I love watching Feed the Beast, and I love all of the factory mods inside the mod package. However, when I decided to play it for myself, I was confused and utterly lost. It's way too complicated for me! Watching it is one thing, but playing it is another! That is why I am here today to reveal a WIP mod: Mine Industry.
This mod's intent is to automate your farms, mining, and building experience without completely rewriting the whole gameplay. The code in this mod is simple, clean, and easy to understand. Why? Because this mod is open-source! You can follow it's development here. If you have any changes you would like to make, simply make a branch of my repository and request a pull. More than likely, I will accept the pull request.
Items/Blocks that I have implemented so far:
Conveyor Belts - there are wooden, stone, iron, gold, and diamond ones. Wooden Conveyor Belts can only place items in chests and chest minecarts. Stone Conveyor Belts can place items in chests, chest minecarts, furnaces, and brewing stands. Iron Conveyor Belts can place items like the Wooden and Stone, but they can also fill bottles and buckets if there is water or lava nearby. Gold does everything that the previous Conveyor Belts can except that they can have a speed boost when the belt is powered. Diamond Conveyor Belts can sort items (I'm still working on that).
Auto-Crafting Table - make a recipe in the GUI for this block and any items that will fulfill the recipe in nearby chests will be auto-crafted and placed back into the chests.
Item Elevators - send items upward with these blocks.
Block Movers - works sort of like a Conveyor Belt except that it moves blocks! Place a block on top of this block and power it, and the block will move. (The block texture has arrows to indicate the direction of movement.)
Oven - items that collide with this block are automatically smelted using the furnace recipes and placed into nearby chests.
Block Crusher - if the Block Crusher is powered and a block is placed beneath it, it is smashed. The only blocks that it cannot destroy are obsidian and bedrock, however another tier may be introduced to break the obsidian blocks. All items created by the destruction of the block are placed into nearby chests.
Electric Fence - protect your land with these bad boys. Sends mobs flying backwards if they touch the fence. This fence makes Electric Creepers, and Zombie Pigmen should a pig dare to enter your lair.
Grinder - certain items that collide with this block turn into other items: turns gravel to flint, wheat to flour, and sugar cane to sugar. More recipes need to be added. (I need suggestions!)
Flour - the result of wheat in a grinder, this can be smelted to make bread.
Items/Blocks that are planned to be implemented:
Drill Block - drills a hole to level six. Places all items mined into nearby chests.
Incinerator - have some leftover junk? Place any item in this block GUI and XP will be rewarded to the player. (XP levels are proportional to the type of item placed into the Incinerator.
Recyclable Materials - have some leftover junk you want to put to good use? Use this to make Compacted Soil and Compacted Stone.
Compacted Soil/Stone - works great for farming and building. (Uses being determined.)
Gold Panning - build a pan (different tiers) and use them to pan for gold nuggets!
Temporary Torches - walk a distance of 100 blocks away from this torch, and the torch will break and be placed into your inventory.
Tree Loggers - plants (if there are saplings in its GUI), bonemeals (if there is any in its GUI), and harvests sapling automatically. Places harvested items into nearby chests.
Tunnelers - digs a 3 x 3 hole determined by the direction on placement. Places mined items in nearby chests.
Carbon Fiber - a material used to craft better armor. Maybe other future uses.
Concrete - place a bucket of concrete down and let it solidify into a stronger, sturdier material.
Lampposts - aesthetically pleasing.
Water Boiler - burns coal to heat water to cook foods. Other uses being determined.
Leaf Blower - destroy those pesky leaves!!
Fluorescent Lights - aesthetically pleasing - may have an impact on the speed of plant growth.
Barbed Wire - another land defense block. Ouch! Don't step on it!
Hydroponic Blocks - handy little farmers. Plants, grows, and harvests wheat, carrots, and potatoes automatically.
Smoke Stacks - hook these up to a Furnace, Oven, or Incinerator for a cool smoking "chimney" effect.
Bridge Generator - big expanse of water? No problem. Place building materials in its GUI and it'll build a bridge out of them. (Will have a certain max distance.)
Haystacks - better storage for wheat. May have some other implementation.
Coffee Beans/Coffee - how else are you supposed to stay awake maintaining your factory?
Freezers - turns buckets of water and snowballs into ice over a certain amount of time.
Goggles - better underwater vision (I also have a cool surprise planned).
Entity Sensors - detects any entity that passes in front of it and sends a redstone pulse.
Calendar Block - right click to have the chat console tell you the time and date of your location in the world.
Crates - place lots of a certain item in these and then have the ability to break them and place them somewhere else.
Power Tools - I bet you can determine what these will do. There will be different tiers to these items.
And that's about it! Got any ideas? Be sure to post them. I don't know long this mod will take until completion, but I am working diligently. I will post pictures as soon as my textures are finalized. The mod source code will be posted soon. Ciao!
What about machines and a power system ( i play with BC and its addons alot along with some other mods to help with my factory) crates r a good idea but maby that can be the tier 1 of your storage system and maby add in a simple to use computer system to control those more advanced machines( one that is easier to code then CC computers).
Might I suggest two more Grinder uses: The first is the ever popular Grind wood into wood pulp for paper. The second would be to grind zombie flesh into leather.
