The Meaning of Life, the Universe, and Everything.
Hey Max, I don't want to be a downer or anything, but LBL is kinda underselling the "difficult to update" thing here. The transition of 1.7.10 to 1.8+ is legendarily difficult. Many mods got abandoned at 1.7.10, some are still being update exclusively for 1.7.10 to this day. I think a few mod makers claimed it was easier to just redo the mod from scratch, which I definitely think is true for your case. You would basically have to learn how to mod for 1.7.10, and whatever new version you pick simultaneously.
My suggestion would be to use LBL's source code as a loose reference, and redo the code from scratch. Having all the assets and stuff is also hugely helpful. I think it's a good oppurtunity to change a few things anyways, such as progression which was really annoying in this mod.
Good luck! I'm looking forward to playing a more current bleach mod. I would offer to help, but sadly I have no experience with java and have my own projects to focus on.
So far the plan is to try to maybe update some of the files he left me (features not MC version), and then eventually have one of my team members rewrite it in a future version while I do this, since I don't really have enough experience to start from scratch myself. Eventually we might solely switch to 1.12.2 or decide to stay with 1.7.10 but continue to update the mod, but I am unsure.
It's in the plan, I just need to get a working version first. I want to either fix LBL's errors, or have remade a decent bit of it first, but I want it to be known that anybody who thinks they can be helpful in coding is greatly appreciated. I am new to modding, so I won't be able to produce updates to this mod by myself for some time, especially with my work schedule, but with a team we can accomplish a lot more. I have heard that rumors are somehow aleady going around saying I've given up lol. Couldn't be further from the truth. I am overwhelmed, but I am not going to quit. This mod has so much potential, so I refuse to let it be abandoned again. If any coders want to join the modding team, hit me up on discord.
Take your time and learn your Java programming. Once you have a working/updated version you can start a new thread here in the forums and publish the mod at Curseforge along with opening a github.
That way the mod will get much more exposure, and you may get more volunteers and even some 3D artists/animators to create new stuff from the manga. This thread has just been abandoned for too long so the people who were once interested, have moved on or lost all hope.
I wouldn't mind if you never adapt the Quincy's ark into the mod, for me it would be more than enough to adapt the Gotei 13 and Aizen ark. Imagine some of the Captain's abilities coded into minecraft! I imagine some of them would be too abstract to implement them but one can hope.
Do not feel too pressured, take this as a hobby or else you can risk a burnout.
Lastly, keep in mind that the manga has ended, and many fans did not liked how it ended at all, included me. Sadly this lead many people to lose interest in anything Bleach related(not me though, I am still fond of most of Tite Kubo's work)
