WeatherPony's mod is somewhat similar and I have used it previously(hard to keep up with all these cool mods, whew, I need a mod for that now #lightbulb)
This is such a great idea! I am also curious why one would venture up to the surface again as everything else can be done underground(almost everything *wink* *wink*). Also, I find it kind of odd that there would be a static amount of time for "the freeze" to take effect forcing you underground. If this is supposed to be extreme survival, you wouldn't know when and it could possibly be too late or too early(wasted time/too hot underground/monster annihilate you)
I saw a WIP that was supposed to add a boss to the overworld deep underground to build off the weird growling/noises that you get when you go underground. Epiphany...I think if you add sounds/items in game/etc that are very foreboding but vague that something is coming and that something is/has caused this would be amazing!
I imagine food will be a problem as one tries to obtain seeds in the beginning as animals probably won't be intelligent enough to venture underground until the time is too late so maybe their spawn rates drop underground. I would love to see large open caverns that would kill people if they try and dig straight down too early, kinda like lava. I'm tired and am kind of having the "i'm high so here's some crazy crap coming out of my mouth" moment, so good luck and I look forward to DL/test!

There will be some reasons to go to the surface, special things will spawn and things will adapt in weird ways im hoping.
Caverns would also be neat, especially since the ground is like 192 blocks deep!

On the mod mix, I believe the solar apocalypse constantly getting rid of snow and winter apocalypse constantly adding snow would be quite the issue. Interesting and funny idea though

-Wood may be a problem after the winter apocalypse begins, so maybe occasional batches of petrified wood appear underground? and you'd have to put them in a furnace to thaw them out and use them?
-Also, (probably the trolliest idea ever) When you kill the 'winter lord' ( I have no idea who the final boss will be) the planet starts to overheat and everyone dies..... I'm just kidding, xD
-Finally, maybe there should be Wooly Mammoths and Abominable Snowmen?

Ohh this is a nice twist to the whole solar apoc mod thats being re-made!
One thing I would recommend however, is perhaps not start us off in a snowy wonder, but rather start us off normal, and have some event happen that starts it, perhaps one that only has a chance to start at night, like maybe it's a asteroid hits that pushes the world further from the sun. The only at night bit could be for those who want a little more time to prep, those who still want it hard core could just not sleep to pass the time back to day and allow the thrill of chance to keep them on their toes. This way you set up for those who want it harder, never knowing, and those who may want some control.
Once the event starts it'll begin to randomly snow, just normal snow, covering the land in white. But then snow don't let up, it just keeps coming, ice starts forming, plants start dieing, leaves start falling, ice starts pileing up like them new ice spike biomes. It just keeps getting colder and colder until you're forced underground.

I was thinking about that, it would probably be a good idea to make it that way. I can't remember why I decided to go for the whole world generating with snow. We will have to see.
This will be fantastic for co-op with my friends! There is usually 7 of us and we mainly spend most of our time on our server underground but with the periodic need to go to the surface so it will be quite interesting to see how to get resources like wood and saplings.
Looks great. Can't wait for those 190 blocks underground. Quick question(s). First off will diamond (and other ores) still spawn from the vanilla layers of the world or will you extend it? And also will you change the minecraft config that allows diamond to ONLY spawn 1 vein per chunk (meaning you can get 4 + - diamonds from one chunk), cause if you still leave 1 vein per chunk it would be very difficult for players to find it. I really don't think 4 + - diamonds are worth digging that many layers (if you extend it). Looking forward to this mod. Will you also release a public Beta/Alpha of this mod?
Edit: Minecraft really needs something (in my opinion) that gives it more of a survival feeling. Will definetely play this mod =)

I like the beacon idea indeed. I also like the idea that someone posted about some reason to go back to the surface. So instead of making the beacon working underground you'll have to go to the surface, place the beacon thing and TA-DA.Instant solution to the Winter apocalypse. I was just kidding. Maybe create like a dungeon (with Ice mobs spawners) and ANOTHER boss (since you fought the frost boss thing). Maybe make it like when you beat the dungeon and the boss the world slowly starts to unfreeze. I also think you would need a nether star to craft the beacon (frost version), but still need whatever the Snow/Frost/Winter Boss drops. Also not use a Wither Skeleton skull for the Frost boss but yes another skull, maybe from a Frost Skeleton. Don't have many other ideas, my brain is FREEZING.
Edit: Another idea(s).Creeper : If a ccreeper explodes while in the Winter Apocalypse will it create some kind of freezing or blocks (maybe freezing the player so other mobs could attack the player, turning the creeper into a support unit?
Arrows: In vanilla minecraft when you shoot a arrow you can retrieve it unless it was shot by a infinity bow or a skeleton. Will you make it so arrows will "freeze" turning them fragile and breaking when going againts a wall and so not retrievable unless you shoot it with a fire aspect bow.
Enchant: Maybe the "Freeze" or "Freezing" enchant for sword/bow wich would freeze the mob it is used on?
I don't want it to be a replica of vanilla with a few changes, I want the mechanics to be unique, but some of these ideas are great!
