Would work pretty easily on a square world, but I think it would look cheap. To do it with a square world is actually very simple though;
Just tread (x,y,z) as (x - (x div world_width)*world_width, y, z - (z div world_width)*world_width)
Using a different shape makes things needlessly more complicated (though it is feasible, provided the shapes can be tessellated properly... still feasible if they can't, but then it just starts becoming a massive pain in the ass). I have some ideas for a cube shaped world, but I might keep them quiet until I decide whether or not to try and learn Java well enough to make such a mod myself (unlikely, I don't really code for CPU that much in a functional-code-to-do-things-other-than-maths capacity)

Lol, the operator you're looking for is called modulus. =)
Wait... no I meant div... wait no I should have just used x mod world_width... wait... no... what...
*derps*
Long day. I think I started with div and mod, then got lost somewhere between the two and just settled on div after I started writing it out (they are complimentary functions, so...)
EDIT: Btw, sometimes I wonder whether I am smart, stupid, or just totally effing insane. My bets are on insane, with a little bit of stupid mixed in there for fun.

Everything I have seen and read so far instills confidence in me that we have the right coders and imaginations working on this project at this time.
As a member of the original Cubic Chunks Revolution in Minecraft that changed the Vanilla game forever, and as it's primary Evangelist against immense adversity back in the NDF era, I endorse this Project as the official re-emergence of the Cubic Chunks Mod. * Subject to change depending, of course (Robinton has final word).
Cuchaz; you are the right person to both make this happen again and make it happen right on the modern SMP platform. I can petition to give you full access to the original source code of the original mod if this would give you useful context that might help. It seems though that you might not need this.
Just let me know.

Thanks for all the enthusiasm! Progress is moving steadily along. We're almost to the point I think where we can release a beta. There are just a few more pieces that need to fall into place. I don't think throwing tons of old source code at us is going to help much, but I appreciate your offer anyway.
Just follow the thread. Some people say it's buggy, but I haven't had any issues with it. I'm notified every time someone makes a post in a thread I'm following when I log in, without issue.

No problem. I rather suspected that would be your decision as you seem to be successfully dealing with everything you've come up against with this challenge so far and are seemingly doing this full-time atm.
Besides; it's dawned on me now that since you are successfully implementing this project without the old code that it might be best to keep this open source code base clean for everyone's benefit. I just wanted to make sure you knew that it might be available in case you really did need it.
These are exciting times thanks to you guys! Thank you in advance for the ride to come.
[EDIT] Having made your project open source, and it being a full SMP solution, raises the odds of Mojang eventually adding it or a similar capability to nearly 100% in my estimation. But I can say with a full 100% certainty that even if they don't we will all be enjoying the hell out of this Mod.

I'd love to see layered dimensions like what was in the GravityCraft+MineUp mod. Setting a total world range and assigning percentages of it to Overworld, Erebus, Nether, Deep Dark etc. Cubic chunks have fascinated - and quite honestly intimidated - me since Robinton's thread back when. This would be an adventure.

Well, I made this mod for me to have more fun in Minecraft. It's licensed under the GPL, so other open-source modders can use it, but it would be against the terms of the license to just paste it into Mincraft right now. If Mojang actually wants to use it, I'm sure we can work something out, but I'm not going to worry about it right now.

Well... if they're desperate, Minecraft goes open source, and adopts GPL so they can include your work

Well, notch did originally say that he would open source Minecraft at some point. At the rate he's still making money off it though I'd hazard a guess that it might be 2091 before he lets go of it, heh heh.

And here's some more fun with the terrain generator.
We're working towards a beta. There are still lots of bugs to fix, but we're getting pretty close to something playable. We'll keep you guys updated. =)
Oh jeez, my friend has an obsession with wanting a new world height for his 1:1 scale World Trade Center. He is gonna be mighty happy now. So from what I've read, a Beta is expected soon?

If they're desperate, they email Cuchaz, then Cuchaz says "Sure, you can use it [provided XYZ happens]", and then the problem is resolved
