WIP - Build redstone circuits with the click of a button
Never able to remember how to build an RS Latch or pulse limiter? Hate toggling out of Minecraft to look up redstone schematics? Then this mod is for you.
Features
Instantly generate various circuits by right-clicking with the Redstone Helper Item
All circuits are accessible from a single Item; cycle between them with '[' and ']'
Auto-consume required materials from inventory upon generation, or turn off material requirements
Tooltip displays currently selected circuit for each Redstone Helper Item
Basic building block of the circuit can be changed via an intuitive Gui, and the default is configurable
Input signal locations of the circuit are denoted with light blue wool
Output signal locations of the circuit are denoted with red wool
Disable input / output signal highlighting to use the current base block instead of wool
Current Gates / Circuits
Gate and circuit designs used are from the Ultimate Collection of Redstone Circuits page, so credit to the many contributors of what is truly the ultimate resource for redstone designers.
or gate (horizontal and vertical variations)
nor gate (horizontal and vertical variations)
Screenshots
Gui for selecting base block and toggling input / output signal highlighting. The current base block is rendered at the top. The button's texture is strange because of my texture pack, which I didn't account for in my gui texture.
Current tooltip display
Currently available circuits. Note circuit on far right has highlighting disabled, so all blocks use the base block (in this case, diamond block :D)
Chat message if you don't have required materials
Controls
If you've used my StructureGenerationTool, the controls are exactly the same as the ItemStructureSpawner.
(coming soon) Sneak to highlight area in which circuit will generate
'Arrow Keys' - up: moves circuit away from player; down: moves circuit towards/behind player; left / right
'O' - changes circuit's default orientation by 90 degrees. This will have the effect of changing which side spawns facing the player.
'I' - toggles between increment and decrement y offset
'Y' - increments or decrements y offset (i.e. circuit will generate further up / down)
'U' - reset x/y/z offsets to 0
'V' - toggles between generate / remove circuit (NOTE - you will NOT get your blocks back when you remove this way)
'[' / ']' - Previous / Next circuit in the list
Right click - generate / remove circuit at tile location clicked
Controls can be customized from the config file that is generated the first time you load this mod.
Planned Features
All logic gates (and, nand, xor, xnor)
Basic circuits (rs-latch, t flip-flop, basic clocks, pulse limiter)
Preview mode (hopefully one in which you can see all the blocks as they will appear rather than just a footprint, but no promises on that one)
Installation
Requires Forge client. Tested on Forge 916 with Minecraft 1.6.4.
1. Download the distributable from my github (not currently available)
2. Drop the zip into your minecraft mods folder.
If there is interest in this mod, I'll do my best to add features quickly and will take requests if applicable. I'm willing to add in simple mechanisms such as double piston extenders, for example, but I won't be doing anything like a full computer or anything.
The idea behind this mod is to simply make designing redstone mechanisms easier by providing the basics, but you still have to know how to use them.
Of course, if you design redstone regularly or you're an engineer, you don't need this, but for those of us who just dabble, I hope this will prove useful.
Updated to include configurable base block, color-coded input/output blocks and tooltip display showing currently selected circuit with a short description.
Now the base block is easily configurable on the fly from a Gui (currently opened by '.' period, but configurable), as well as whether or not to highlight the input / output signal locations. Works with metadata blocks such as wool, clay, etc.
I'll post a pic soon of what the gui looks like, and then start adding some more circuits (spent most of the weekend messing with that gui...)
Progress has been delayed due to the discovery of a bug in my Structure Generation Tool API - that has been fixed, so I will begin updating this mod once again.
I only got around to adding several 'and' gates before getting side-tracked, but more are on the way!
Looks great, cant wait to try it out! I will post if i find bugs or if i have suggestions. This could be great for people who dont know how to do redstone like me xD
This would be an awesome mod! Keep it up. Though there are some simple ones I can make even easier with the Torch Levers mod. The Redstone lever acts as a t-flip flop in one block, which I find amazing.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
I just took the Minecraft Noob test! Check out what I scored. Think you can beat me?!
Unfortunately work on this mod has discontinued due to lack of interest. Perhaps an encyclopedia of redstone circuits, i.e. each page describing the uses of and how to build a circuit, would have been more interesting to people than automatically generating them.
