Welcome to Astrocraft!
This thread is a WIP.
Unfortunately, the mod is still in it's roots. We haven't really actually started yet. PLEASE NOTE:This mod is completely different from InfiniteX's GalaxyCraft. They both have completely different aspects and are only similar in theme. Neither is or is meant to be a rip-off of one another.
No art for the mod has been made yet. As a notice: We are looking for coders! This is a fairly complex mod, including a lot of gravity physics and teleportation, we can use as many coders as we can. As I said, if I learn how, I will help code this mod myself. For now, I'm just doing textures and ideas.
Now, let's get onto what this mod will have to offer.
Space Exploration! In order to find celestial objects and space debree, you must build a spaceship and a spacesuit. In order to build a space ship, you must do this: X = Diamond, O = Obsidian, E = Ender Eye, T = Iron Block, F = Firework. X O X T E T T F T
Tin is a new ore you can find randomly within the world. It isn't used for any tools. It can only make space suits. It is between the rarity of Iron and Coal.
In order to make a space suit, you must make clothing how you usually do, but out of tin, except for the helmet, where you add glass like this:
G = Glass, T = Wool, O = Nothing
W W W
W G W
O O O
When you are fully prepared, first you must find some asteroids that have fallen to earth and collect fuel from inside of them. That is how you run your ship. One block you collect of asteroid fuel, equals five minutes of space travel. Your space suit does have an oxygen meter, but we'll get into that later.
When traveling into outer space, you can drive your rocket ship around anywhere you like! It is just a void of nothingness. However, there are galaxies (they seem far away, but when you get within a certain distance from them, you will enter the galaxy) around the empty void. If you approach one, you will be brought into the galaxy and you may start exploring planetary systems and other celestial objects.
Stars and Planets! You can find Stars quite commonly around galaxies. Galaxies, on the inside, are only a few thousand blocks across. Planets may be only 5 blocks in radius, to 100 blocks! The star of the planetary system will always be three times as big as the smallest planet in the system. The biggest planet will be twice as big as the smallest planet. The smallest planet will always be a rock planet, the largest a gas planet. Whenever you find a star, you'll find planets! Whenever you find a planet, you'll find a star and some other neighbor planets!
Gravity!Oh boy this will be good. Planets can have gravity that can let you even jump back up into the atmosphere, other planets have gravity that it will take you a couple of minutes to escape the atmosphere! The gravitational pull of a planet is fairly close, you have to approach a planet in order to get pulled in. But stars have a much larger gravitational field, so try not to get to close, or it could suck you in and burn you to nothing!
Protective Spacesuits! Yes, I already have went over the space suits, but there is another kind! A diamond space suit! Basically you do the same thing except you replace the wool with diamond. There is a much easier way to get diamond in outer space, but it is artificial diamond and can only be used to make the diamond space suits. But we'll get more into that later. With a protective space suit, you can walk on stars as if they are planets! Also, you have a much larger oxygen tank! Watch out, though, because your tank decreases much, much more quickly if you are on a star!
Constellations! If you visit three stars or more, you can set up a Constellation Tracker, which can connect stars on your Space Map! The Space Map is basically a 3D version of your map. In order to make it, you use the same crafting recipe as a map, but with Stardust instead. What is Stardust? We'll get into that in a second. You craft a Constellation Tracker like so: B = Beacon Block, N = Nether Star, X = Iron Ingot, O = Emerald X B X X N X O O O
Anyway, near black holes or supernovas, you can find stardust.
Black Holes And Wormholes! You might find yourself in a position, far away from any nearby star or planet. In this area, there are two main objects lurking around: Black Holes and Worm Holes. You may be getting sucked in by a Black Hole's force. Just stay calm. Either you'll die a painful death from a black hole, or it is a worm hole bringing you to another universe! If you get sucked into another universe via wormhole, you cannot return home, so try to find another wormhole and get back home! Black Holes will suck in any entity, so will Wormholes. Wormholes have more purplish edges, black holes are just pitch-black. If you see either one of these, you might want to get away as fast as you possibly can.
Supernovas and Nebulae! Though supernovae and nebulae are fairly distinct celestial objects, they don't have too many differences in this mod. Both are very beautiful, and both will kill you if you leave your ship while in one, because of how hot they are. Supernovae are more explosion-looking, while nebulae just look like nebulae. I guess. There are also novas, but they are very small supernovas and much smaller than even the average planet in a planetary system. Anyway, with the Diamond Spacesuit, you can leave your rocket ship, and if you get a space jar (crafted like a chest, but with glass, and there is one diamond in the middle), you can scoop up some space dust. The stardust is found laying around in the dust. Catch some of the space dust in bottle and get some stardust with it! Note that only supernovas have stardust. Nebulae just have space dust. Black holes have stardust near them, too, but not wormholes. If you want to get the stardust from a black hole, just shoot a gravitational arrow into the hole and it may spray out some stardust, no innuendo intended.
