So I had an idea a little while back that it would be cool to roam over a Minecraft world in a giant walking mech.
So I started planning a mod to do so. At this point I'm just gauging the level of interest for something like this. If there is some, I'll post this mod. If not, well I'm probably going to make it for me anyways.
Features
Fully customizable mechs - mix and match different power systems, components, chassis, arms, legs, cooling, control, and utility modules to create your ideal walker!
Multiplayer supportt
Use it as a transport - liquid and item tanks will exist on these things!
Launch missiles and tracer rounds at everything in your path!
Want to fly? Add a jetpack torso or boots!d
The way I see this working is you make a *big* structure, kind of like a garage of sorts (called the assembly array). You can use it to make mechs using the UI, and if you park one inside, you can modify it using the UI.
Media
Pictures of what I have so far (I've really only worked on this for a day or so, so be nice!)
Status
So far, the following is working:
Modular construction system - the mech can accept components and will render appropriately based on configuration
Mechs are driveable
Mech legs animate properly
The gattling gun is operational
The flamethrower is operational
The tank addon is operational and integrates with the flamethrower for extra fuel
The liquid cannon is operational and integrates with the tank addon for extra storage (20 buckets worth)
The storage addon is operational and integrates with the gattling gun for additional ammo
The missile launcher is operational
Multiplayer is working (a very early incarnation of it, but hey, it's there)
The mod uses Forge, and is up to this point entirely modeled, textured, and programmed by me.
I'm not really planning to base this off of anything...there may be some coincidental similarities, but I'm just kind of making this up as I go along.
As for IC2/BC power integration - if the authors of those respective mods have no problem with my integrating with them, then absolutely I will integrate.
I'll likely release an early version, much as I am doing with Ars Magica, and let people play, and evolve the mod as I go. Likely the initial version will contain 3-4 arm pieces, 1-2 sets of legs, and basic cooling/power/processing. Nothing too crazy, but you will be able to have some fun with it while I continue to add stuff!
That would be absolutely amazing. You never cease to amaze me Mith. Let me know if you need help with textures. I should have a little free time coming up in March
This mod was just about to make my day until I found out it wasn't downloadable D;. Luckily, my brother said if I liked it, then the mod might get released. That would make my day C=.
As the team leader of the afore-mentioned BattleTech mod, I will just say congrats for getting this to actually work. (being a newbie coder, a college student, and the only coder on the team, we didn't make much progress) I wish you luck in you further endeavors, and I am really curious as to how you accomplished this, as well.
Excuse me while I lurk and await this mod's release...
Also, what sort of components are you thinking about including? Obviously, different legs (different weight maximums/speeds, but what about terrain effects? Wheels suck at sand, for example, and legs work better in snow or something like that?) and different arms (pick and choose your weapons), but what other parts are you thinking about adding? Engines/cooling bits? Nav/Tactical computers? Fire Control Systems? Radar? Really, you could go as basic as MechAssult/MechCommander or as advanced as Armored Core. =D
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
...actually, created is a bit much.... Thought of. That's more accurate.

Well done my friend! As a modeler on the MechCraft/Battletech mod, could you maybe help us understand a few things like how to animate models easily, or just any advise you have for us?
P.S. Very good job on the mod, I will keep updated on this mod as well as our own Battletech mod.

Suggestion:
Make some evil scientists that try to kill you with their mechs
Happiness is like peeing in your pants, everyone sees it but only you feel its warmth.
Wow! Looks so cool!
Check out my mod, Placeable Items!
If my comment helped you or you just like me, hit the green arrow down there!

And just think, you could combine this with Ars Magica to make it so you can have your mecha-mech shoot magic! That's never been done before, right?
