getting the ball rolling is always the hardest part.
Nothing Cuchaz has done is a breach of EULA? Modders/admins aren't allowed to charge for game or mod features; cosmetic-only things for donators is outside that scope. The gameplay between donators and non-donators is completely identical, so it's within the agreement.
It's not even against the EULA to use Mojang's cape system, technically speaking (although they've expressed disappointment with modders who use "donator capes").
[Smugness warning] I just remembered that I didn't even send Cuchaz my username when I became a patreon so I don't even get a plaque, I don't care though and I don't know why it's such a big deal. The plaque's are just a way of saying "thank you", they're not a reward - they have zero function except brag rights.

Don't forget that you have a lot of modders keen to help you along with it! Dunno about anybody else but it's personally what I'm looking forward to most (mainly so I can get a start on these ~9 ideas I've had for a while and eww @ ASM, as I've said before heh).
But yes - I do realize that my donations are *not* towards the M3L development directly, so please don't feel pressured by me or anyone for getting M3L into a publicly usable state

Just putting this out in the open since you must have skipped over it when you last read the EULA: basically the down low is content creators(explicity stated as map/modders in text) are NOT allowed to make ANY money from there contributions to the community. Mojang has said they don't care about donations since it's a support thing, but when you force a 'pay for perks' system you are making a transaction and thus breaking not only the EULA but the law as well if you look up a few copyright rules in regards to addons to existing things and EULA breakage... basically you have the worst case yet since I have never seen a mod that implements paywalls in any way, shape, or form. Donator capes, hats, early releases, and pay to win servers also fall in this this catagory as well, shoot you don't even fully own your own code as stated by the EULA!
Any addon is automatically within the legal bounds for the products owning party to modify, use, or stop at any point and the creator must comply if asked... Microsoft is running the shots now and even some of the big modders who have been at this for YEARS have stopped the pay for extras system they were previously using the moment the buy out happened, now what's that tell you?
It doesn't matter how you look at it, the pay wall is VERY illegal and has been since the moment the EULA was created. I couldn't care less about the features behind the paywall since I quit using the mod anyways after I encountered it, it's the principle of the matter that really bugs me... I just don't understand how anyone can break the law and try to justify it while not even bothering to stop... and what makes it worse is alot of the content creators in the Minecraft community do this very thing, some aren't aware it's illegal but most are. I have never seen a community do such a thing until I started playing Minecraft years ago... and it's only getting worse as time goes on, how much longer until we player have to pay for mods?(with Microsoft in charge I vote about a year or two)
The sad part is im not trying to be in any way 'trolly' or 'hating' im just stating the facts, don't believe me? Go look at the section of the EULA that directly addresses these things and it's pretty much common sense from there :/
Also im stopping the conversation here since ive tried to explain this multiple times before but most of the time im either ignored or treated like an idiot when I have read multiple laws regarding such things... I just don't feel like having this conversation again when I know it's not going to make any difference, please continue with your currently scedualed thread topic.
Now that I'm chipping in, you have three professional coders/developers telling you that its not a breach of license or EULA. Dan basically summed it up, but if you still disagree, feel free to cite these things which say he is breaking the rules/law by letting people donate money, and then giving them a sticker that says they donated.
HOLY CRAP I JUST REALIZED THAT THE RED CROSS IS BUYING MY BLOOD WHEN THEY GIVE ME A BOTTLE OF POWERADE AND A SPECIAL "I DONATE BLOOD" STICKER EVERY TIME I GO TO DONATE. CLOSE THEM DOWN FOR BUYING HUMAN BODY PARTS!!!!

TL;DR.
Instead of writing a wall of text to try and convince/coerce those on your opinion, would you mind quoting the EULA to back up your claim?
Next you're going to say it's against the EULA for YouTubers to make money from ad revenue on their Let's Play mods...
Just putting this out in the open since you must have skipped over it when you last read the EULA ... -snip-
The content of your response leads me to believe that you do not understand how the Minecraft EULA works. I no longer feel like I need to respect your opinion. The conviction of your response leads me to believe that there is nothing I can say to persuade you to change your mind. So I'm not even going to try. =)
Unfortunately its a bit of a chicken and egg situation, it's hard to prove to people what you can do when you don't have the resources to do anything. Getting the ball rolling is always the hardest part.
I totally understand! My goal is to get something working out there so people can see I really can deliver on my promises. =)
Actually Cuchaz, on that part I'd like to make a suggestion. You could change the small support plaque so everyone can build it but if they aren't a pledger the image/text will change to something generic, maybe like "Support Cuchaz Interactive". That way, everyone can show their support but the patreons can show that they are activly suporting you.
This is a fantastic suggestion! =D I'll try to do it in the next version of Ships Mod.
Also, now I really want to change the name of the plaques to Donation Stickers.
I remember back in the day, when all content builders were genuinely breaking the law. on purpose too. We were called hackers back then... And even then, we were getting less flack than this... because customized game content is awesome!
That aside, I'll see what I can scrape together for m3l. You are awsome Cuchaz and your work is valued by others.

Well, this is fun... the thread sidetracked off on EULA again, but not even in a logical, friendly way... AFTER Chuchaz reassured everyone that he was well within the limits (Correctly so) , and told me NOT to sidetrack it. The guy who's making all the fuss could have at least made it in the thread of the mod that his thread is about! Also, keep up the good work Chchaz, i'm still in high school and can't donate anything, but I can't wait for this THANKS!
You've been talking about how you intend "to compile this" for over a month. You appear to be trying to ride on Cuchaz's coattails here. While he is coding, you are talking. So....
Heyyy. Come on, don't be mean. What I'm saying is that the code is open source but he cannot distribute the compiled code for legal reasons, I've been talking about compiling it for myself (which is legal) and testing/making some videos, but just when I started, AP exams. And lots of studying. Loooottss of studying. I do have a life outside MC lol. Anyways, I'll compile it when I'm done studying. Nuff said?
Edit: Seriously though, people are taking this the wrong way. A problem with this mod that many have is that nothing comes out and not many see the source code for some reason, so I thought by compiling it and making videos + taking screenshots I could contribute. Also, I can code Java and I do mod (just not very well). I'm just much better at C++. Anyways, I'm tired of this lol. Back to studying.

I'm only gonna stop by for about a moment to type this message
I am prepared to wait however long it shall take to complete this mod, and for it to be released. We need to not rush developers as they have personal lives to tend to.
TTL, Take as much time as is required to study, AP exams are important.
and Cuchaz, I hope you get everything sorted out with M3L with quality, and not speed.
These projects take time, and therefore should be waited on as the results should not disappoint. Please consider it like editing a video. You've got the basic idea, you're pretty sure you know what to do, but the editing process may take effort... and dare i say, TIME. Please stop begging for betas and videos and please just wait for this mod to be completed
I have spoken, and now it is time I slept.
Also, I know I shouldn't hate, but dang some people read EULAs but fail to get them. Everything Cuchaz is doing is LEGAL
