Don't worry, I'm late myself! Without getting too ahead of things, I don't like the idea of adding biomes straight into Minecraft, preferring ways to change and shape the landscape from its base to "foreign" (for lack of a better word).
Quite a few things here!!
Between end of the academic year, getting back into gaming and all such I'm rather delayed, but coding for the new idea of CC has officially (slowly) begun!
My issue with the diversity of vMC biomes is that they just feel like mods rather than Minecraft. Part of my issue is that when I last played MC, it was in 1.5.2, so it was quite a shock to come back to so much change. It was no longer MY minecraft, or the same game I had planned to mod. Having played around I'm happier about developing for it.
Delaying iron production: one of the systems I would like to implement is to do with smelting etc., so I would probably (somewhat hackily) change the furnace outputs if that's doable with the latest Forge - basically, I feel that there's no point only having it for later metals and so on, as by the time you have iron then anything greater is pretty overpowered anyway!
And yes, I'm self conscious and slightly paranoid about my code. This is because I have NO training in coding, at all. Everything I know is self taught in the limited free time I have. Despite this, I have achieved some rather complex things (wrt JW&A, my old mod). So it's kinda a mixture between not wanting to be forced to do it someone else's way that I probably wouldn't understand, and not wanting something I've worked so hard on to be out there to be lifted by someone else should I take longer than they'd like to update etc.

It isn't going to be a thing. And according to forum rules, its officially dead. It's been over a year since the topic was created without any proof of development, or even existence.

Yeah, you're right. It's not like the circumstances as to why there was no development for a year were ever explained by the OP, who definitely never mentioned the fact that unforseen circumstances meant he was without a computer for almost a year. And he definitely hasn't recently said that he has finally been able to start coding.
</passive aggressive reply>
You clearly have the time and computer to respond to that. I think you're just messing for everybody.
Do you just reply blindly, or do you have selective reading?
Because the post you were replying to talks about not having a PC in the past tense, and mentions that I am now coding (which was also stated before your post before).
Between the amount of work needed for what I'm trying to accomplish and the fact that I am coding - for free - in my own spare time (which is little), a far more constructive attitude would be asking how development is going, rather than spreading lies about me.
EDIT: If you want to see that I'm not just a tease, go look at JW&A, my mod before I lost my old comp.
Ok so I decided to want to add a new mod to play with but one that would be simple and based on japanese architecture, I found one that lead me here and upon reading the very first post and a few after that I now find myself overflowing with excitement and anticipation. I cant wait til the day that I can actually play with culture craft. XD
Thanks! Have you had much time to mess around with bamboo and stuff? Yeah I'll upload new stuff before the end of the month hopefully, but currently am away from home
I'm a sucker for mods that add new decorative aspects, Will you be also including aspects from other cultures as well or will you be focusing on strictly Japanese? Will be looking forward to new updates and such.
Decorative-ness is important. Few blocks should be solely functional and there shouldn't be items which are just there arbitrarily, which is why all three 'stages' of bamboo are placeable in-world, even though it is mainly the final stage which will be useful in the mod. But gameplay is also important. To start with, though, you need to get a few blocks up and running first so you might as well make them aesthetically pleasing!
Yes, there will be other cultures. The flood plains/silt/mud blocks are actually from an Egyptian thread of the mod.
Been playing around with the mod for a little while. It shows a lot of potential :)!
I'm assuming the Saplings aren't functional just yet, as well as the stairs (They SORTA work, they can only sit on their side). But it looks promising. One thing That I think might be nice is to taper off the ends of the Sakura vine. So instead of just being blocking at the end, it eases into it (I can give you an example because I'm terrible at explanations). The same goes for the bamboo shoots. If you look at them when they are small, they are also kinda pointy. Would it be possible also to have the bamboo that can be placed in the corners also have a way to be placed in the center? It's nice, but to have full flexibility with the block I think It would be helpful :)! There also seems to be a texture missing from the bamboo door as well, where the two parts of it meet. Will you add paper lanterns? I think some kind of asian themed light source would be a nice addition to the mod. Thanks and hope to hear back from you soon!
Saplings are functional, or they were when I tested it?
The stairs work as intended. It uses the same placement as the other bamboo blocks, meaningmeaning they will always be placed lengthwise against the side you click on. To use them as stairs, place them by clicking the side of a block. Think of it more as a triple bamboo block than a stair block, more rotational options. Perhaps if I add an option to rotate with a bare hand?
I'm not entirely clear on what you mean by the tapering for the vines and bamboo?
Central bamboo is certainly doable (:
I probably mis-registered a texture on the door, I'll take a look.
You'd need to be able to make Japanese paper for lanterns so that it's thin enough for light to shine through...

Unfortunately it seems so, I've tried a few times to get them grow. With bonemeal and just natural growth. No such luck :C

Was able to place blocks in the orientation I wanted, thank you! But I think the option to rotate a block would be nice. The disadvantage of moving it with a bare hand might be the constant accidental clicking. Maybe a simple too or something could be used instead?

I was thinking that the sakura vines could taper off like this when they hung off of the tree instead of the large blocky way they are displayed currently.
The bamboo shoots could be a little more pointed when they are small, similar to how new shoots look:
That's weird, they grow fine in both my development area and normal test world, the latter of which is set up just like any user.
They are set to not work with bone meal for now, and are quite large. Maybe you haven't left them long enough, or there isn't enough space? Can I take a look at how they are planted?
I'll have a think about the stairs ... Maybe I need to make the placement more natural and intuitive. I don't like the idea of needing a tool to rotate bits of bamboo.
I see what you are saying about tapering, but this is Minecraft!

Yay! Thank you for the update and thank you so much for making this mod. I have been super obsessed with creating Japanese building in Minecraft but outside of the Japanese Minecraft forum there haven't been many helpful mods. I'm really glad you started this and I really love your cherry blossom. I was wondering if you were interested in creating Japanese festive things (Taiko drums, masks, ect.) anytime in the future. I would really love it since none of the Japanese mods I have found so far really have anything like that. Thank you again!
A little teaser to show what I'm currently working on. What happens when dwarven smelting methods are set loose on minecraft ores? You get composite metal blocks, of course...

After an extended hiatus, I am back, and CultureCraft (which had previously been started, but was lost in a computer theft) has been restarted.
Pre-release 0.1 is released for testing. Enjoy!

It doesn't grow much slower than sugar cane, and once it gets tall out starts soaring quickly!
Yeah the short version needs some tweaking on the leaf placement, it's on the list :-)

I see what you are saying about tapering, but this is Minecraft!

Glad you are enjoying it (: I'm not sure how much scope there is for festive stuff within what's planned for the mod, but I'll keep it in mind.
