Motivations I've always loved dimension mods. With dimensions you get a completely new and different kind of place to explore, without loosing the vanilla style world, and you can even use the world you built that really cool house in instead of starting over.
I used to love exploring the skylands in the Aether I when it first came out for beta 1.7. The new version isn't as fun to me though, because the emphasis is now much more on dungeons and fighting, and less on exploration, though there's still some really cool stuff to find. Eventually, I decided that I wanted to make my own dimension that was exactly what I wanted it to be.
So this is what I came up with.
Terrain A cool dimension has to have cool terrain. Stonerealm has unique terrain I haven't yet seen in any other mod. The generator is based on the old beta terrain generator, which better than the current one. There is also a combination of regular land and skyland.
Biomes So far there are four biomes ranging from flat with lots of water to hilly and mostly dry.
The Stonerealm Biome has the most varied terrain with large lakes and high hills.
The Stonevale biome is mostly flat with shallow ponds and big trees.
The Stonewood biome has tall trees and small hills and pools.
The Stonehill biome has the highest hills and small trees especially in the valleys.
More Screenshots Better screenshots later.
Inspirations As is fairly evident, this mod was inspired by the following: The Aether Big Trees mod Better world generation Biomes O' Plenty I'm very thankful for the innovative work of these talented modders who have made my minecraft experience so much better.
1) First install forge. 2) Put Stonerealm.zip in your mods folder. 3) Enjoy! (Adjust IDs in the config file if you need to)
Getting to the stonerealm In creative you can use the portal activator to generate a stonerealm portal.
In survival you need to craft a tinderbox.
The recipe uses flintandsteel, redstone, a stick, a ghast tear, and a dragon egg. To get the dragon egg, you must slay the enderdragon in the end dimension.
Then build a traditional portal frame (three blocks wide, four tall) out of nether quartz blocks. Light it using the tinderbox.
Future I don't have a whole lot of time to work on this. Part of some weekends, and that's about all. Eventually though, I hope to add the following:
A few mobs: Probably not bosses and dungeons. That's not what I'm interested in, but some cool unique mobs would be fun.
More flora: Better ferns and tall grass. Maybe bushes. Maybe entire new biomes.
A new kind of village: More details later.
Some ores.
Improve some tree shapes. Add recipes for plants, etc.
Fix bugs: Lighting currently is not working. Logs and Leaves have no names in the creative inventory. Some trees grow though everything. Saplings to grow the trees. Mostly not working now. Probably a lot more stuff...

Thanks guys,
Hopefully I can get the update out today. I just wanted to release a 1.5.2 version before spending the time on this. Some people are still playing 1.5.2.

Behold! The 1.6.2 version hath been presented hithertoo! Also it's practically untested, so let me know if anything crashes.
Dwarves are a possibility, very likely. Treasure would be cool, if I think of something unique. The last thing it needs some kind of super-diamond. What about baby endermen instead?

GOD NO, NOT BABY ENDERMEN! ENDERMEN ARE BAD ENOUGH. Friggers teleporting behind you then teleporting away... Dwarves are cool, but a brand new mob is better. maybe something that can climb on the undersides of blocks?

Haha! The baby endermen were a joke. I like the undersides of blocks idea. That does sound like it could really be interesting in a skylands environment. The dwarves will be first though. I need something a bit easier to start off with before doing complex mobs.
I came here expecting a completely stone orientated mod
But instead I found this
I personally like exploring allot so I go play it lateron When more has been added.
Its very cool though I just think of the flatish bottom of the flying hills as too flat for the rest Cool textures and nice generation
I just hope you keep adding biomes and possibly randomly generated structures
Of not too fighting orientated But to get achievements
Goog luck! and have allot of fun
-kokonus
Thanks! I have some ideas for the bottom side of the skylands. It may be a while before much is added to that, but keep checking back. I definitely want to add structures soon. Some stone structures will help explain the name of the mod somewhat.
This dimension looks gorgeous. But the Stonerealm? This isn't that much Stone. How about...the Sky Forest?

Hey, guys. Quote me if you want me to respond. Otherwise I'll have no idea what the hell you want with me.

The name goes sound much more fitting judging by the pictures. I want this mod a whole lot, but I can't download any mods because mediafire is blocked on my laptop. Gotta figure out how to use bit defender.

Glad you like the looks. There will be more stone content in the future. Personally, I think that any dimension mod should have a certain critical amount of surface variety. It makes it more fun to play and adds value to exploration. This follows the same ideas as minecraft itself, which has several tree types, biomes, plants, etc, which have nothing or very little to do with mining or crafting.
That said, I may consider changing the name later.

The mod link doesn't use mediafire. I'm only providing a direct download right now.
This is rather strange, but strange in a good way. The terrain gen so far is pretty, keep it up
Thanks! Sometimes strange is good, I guess. Especially since there are so many skylands mods out there. I wanted mine to be unique. I've been following your betweenlands mod thread for a while, hope the reboot is going well.

Status update:
I don't know if I'll have another release ready before the 1.7 update. Updating the mod to 1.7 also may take a while. But I have been able to start adding some cool underground content. Also, the no darkness bug has been fixed.
Finished:
- Green caves
- Underground trees
- Large Ore Veins (Coal, Iron, Diamond, and Emerald)
- Huge Caverns
To do:
-new mineshafts
-underground villages
(You'll be really lucky if you find that much diamond at once...)

You might get a lot more downloads if you release a 1.6.2 version, though.
