Just out of curiosity, have you ever considered an iron -> pig iron -> steel type method? Possibly increasing gross yield slightly in exchange for using large amounts of coal.
Actually it seems that Eunomanic beat me to it in terms of the suggestion, well done.
It's a great mod but I just can't see the point in making steel. An alloy like Alumite is much easier to make and is far stronger than steel. Maybe if steel had some inborn properties it would be more useful.

I'm a bit confused - was there ever a resolution to making steam in the high oven? (Playing Agrarian Skies currently, so, the 1.6.4 release 0.0.4.2.) I still have the problem reported by others back in April where I can't pump water out without going into the interface and rearranging it; as soon as all the steam is gone but water remains in the internal tank, steam goes on top and is therefore not the fluid being drawn. If I blacklist the water, then at that point, nothing much gets taken out at all.

Statistically, alumite and steel are virtually identical - they're the same tier of material, if you will.
That said however, Steelworks was intended to expand on steel greatly, allowing you to transform it into any number of useful steel alloys with nearly as many varying properties as all the rest of Tinkers combined. Unfortunately that has yet to be the case, so we are sort of stuck with the convoluted steel making system that is, if only because of the effort it takes, slightly inferior to alumite.
Is there a trick to getting the config to not delete your deep tank block list? Every time I launch, it just goes back to nothing. Currently running 1.6.4 4.2 Fix2.
This has happened for a while on older versions I believe. If you set any block through MineTweaker to have glass's oreDict, it will set them as blocks used for the bottom and top windows and when setting another block up with TiC's glass's oreDict it can be set as any of the side windows.
To the guy that made the 1.7.10 port: I cannot seem to get the High Oven to function. I have the newest version of both TiSW and CookieCore. The controller has a complete GUI, the thing is loaded with iron ore, gunpowder, redstone dust, sand and charcoal, it's recieving a redstone signal, the structure is complete. It just doesn't run.
EDIT: Tried it with coal and charcoal blocks, neither seems willing to burn up either.
The mod is crashing on tsteelworks.client.TSClientProxy.initManualRecipes(TSClientProxy.java:267) when loading, using TConstruct_mc1.6.4_1.5.5.7 and TMechworks_mc1.6.4_0.1.6.
Any thoughts?

If you check his bug reports on Github, he (Ephys) is aware of the issue. I got it to work with coal. Charcoal blocks worked for me as well. Everything else seemed to work fine. I had the latest TiC, the latest TiSW, Mechworks, and Iguana TiC and several other popular mods. Hopefully he'll fix it in the next update.
