I don't think you realize how much can change between Minecraft versions. If it were as simple as popping the source code in with the next version and recompiling, no mod would ever go without updates. Unfortunately a major version change (1.6.X to 1.7.x for example) usually denotes some major changes in the way MC handles things, which in turn means that Forge changes the way it handles things. The end result is a lot of cleaning, debugging and testing to make sure the stuff you already had working still works. Nobody likes releasing an updated version with no actual updates, so of course things get added or changed, old bugs get fixed... it's a time consuming process.
In short, they're working on it. I've seen some of the stuff they've been doing behind the curtain and it's fairly impressive, I doubt you'll be disappointed.
the main focus of the next update is adding in some fancy gear that will make fishing more fun/easier. we're also going to try to improve the spawning system if we can so that more fish spawn, & less derpy squids
of course there will be new fish too; like there probably will be in every update.
Can you possibly make a patch for hippomasters aquatic abyss so that we can only have one version of overlapping fish? Anyway amazing mod!
we plan on having it changeable in the config for people to reduce/increase the spawn rates of all our fish. might not make it into the next version, but we will for sure work on it in the update afterwards.
What amazes me is that thehippomaster21 released Aquatic Abyss just last week, and mentioned nothing about it, and yet people are already asking that your mod, which has been in development for the better part of a year, make changes to accommodate it. Honestly, we don't even know if he's going to continue developing it. With how little it currently adds, I think it would be best to just leave it to itself.

not really making accommodations specifically for it, just for other mob mods in general. part of the reason i wanted to make this mod is for it to be included in modpacks, so the more compatibility, the better.
also, this mod has been under development for a little over a year now. the big reason its been taking so long is that it wasnt until recently i got a qualified coder to work with me who is reliable and keeps his word etc. all the other coders who volunteered sorta disappeared without a trace and never saved any of their source code that they had done.
if i recall correctly, i think i asked "thehippomaster21" for help with this mod over a year ago and never got a response... so it bugs me a little that he started his own mod that competes with mine by filling the same exact niche that i planned to with my mod...
Sorry if I kinda offended anyone. I just was wondering as both mods are wonderful and I would like to use both simultaneously. Im sure hippomaster just had a lot on his plate joe, seeing as he has been running multiple popular mods. BTW He has had the sea serpent model for a while, before you even founded your own mod. He is just very under the radar with his work unlike you who has been sharing your progress with the community (which I salute).
Modders are never rivals, only members of the community.
I saw that you are trying to make this mod compatible with the aquic abyss mod. I was wondering what will happen with both of your sailfish? will they just spawn together or what would happen with that? I do want to run both of these mods together I think it will make the ocean 1000 times cooler and more interesting. hope to see a 1.7 update soon!

hehehe... if only you all knew.... there is ALOT of progress i've intentionally held back from public knowledge. i dont like giving away all the surprises. im sure hippomaster probably never even read my message since he probably gets way too much spam in his inbox to read everything because of the success of his mods.
and im curios, when do you think i founded this mod? its not the date at the top of the opening thread. there was a period of about one or 2 months i spent working on it and finalizing ideas before i created the thread. development actually started either in late November 2012, or early December that year... not quite sure... honestly i was having a really hard time IRL with a lot of stuff then, so i don't really want to reflect on it..
To the idea that modders are never rivals, I say: hogwash. There have been plenty of moments in the past when mod devs have been at each other's throats over who is the better for their niche. In the end, they usually wound up developing in different directions, so the problems solved themselves. If you want a good example of this, look into the history of NEI vs TMI. You'll get a good understanding of what can happen when modders start to compete.
Now, as to the idea that thehippomaster21 is purposely competing with you Joe, that he ignored your message, or that he gets too much message spam to worry about it, I think I can clear things up a bit here. Until recently, the Prof was having some issues IRL, and couldn't really find time to work on mods, let alone worry about what kinds of messages he had. From what I can guess, when he finally got back into the swing of things, he just deleted everything in his mailbox that wasn't from MCF staff. Likelihood says that your message was at the bottom of a very long list of messages that were sent to thehippomaster21 while he was gone, and he never knew that you were even working on a mod like this. I think if you were to point it out to him now, he might enjoy working with you on this mod. You two seem to be taking a very similar approach to things, and it would make both of your lives a whole lot easier.
As to making a mod that is intentionally similar to yours, it's not as though it's a new idea. Even though Fantastic Fish has been around a long time, that serpent model of his has been around even longer. He whipped that up in the middling days of Mutant Creatures, and just never got around to making anything out of it. I'm sure he was just happy to finally be able to see it in action. Even you have to admit that it looks awesome leaping out of the water to eat a Pig.
And on a slightly unrelated note, thehippomaster22 does read his messages. Now that he's back, he's been responding to community feedback. He recently replied to a message I sent him asking about potential features for Animated Player. You can't really blame him for not responding if he wasn't here to respond. (come to think of it, he did say that he was working on a secret project in his response, only to release Aquatic Abyss a few days later....sneaky hippo...)

thats what i figured. i know he's responded to messages recently from a newer member of my team about how he does his animations, so i plan on trying to contact him again about working together & combining mods. i wanted a good excuse to change the name anyway
still working on it. RIGHT NOW we are starting to work on our other mod again for a bit. now that we finally got a working 1.7.2 version of the BLEACH MOD working, we will be able to get back to finishing up the next update for this mod ASAP.
also as for updating this mod to 1.7.2, we are working on the next update in both 1.6.4 & 1.7.2 at the same time, so once we get the next update for 1.6.4 out it will be a very short wait for the 1.7.2 version. there will be more content in the 1.7.2 version which is why it will still take longer than the 1.6.4 version.
In short, they're working on it. I've seen some of the stuff they've been doing behind the curtain and it's fairly impressive, I doubt you'll be disappointed.
Just you wait. Next update is at the very least twice as good
Bleach Mod
may be sharks will be added?!

Why you didnt add this strange flying fish to your mod yet? (Fish on your avatar)
sorry if I have some mistakes.
What about next update?