Gravitational Arrows, Iron Bows, and Laser Guns! Gravitational arrows are made the same way as arrows, except instead of a feather, it uses a firework. Making one gravitational arrow will give you 16, because they are so expensive. Iron Bows are made from a strange space iron. You cannot make them yourself. You have to get them from aliens on habitable planets. Laser Guns are another version of them. Slightly weaker, but they are much easier to aim and do not require ammo (although they do require reload time). Again, only aliens on habitable planets can carry them.
Aliens and Habitable Planets! Every planetary system will have one habitable planet. There, aliens can spawn. They can be any color of the rainbow, they can have the AI of a Creeper of of a Silverfish. They may look like actual aliens, they may just look like spiders. Some are friendly and hold purple alien flowers, some are hostile and hold Laser Guns or Iron Bows. It depends on how advanced an alien civilization is. Sometimes, there will only be alien caves, sometimes alien cities. Sometimes, aliens can trade you things, sometimes, they will hit you with wooden bats that they carved themselves. You can also find UFOs. There are three kinds: Green, Purple, and Red. Green UFOs are friendly and will swoop by and give you fuel. Purple UFOs are neutral and can be tamed with Iron Ingots. They will fight for you, and you can hop onto the UFO in case you lose your ship for a ride home. Red UFOs are hostile and will neutralize anything that comes their way. Aliens can come out of their UFOs, but they will be completely helpless. You can make a tamed alien leave their UFO and them give them an Iron Bow or a Laser Gun. Oh, and did I mention? You can find aliens in spacesuits on uninhabitable planets, too. Taking off your spacesuit on a habitable planet is fine. It will also refill your oxygen tank!
Asteroids and Comets! These are where you get most of your materials. On comets, you need a Diamond Spacesuit to walk on. Hopping on one will bring you to another galaxy. Asteroids are a bit more stable, and if you mine in one, you might find a chest left behind by an unknown space traveler! They can contain stardust, glowstone dust, asteroid diamonds (which can only be used to make a Diamond Spacesuit), and fuel/oxygen.
Clusters and Superclusters! They are basically the biomes of the universe. Superclusters are much bigger than clusters. If you have Large Biomes on, you will get superclusters. If you have Superflat or Normal, you will get clusters. The difference between different superclusters are that they have different colored galaxies, and spawn rates may also be different. Who knows?
Getting Back Home? Everyone knows that ship that all NASA ships have a "teleport back home" button. So, just press the hotkey (default is going to be ~) to warp back home!
Credits! We need some more contributors to the mod, so if you want to help code, come up with ideas, or texture, then send me a PM or post on the thread!
Downloads! None yet. We haven't started on the mod, as you may be able to see. We've only gotten in some ideas.
Snapshots and Videos! Haven't started, no snapshots are available. When we do get started, I'll put the crafting recipes here, too!

In case you haven't heard... We are looking for coders, artists, and creative thinkers for this mod! Send me a PM if you want to be a coder/artist/thinker for AstroCraft!
If someone can make a banner for this mod, that would be amazing. Your work will be put up here and put in the credits.
Excuse me for double-posting, but the mod will hopefully begin to be put into progress soon enough! Shroomiams will most likely be working as our first coder, however, we still need more coders! Send me a PM if you know how to code and are interested in taking part in this project!
Sounds like this mod could be good, I believe it could use a bit more thought though into some of the aspects of the mod (Planets for example, will planets be small? Cubic? Or will they be seperate dimensions?
I ask this as I'm very very interested in making a space mod for Minecraft, I'm actually thinking of doing a complete overhaul of Minecraft for it.. But seeing as you're in need of coders I could possibly help out. I don't know just how often I'd be available as I'm quite busy but I'm fairly experienced in Java.. I guess I could come in from time to time and help out with certain things - I'm also alright at doing textures/logos. PM me if you're interested, and perhaps with a brief idea of what you'd like done first.
While I'm still waiting for authentication from the original AstroCraft mod, we have our first official coworker! May be just a thinker, but, help is help.
Hello. I allready were waiting for mod such as this for like 2 years. I love your idea so much. And i have few questions/suggestions.
Questions:
Will it be compatible with industrialcraft? ( By this i mean EU, eu machines, generators etc, )
What kind of planets are you talking about? ( Dimensions, or physical spheres/cubes, which exists in full 3d world? ),
[By full 3d world i mean infinite X, Y, Z axis... or maybe extended?]
Will be there a bigger usage of resources? ( I am tired of making all sorts of machines, and be left by chests of unused stacks of iron )
Do you need an idea giver? ( Yes i like space themes )
Ship. Will it be made out of blocks, and it actually fly? ( Like zeppelin mod ? ) or it will be just entity, which cannot be customized ( By entity i mean a thing like minecart, or trains in traincraft? )
It will most likely be compatible with most Forge mods.
I'm not sure about the planets yet.
Potentially.
Sure, I can go for another thinker! I'm mostly looking for coders at the moment, but I'll send you a PM.
Yes, it can be customized and you do drive around in it and fly; However, it will be an entity made in a crafting grid. So half-and-half, kinda.
ok, so, as a thinker, i have thought of something. For the black holes. In reality, a black hole will slow down time around it, i think if you could make it so that, if you get too close to the black hole, you could dramatically slow down the space ship and make it so that you have to use all of your fuel to get away.
